    An Economic Evaluation of Investment on Aonla (Emblica officinalis G.) in Gujarat

    The economic viability of aonla plantation in Gujarat has been studied through a sample of 120 aonla growers spread over 12 selected villages of the Kheda and Anand districts for the agricultural year 2003-04. It has been found that establishment of aonla orchard involves high investment, but the annual net returns are also quite high, after the third year of plantation. The values of economic parameters, viz. NPV, BCR, IRR and PBP have been found to be Rs 652652, 5.25, 65.03 per cent and 55 months, respectively at 10 per cent discount rate. Under varying cost and return situations, values of all these feasibility parameters have satisfied the acceptance rules for the investment proposition. It has confirmed the economic viability, stability and certainty of investment on aonla orchard.     In Ayurveda, all types of skin diseases are described under one umbrella term of Kushtha. Acharyas have described that all Kushthas have Tridosha involvement but the type of Kushtha depends on the predominance of particular Doshas. Eka Kushtha is compared with psoriasis due to its maximum resemblance. Psoriasis is a long-lasting autoimmune disease characterized by patches of abnormal skin. These skin patches are typically red, itchy, and scaly. They may vary in severity from small and localized to extensive, large and spread in complete body. It typically presents with red patches and white scales on the top. Areas of the body most commonly affected are the back of the forearms, shins, around the navel, and the scalp. Psoriasis is generally thought to be a genetic disease which is triggered by environmental factors. Other factors such as local trauma, general illness and stress are also involved. In modern medicine, the cure of this disease is out of question as the cause is unknown. Ayurveda propounds a holistic treatment approach for psoriasis. As per Ayurvedic view point Vata, Pitta and Kapha vitiation are the major contributing pathological factors in the body. The line of treatment of skin diseases are Shodhana and Shamana therapy. Virechana Karma (purgation therapy) followed by internal medications are considered as the best line of management for skin disorders.     EFFECT OF MUSTAKADI VATI IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GRAHANI DOSHA IN CHILDREN – A CASE STUDY

    BACKGROUND: Grahani is the Adhishthana of Agni and Agni Dushti is the main reason of the disease. The disease Grahani Dosha is very commonly seen in present pediatric practice and it aggravates to form a critical condition if the proper care is not taken. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A 8-years-old male patient of Grahani Dosha with complaints of defecation just after taking meal, Bowel frequency 3-4 times/day, irregular bowel habit, loss of appetite, generalized weakness, occasional pain in abdomen, slow weight gain for 5-6 months was treated by Mustakadi Vati in three divided doses of 10 Vati per day after meal for 8 weeks with SukhoshnaJala. RESULT: Marked improvement was found after 8 weeks of treatment i.e., bowel frequency reduced to 1 time/day, no weakness, abdominal pain relieved, 2 kg body weight gained. Hematological parameters along with routine and microscopic investigations of stool and urine were done before and after the treatment, all were found normal. Mala Parikshana was done before treatment which showed sinking of stool in water and foul smell and after 8 weeks of treatment again Mala Parikshana was done where floating of stool in water and no foul smell were found. CONCLUSION: This case study has shown that Mustakadi Vati is effective in improving the symptoms of Grahani Dosha. Marked improvements were found in all the symptoms of Grahani Dosha in Children

    Barosinusitis: comprehensive review and proposed new classification system

    Background: Barosinusitis, or sinus barotrauma, may arise from changes in ambient pressure that are not compensated by force equalization mechanisms within the paranasal sinuses. Barosinusitis is most commonly seen with barometric changes during flight or diving. Understanding and better classifying the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and management of barosinusitis are essential to improve patient care. Objectives: To perform a comprehensive review of the available literature regarding sinus barotrauma. Methods: A comprehensive literature search that used the terms "barosinusitis," "sinus barotrauma," and "aerosinusitis" was conducted, and all identified titles were reviewed for relevance to the upper airway and paranasal sinuses. All case reports, series, and review articles that were identified from this search were included. Selected cases of sinus barotrauma from our institution were included to illustrate classic signs and symptoms. Results: Fifty-one articles were identified as specifically relevant to, or referencing, barosinusitis and were incorporated into this review. The majority of articles focused on barosinusitis in the context of a single specific etiology rather than independent of etiology. From analysis of all the publications combined with clinical experience, we proposed that barosinusitis seemed to fall within three distinct subtypes: (1) acute, isolated barosinusitis; (2) recurrent acute barosinusitis; and (3) chronic barosinusitis. We introduced this terminology and suggested independent treatment recommendations for each subtype. Conclusion: Barosinusitis is a common but potentially overlooked condition that is primed by shifts in the ambient pressure within the paranasal sinuses. The pathophysiology of barosinusitis has disparate causes, which likely contribute to its misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis. Available literature compelled our proposed modifications to existing classification schemes, which may allow for improved awareness and management strategies for barosinusitis.Reza Vaezeafshar, Alkis J.     Utilizing a biology-driven approach to map the exposome in health and disease:An essential investment to drive the next generation of environmental discovery

    BACKGROUND: Recent developments in technologies have offered opportunities to measure the exposome with unprecedented accuracy and scale. However, because most investigations have targeted only a few exposures at a time, it is hypothesized that the majority of the environmental determinants of chronic diseases remain unknown. OBJECTIVES: We describe a functional exposome concept and explain how it can leverage existing bioassays and high-resolution mass spectrometry for exploratory study. We discuss how such an approach can address well-known barriers to interpret exposures and present a vision of next-generation exposomics. DISCUSSION: The exposome is vast. Instead of trying to capture all exposures, we can reduce the complexity by measuring the functional exposome— the totality of the biologically active exposures relevant to disease development—through coupling biochemical receptor-binding assays with affinity purification–mass spectrometry. We claim the idea of capturing exposures with functional biomolecules opens new opportunities to solve critical problems in exposomics, including low-dose detection, unknown annotations, and complex mixtures of exposures. Although novel, biology-based measurement can make use of the existing data processing and bioinformatics pipelines. The functional exposome concept also complements conven-tional targeted and untargeted approaches for understanding exposure-disease relationships. CONCLUSIONS: Although measurement technology has advanced, critical technological, analytical, and inferential barriers impede the detection of many environmental exposures relevant to chronic-disease etiology.     Measurement of the Bs0→J/ψKS0B_s^0\to J/\psi K_S^0 branching fraction

    The Bs0→J/ψKS0B_s^0\to J/\psi K_S^0 branching fraction is measured in a data sample corresponding to 0.41fb−1fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector at the LHC. This channel is sensitive to the penguin contributions affecting the sin2ÎČ\beta measurement from B0→J/ψKS0B^0\to J/\psi K_S^0 The time-integrated branching fraction is measured to be BF(Bs0→J/ψKS0)=(1.83±0.28)×10−5BF(B_s^0\to J/\psi K_S^0)=(1.83\pm0.28)\times10^{-5}. This is the most precise measurement to date

    Measurement of the CP-violating phase \phi s in Bs->J/\psi\pi+\pi- decays

    Measurement of the mixing-induced CP-violating phase phi_s in Bs decays is of prime importance in probing new physics. Here 7421 +/- 105 signal events from the dominantly CP-odd final state J/\psi pi+ pi- are selected in 1/fb of pp collision data collected at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV with the LHCb detector. A time-dependent fit to the data yields a value of phi_s=-0.019^{+0.173+0.004}_{-0.174-0.003} rad, consistent with the Standard Model expectation.     Model-independent search for CP violation in D0→K−K+π−π+ and D0→π−π+π+π− decays

    A search for CP violation in the phase-space structures of D0 and View the MathML source decays to the final states K−K+π−π+ and π−π+π+π− is presented. The search is carried out with a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 collected in 2011 by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. For the K−K+π−π+ final state, the four-body phase space is divided into 32 bins, each bin with approximately 1800 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 9.1%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 6.5% observed. The phase space of the π−π+π+π− final state is partitioned into 128 bins, each bin with approximately 2500 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 41%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 5.5% observed. All results are consistent with the hypothesis of no CP violation at the current sensitivity
