Gauge coupling unification and light Exotica in String Theory
In this letter we consider the consequences for the LHC of light vector-like
exotica with fractional electric charge. It is shown that such states are found
in orbifold constructions of the heterotic string. Moreover, these exotica are
consistent with gauge coupling unification at one loop, even though they do not
come in complete multiplets of SU(5).Comment: 5 pages, no figure
AWARENESS LEVEL OF LEADER WOMEN FARMERS ABOUT ORGANIC LIVESTOCK
Intensive livestock animal production has been preferred in order to meet food requirements of increasing population since 1950’s. However, especially in baby foods, organic farming products are getting preferred because of any harmfull supplements in natural conditions. Organic farming is getting popular because of increasing demand for natural foods especially in baby foods and higher incomed peoples. At the same time, organic animal products are being preferred as a new trend. Lack of environmental pollutants, large scale of agricultural lands and the presence of native breed livestock animals provide the significant opportunities for the promotion of organic livestock in Turkey. However, Turkey has not met the demand for animal products produced as organic. Small scale livestock enterprise, low education level and inefficient producer organizations are lead to this results. In this study, awareness level of the leader women farmers who have higher education and leadership skills than the other women farmers on organic livestock animal production was determined
Low Energy Supersymmetry from the Heterotic Landscape
We study possible correlations between properties of the observable and
hidden sectors in heterotic string theory. Specifically, we analyze the case of
the Z6-II orbifold compactification which produces a significant number of
models with the spectrum of the supersymmetric standard model. We find that
requiring realistic features does affect the hidden sector such that hidden
sector gauge group factors SU(4) and SO(8) are favoured. In the context of
gaugino condensation, this implies low energy supersymmetry breaking.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures; to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Multicriteria sustainability evaluation of transport networks for selected European countries
As an essential economic activity, transportation has complex interactions with the environment and society. Since the concept of sustainable development has become one of the top priorities for nations, there has been a growing interest in evaluating the performance of transport systems with respect to sustainability issues. The main purpose of this study is to introduce a decision making framework to assess the sustainability of the transport networks in a multidimensional setting and a technique to identify non-compromise alternatives. We also propose an elucidation technique to identify according to which criteria a system needs to be improved and how much improvement is required to attain a certain level of sustainability. The proposed methods are applied to a set of selected European countries within a case study
How high is the inter-observer reproducibility in the LIRADS reporting system?
Purpose: To investigate the reproducibility of LIRADS v2014 and contribute to its widespread use in clinical practice. Material and methods: This retrospective, single-centre study was conducted between January 2010 and October 2015. A total of 132 patients who had dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/computed tomography (CT) images in the Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) with liver nodule were included in the study, 37 of whom had histopathology results. Five radiologists who participated in the study, interpreted liver nodules independently on different PACS stations according to the LIRADS reporting system and its main parameters. Results: We determined that level of inter-observer agreement in the LR-1, LR-5, and LR-5V categories was higher than in the LR-2, LR-3, and LR-4 categories (κ = 0.522, 0.442, and 0.600 in the LR-1, LR-5, and LR-5V categories, respectively; κ = 0.082, 0.298, and 0.143 in the LR-2, LR-3, and LR-4 categories, respectively). The parameter that we observed to have the highest level of inter-observer agreement was venous thrombus (κ = 0.600). Conclusions: Our study showed that LIRADS achieves an acceptable inter-observer reproducibility in terms of clinical practice although it is insufficient at intermediate risk levels. We think that the prevalence of its use will be further increased with training related to the subject and the assignment of numerical values that express the probability of malignancy for each category and including the ancillary features in the algorithm according to clearer rules
A High Throughput Lab-On-A-Chip System for Label Free Quantification of Breast Cancer Cells under Continuous Flow
This paper presents an LOC system combining microfluidic DEP channel with a CMOS image sensor for label and lens free detection and real-time counting of MCF-7 cells under continuous flow. Trapped and then released MCF-7 cells are accurately detected and counted under flow with a CMOS image sensor integrated underneath the DEP channel, for the first time in the literature. CMOS image sensor can capture 391 frames per second (fps) that allows detection of the released cells flowing through the channel with a flow rate up to 130 mu l/min (0.468 m/s). Therefore, the proposed system is able to detect the cells under high flow where conventional techniques for cell quantification such as fluorescent tagging become unusable. Detected cells are automatically counted with a computer program and the counting accuracy of the whole system is 95%. (C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd
Bi-objective optimization model for optimal placement of thyristor-controlled series compensator devices
Exposure to extreme weather conditions increases power systems’ vulnerability in front of high impact, low probability contingency occurrence. In the post-restructuring years, due to the increasing demand for energy, competition between electricity market players and increasing penetration of renewable resources, the provision of effective resiliency-based approaches has received more attention. In this paper, as the major contribution to current literature, a novel approach is proposed for resiliency improvement in a way that enables power system planners to manage several resilience metrics efficiently in a bi-objective optimization planning model simultaneously. For demonstration purposes, the proposed method is applied for optimal placement of the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC). Improvement of all considered resilience metrics regardless of their amount in a multi-criteria decision-making framework is novel in comparison to the other previous TCSC placement approaches. Without loss of generality, the developed resiliency improvement approach is applicable in any power system planning and operation problem. The simulation results on IEEE 30-bus and 118-bus test systems confirm the practicality and effectiveness of the developed approach. Simulation results show that by considering resilience metrics, the performance index, importance of curtailed consumers, congestion management cost, number of curtailed consumers, and amount of load loss are improved by 0.63%, 43.52%, 65.19%, 85.93%, and 85.94%, respectively
Multiagent cooperation for solving global optimization problems: an extendible framework with example cooperation strategies
This paper proposes the use of multiagent cooperation for solving global optimization problems through the introduction of a new multiagent environment, MANGO. The strength of the environment lays in itsflexible structure based on communicating software agents that attempt to solve a problem cooperatively. This structure allows the execution of a wide range of global optimization algorithms described as a set of interacting operations. At one extreme, MANGO welcomes an individual non-cooperating agent, which is basically the traditional way of solving a global optimization problem. At the other extreme, autonomous agents existing in the environment cooperate as they see fit during run time. We explain the development and communication tools provided in the environment as well as examples of agent realizations and cooperation scenarios. We also show how the multiagent structure is more effective than having a single nonlinear optimization algorithm with randomly selected initial points
Phase transitions for -adic Potts model on the Cayley tree of order three
In the present paper, we study a phase transition problem for the -state
-adic Potts model over the Cayley tree of order three. We consider a more
general notion of -adic Gibbs measure which depends on parameter
\rho\in\bq_p. Such a measure is called {\it generalized -adic quasi Gibbs
measure}. When equals to -adic exponent, then it coincides with the
-adic Gibbs measure. When , then it coincides with -adic quasi
Gibbs measure. Therefore, we investigate two regimes with respect to the value
of . Namely, in the first regime, one takes for some
J\in\bq_p, in the second one . In each regime, we first find
conditions for the existence of generalized -adic quasi Gibbs measures.
Furthermore, in the first regime, we establish the existence of the phase
transition under some conditions. In the second regime, when we prove the existence of a quasi phase transition. It turns out that
if and \sqrt{-3}\in\bq_p, then one finds the existence
of the strong phase transition.Comment: 27 page
Turner syndrome and associated problems in turkish children: A multicenter study
Objective: Turner syndrome (TS) is a chromosomal disorder caused by complete or partial X chromosome monosomy that manifests various clinical features depending on the karyotype and on the genetic background of affected girls. This study aimed to systematically investigate the key clinical features of TS in relationship to karyotype in a large pediatric Turkish patient population. Methods: Our retrospective study included 842 karyotype-proven TS patients aged 0-18 years who were evaluated in 35 different centers in Turkey in the years 2013-2014. Results: The most common karyotype was 45,X (50.7%), followed by 45,X/46,XX (10.8%), 46,X,i(Xq) (10.1%) and 45,X/46,X,i(Xq) (9.5%). Mean age at diagnosis was 10.2±4.4 years. The most common presenting complaints were short stature and delayed puberty. Among patients diagnosed before age one year, the ratio of karyotype 45,X was significantly higher than that of other karyotype groups. Cardiac defects (bicuspid aortic valve, coarctation of the aorta and aortic stenosi) were the most common congenital anomalies, occurring in 25% of the TS cases. This was followed by urinary system anomalies (horseshoe kidney, double collector duct system and renal rotation) detected in 16.3%. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis was found in 11.1% of patients, gastrointestinal abnormalities in 8.9%, ear nose and throat problems in 22.6%, dermatologic problems in 21.8% and osteoporosis in 15.3%. Learning difficulties and/or psychosocial problems were encountered in 39.1%. Insulin resistance and impaired fasting glucose were detected in 3.4% and 2.2%, respectively. Dyslipidemia prevalence was 11.4%. Conclusion: This comprehensive study systematically evaluated the largest group of karyotype-proven TS girls to date. The karyotype distribution, congenital anomaly and comorbidity profile closely parallel that from other countries and support the need for close medical surveillance of these complex patients throughout their lifespan. © Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology
