    Get PDF
The increasing vocalization by both supporters and opponents of homosexual rights has launched the topic into the spotlight, reenergizing a vibrant discussion that personally affects millions of Americans and which will determine the direction in which U.S. national policy will develop. This essay serves as a continuation of this discussion, using the Matthew Shepherd Hate crime, which occurred in October of 1998, as a focal point around which a detailed analysis of homophobia and masculinity in American culture will emerge

No space Left for Intravenous thrombolysis in acute stroke

Recent successful clinical trials of endovascular thrombectomy for large artery ischaemic stroke have established the value of this treatment modality as an adjunct to intravenous thrombolysis, not as an alternative: thrombectomy delivery was undertaken in the context of highly efficient networks for acute thrombolysis delivery and the great majority of patients received IV thrombolytic drug treatment. Even for the minority of acute stroke patients for whom thrombectomy is potentially relevant, access will be limited by geography and service infrastructure. Developments in intravenous thrombolysis in the near future will likely produce safer and more effective intravenous treatments. Intravenous thrombolysis will remain the first line of treatment for the great majority of acute stroke patients

Innovations in Analyzing Manuscript Images and Using them in Digital Scholarly Publications

Evellum began developing software for the digital analysis and presentation of medieval manuscripts nearly fifteen year ago, when there were very few design and delivery options available to programmers. In the early years, it was not apparent how it would be best to deliver such products nor exactly how they would function and be used, and the question of longevity plagued us. Today there is the TEI to help standardize the mark-up of text and to offer a greater guarantee of longevity than was previously possible, and internet browsers are capable of facilitating the delivery of programmes that integrate text, image and video. Two products designed by Evellum are described here, with comments on the pedagogical issues that have helped determine their shape

“Organizational scholars and practitioners alike have argued that if organizations are to flourish in the volatile global environment and meet the concomitant challenges of geographic dispersion, electronic collaboration, and cultural diversity, they must become more knowledge intensive, decentralized, participative, adaptive, flexible, efficient and responsive to rapid change.“ Based on research, I have found that this can be achieved through methods of increasing employee participation and empowering more employees to make decisions
