Numerical modelling and in-situ experiment for self-sealing of the induced fracture network of drift into the Callovo-Oxfordian claystone during a hydration process
The excavation damage zone surrounding an underground tunnel/gallery, and in particular its evolution, is being studied for the performance assessment of a radioactive waste underground repository. This paper focuses on numerical analysis of the self-sealing of the damaged zone based on an in-situ CDZ experiment for exploring the self-sealing of excavation damage zone during a hydration process. A plastic damage model is employed to describe the mechanical behaviour of Callovo-Oxfordian claystone (COx), and an added deformation model coupled with the standard Biot's model to simulate the significant deformation of COx claystone during the change of water content. Crack estimation and permeability evaluation of unsaturated fractured COx claystone are carried out through a post-processing method based on the fracture energy regularization and the cubic law, respectively. The validation of the proposed model is performed by numerical simulation of: (1) COx claystone swelling and triaxial compression tests, (2) self-sealing of fractured COx claystone samples during hydration process, (3) self-sealing of the damaged zone during a hydration process. Comparisons between the numerical and experimental results demonstrate the reliability of the proposed model to accurately describe the self-sealing of the fractured COx claystone, and the global water permeability reduction in hydration illustrates the accomplishment of the self-sealing of damaged zone

QCD and QED Corrections to Higgs Boson Production in Charged Current Scattering
First order QCD and leading QED corrections to Higgs boson production in the
channel are calculated for the
kinematical conditions at LEP LHC (\sqrt{s} = 1360 \GeV) and the
interesting mass range 80 < M_H < 150 \GeV. In the DIS scheme the QCD
corrections (not including the corrections to the branching ratio, which are
well-known) are found to be about 1\% for the total cross section and
to for the observable cross section as defined by appropriate cuts. The
latter results depend on the definition of these cuts. The QED corrections

New methods of evaluation of the flavour composition in annihilation by double hemisphere tagging at LEP/SLC energies
Two new methods are proposed to extract the flavour contents of the events produced at LEP/SLC, together with the classification matrix of a tagging by hemispheres. By utilising the tagging obtained in both hemispheres, the efficiencies, backgrounds and flavour compositions are directly obtained by fitting the data. A minimal dependence on modelling and a consistent treatment of systematic errors are achieved by applying these methods. The choice of the tagging algorithm is irrelevant in the methods, provided that similar efficiencies are reached. As an example, a multivariate analysis technique combining the tracking information given by a microvertex detector has been applied to extract the Z → b overlineb branching ratio using a standard simulation of a LEP/SLC experiment
An SU(3) model for octet baryon and meson fragmentation
The production of the octet of baryons and mesons in e^+ e^- collisions is
analysed, based on considerations of SU(3) symmetry and a simple model for
SU(3) symmetry breaking in fragmentation functions. All fragmentation
functions, D_q^h(x, Q^2), describing the fragmentation of quarks into a member
of the baryon octet (and similarly for fragmentation into members of the meson
octet) are expressed in terms of three SU(3) symmetric functions, \alpha(x,
Q^2), \beta(x, Q^2), and \gamma(x, Q^2). With the introduction of an SU(3)
breaking parameter, \lambda, the model is successful in describing
hadroproduction data at the Z pole. The fragmentation functions are then
evolved using leading order evolution equations and good fits to currently
available data at 34 GeV and at 161 GeV are obtained.Comment: 24 pages LaTeX file including 11 postscript figure file
AKK Update: Improvements from New Theoretical Input and Experimental Data
We perform a number of improvements to the previous AKK extraction of
fragmentation functions for , , , and
particles at next-to-leading order. Inclusive hadron
production measurements from reactions at BRAHMS, CDF, PHENIX and
STAR are added to the data sample. We use the charge-sign asymmetry of the
produced hadrons in reactions to constrain the valence quark
fragmentations. Data from reactions in regions of smaller and
lower are added. Hadron mass effects are treated for all observables
and, for each particle, the hadron mass used for the description of the reaction is fitted. The baryons' fitted masses are found to be only around
1% above their true masses, while the values of the mesons' fitted masses have
the correct order of magnitude. Large resummation is applied in the
coefficient functions of the reactions, and also in the evolution of
the fragmentation functions, which in most cases results in a significant
reduction of the minimized . To further exploit the data, all published
normalization errors are incorporated via a correlation matrix
Measurement of the branching fraction and CP content for the decay B(0) -> D(*+)D(*-)

Copyright @ 2002 APS.We report a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0→D*+D*- and of the CP-odd component of its final state using the BABAR detector. With data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.4 fb-1 collected at the Υ(4S) resonance during 1999–2000, we have reconstructed 38 candidate signal events in the mode B0→D*+D*- with an estimated background of 6.2±0.5 events. From these events, we determine the branching fraction to be B(B0→D*+D*-)=[8.3±1.6(stat)±1.2(syst)]×10-4.
