    La gestión directiva, la autoridad pedagógica y las experiencias alternativas en tiempos de pandemia. Una investigación en curso

    En esta ponencia, se comparten algunos avances en lo relativo a aspectos teóricos y metodológicossurgidos en el marco de una investigación que hace foco en las problemáticas derivadas de la gestacióne implementación de experiencias alternativas en escuelas secundarias de Córdoba en vinculación conel gobierno y la gestión directiva. En el momento en que se pensó el proyecto y el trabajo deinvestigación no estábamos en tiempos de pandemia. Esta nueva circunstancia excepcional nos obligóa revisar algunas consideraciones en torno a las categorías teóricas en tanto las experienciasalternativas al formato moderno de escolaridad ya no eran solo devenidas de proyectos pedagógicos,sino forzadas por la virtualización imperiosa que la emergencia sanitaria impuso al sistema educativopara poder sostener la continuidad pedagógica. En este trabajo, abordaremos las preguntas deinvestigación iniciales, que refieren principalmente a las características que asume el ejercicio de laautoridad pedagógica desde la gestión directiva ante la implementación de una experiencia alternativaen la escuela secundaria u otras instituciones educativas que trabajan con jóvenes. Los interroganteshoy se tensionan ante lo acontecido desde las medidas de aislamiento social preventivo y obligatorio(ASPO) y distanciamiento social preventivo y obligatorio (DISPO), por lo que venimos trabajando enuna redefinición del mismo proceso de investigación.     Detection of encrypted cryptomining malware connections with machine and deep learning

    Nowadays, malware has become an epidemic problem. Among the attacks exploiting the computer resources of victims, one that has become usual is related to the massive amounts of computational resources needed for digital currency cryptomining. Cybercriminals steal computer resources from victims, associating these resources to the crypto-currency mining pools they benefit from. This research work focuses on offering a solution for detecting such abusive cryptomining activity, just by means of passive network monitoring. To this end, we identify a new set of highly relevant network flow features to be used jointly with a rich set of machine and deep-learning models for real-time cryptomining flow detection. We deployed a complex and realistic cryptomining scenario for training and testing machine and deep learning models, in which clients interact with real servers across the Internet and use encrypted connections. A complete set of experiments were carried out to demonstrate that, using a combination of these highly informative features with complex machine learning models, cryptomining attacks can be detected on the wire with telco-grade precision and accuracy, even if the traffic is encrypted

    Subclinical Atherosclerosis Burden by 3D Ultrasound in Mid-Life: The PESA Study

    BACKGROUND: Detection of subclinical atherosclerosis improves risk prediction beyond cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs) and risk scores, but quantification of plaque burden may improve it further. Novel 3-dimensional vascular ultrasound (3DVUS) provides accurate volumetric quantification of plaque burden. OBJECTIVES: The authors evaluated associations between 3DVUS-based plaque burden and CVRFs and explored potential added value over simple plaque detection. METHODS: The authors included 3,860 (92.2%) PESA (Progression of Early Subclinical Atherosclerosis) study participants (age 45.8 ± 4.3 years; 63% men). Bilateral carotid and femoral territories were explored by 3DVUS to determine the number of plaques and territories affected, and to quantify global plaque burden defined as the sum of all plaque volumes. Linear regression and proportional odds models were used to evaluate associations of plaque burden with CVRFs and estimated 10-year cardiovascular risk. RESULTS: Plaque burden was higher in men (63.4 mm3 [interquartile range (IQR): 23.8 to 144.8 mm3] vs. 25.7 mm3 [IQR: 11.5 to 61.6 mm3] in women; p < 0.001), in the femoral territory (64 mm3 [IQR: 27.6 to 140.5 mm3] vs. 23.1 mm3 [IQR: 9.9 to 48.7 mm3] in the carotid territory; p < 0.001), and with increasing age (p < 0.001). Age, sex, smoking, and dyslipidemia were more strongly associated with femoral than with carotid disease burden, whereas hypertension and diabetes showed no territorial differences. Plaque burden was directly associated with estimated cardiovascular risk independently of the number of plaques or territories affected (p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: 3DVUS quantifies higher plaque burden in men, in the femoral territory, and with increasing age during midlife. Plaque burden correlates strongly with CVRFs, especially at the femoral level, and reflects estimated cardiovascular risk more closely than plaque detection alone.     No Place Like Home: Examining a Bilingual-Bicultural, Self-Run Substance Abuse Recovery Home for Latinos

    Latinos often do not seek substance abuse services, and this might be correlated to the lack of culturally-modified substance abuse treatment approaches. Oxford House is the largest self-help residential recovery program in the U.S., yet few Latinos are among their current residents. In an effort to change this, bilingual-bicultural recovery homes were recently developed for Latinos. This article describes the process in opening these bilingual-bicultural houses and how sociocultural factors such as the family, simpatía, and gender roles impacted the living environment of these houses. In addition, language is highlighted as a key factor to the comfort and success of Latinos living in Oxford Houses. Based on these experiences, the article addresses several obstacles/barriers that impacted this process and possible feasible solutions to these challenges. One challenge is the Latino family system. While this may provide a supportive, cost-effective option for some; it can also perpetuate a cycle of codependence and substance abuse

    DESARROLLO MULTIDISCIPLINARIO EN INVESTIGACIÓN Y DOCENCIA DEL CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO UAEM VALLE DE MÉXICOLa Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México ha evolucionado a través de sus 188 años de historia, dedicada a la educación, la investigación, la cultura y el deporte, como sus grandes ejes rectores, formadora de hombres y mujeres con un alto sentido humanista y ético, contribuyendo a lograr nuevas y mejores formas de existencia y convivencia social. Durante el proceso de desconcentración de la UAEM, se crearon las Unidades Académicas y Centros Universitarios para brindar el servicio de educación a más jóvenes en todo el Estado de México, este Centro Universitario fue uno de los primeros y a sus veinte años de existencia se está consolidando como uno de los mejores. Es en los últimos años que se ha venido impulsando la investigación al contar con cuerpos académicos, en formación y en consolidación, con infraestructura de primera tanto en equipo como en laboratorios especializados, con profesores de tiempo completo que participan en congresos, seminarios y presentan publicaciones en revistas indexadas. Por ello para celebrar esos veinte años de existencia de esta honorable institución, se planeó la compilación de esta obra que es parte del quehacer multidisciplinario en investigación y docencia como parte del Plan de Desarrollo 2013-2017, de esta administración. Esta obra reúne investigaciones tanto de profesores como de alumnos desde las diferentes ramas del saber en las que se inscriben sus siete licenciaturas, Actuaría, Administración, Contaduría, Derecho, Economía, Relaciones Económicas Internacionales e Informática Administrativa, tanto presencial como a distancia, así como sus tres ingenierías, Industrial, en Computación y Sistemas y Comunicaciones, así como gracias a la vinculación y colaboración académico – científica que se tiene con otras instituciones de educación superior a nivel nacional, como el Instituto Tecnológico de Orizaba, la Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Universidad Politécnica de Victoria, el Instituto Politécnico Nacional entre otras. En el capítulo 1 se abordan seis temáticas diferentes de vanguardia en el área de las Ingenierías, en los capítulos 2 y 3 se incluyen temas de interés y gran relevancia en materia de ciencias sociales, política y economía.     New Species in the Old World: Europe as a Frontier in Biodiversity Exploration, a Test Bed for 21st Century Taxonomy

    The number of described species on the planet is about 1.9 million, with ca. 17,000 new species described annually, mostly from the tropics. However, taxonomy is usually described as a science in crisis, lacking manpower and funding, a politically acknowledged problem known as the Taxonomic Impediment. Using data from the Fauna Europaea database and the Zoological Record, we show that contrary to general belief, developed and heavily-studied parts of the world are important reservoirs of unknown species. In Europe, new species of multicellular terrestrial and freshwater animals are being discovered and named at an unprecedented rate: since the 1950s, more than 770 new species are on average described each year from Europe, which add to the 125,000 terrestrial and freshwater multicellular species already known in this region. There is no sign of having reached a plateau that would allow for the assessment of the magnitude of European biodiversity. More remarkably, over 60% of these new species are described by non-professional taxonomists. Amateurs are recognized as an essential part of the workforce in ecology and astronomy, but the magnitude of non-professional taxonomist contributions to alpha-taxonomy has not been fully realized until now. Our results stress the importance of developing a system that better supports and guides this formidable workforce, as we seek to overcome the Taxonomic Impediment and speed up the process of describing the planetary biodiversity before it is too late

    Title and summary, also in English.El cáncer de mama es el tumor más frecuente en Europa. Según la Agencia Internacional de Investigación del Cáncer, en 2006 se diagnosticaron unos 429.900 casos nuevos de cáncer de mama en Europa, con una tasa estandarizada de incidencia de 110 casos por 100.000 mujeres. También es la localización más frecuente en mujeres españolas: supone casi la cuarta parte de los casos de cáncer femeninos, y su incidencia está aumentando entre un 2-3% anual. Entre las posibles causas de este incremento están los cambios en los patrones reproductivos y en los hábitos de vida y la introducción de la terapia hormonal sustitutiva. Nuestro país, con una tasa de incidencia estandarizada estimada de 93,6 casos por 100.000 mujeres-año para 2006, ocupa una posición intermedia entre los países de Europa occidental y los del este. Es también una importante causa de mortalidad femenina. En 2005 causó la muerte de 5.703 mujeres españolas, con una tasa de mortalidad estandarizada de 18,6 por 100.000 mujeres-año. Desde los años 90 la mortalidad por cáncer de mama está descendiendo debido al diagnóstico precoz por programas de cribado y a los avances terapéuticos. En España esta tendencia decreciente se observa a partir de 1993, con un descenso de un 2,4% anual.La supervivencia global en Europa a los 5 años es cercana al 79%, inferior a la observada en EEUU (90%), y ha aumentado en los últimos años. En España, se sitúa en un 83%, significativamente más alta que la media europea. Breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasm in Europe.     Detection of bacteriophage particles containing antibiotic resistance genes in the sputum of cystic fibrosis patients

    Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic disease in which the bacterial colonization of the lung is linked to an excessive inflammatory response that leads to respiratory failure. The microbiology of CF is complex. Staphylococcus aureus is the first bacterium to colonize the lungs in 30% of pediatric CF patients, and 80% of adult patients develop a chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, but other microorganisms can also be found. The use of antibiotics is essential to treat the disease, but antibiotic performance is compromised by resistance mechanisms. Among various mechanisms of transfer of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), the recently been reported bacteriophages are the least explored in clinical settings. To determine the role of phages in CF as mobile genetic elements (MGEs) carrying ARGs, we evaluated their presence in 71 CF patients. 71 sputum samples taken from these patients were screened for eight ARGs (blaTEM, blaCTX-M-1-group, blaCTX-M-9-group, blaOXA-48, blaVIM, mecA, qnrA, and qnrS) in the bacteriophage DNA fraction. The phages found were also purified and observed by electron microscopy. 32.4% of CF patients harbored ARGs in phage DNA. β-lactamase genes, particularly blaVIM and blaTEM, were the most prevalent and abundant, whereas mecA, qnrA, and qnrS were very rare. Siphoviridae phage particles capable of infecting P. aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae were detected in CF sputum. Phage particles harboring ARGs were found to be abundant in the lungs of both CF patients and healthy individuals and could contribute to the colonization of multiresistant strains
