Automatic Detection of Depression in Speech Using Ensemble Convolutional Neural Networks

This paper proposes a speech-based method for automatic depression classification. The system is based on ensemble learning for Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and is evaluated using the data and the experimental protocol provided in the Depression Classification Sub-Challenge (DCC) at the 2016 Audio–Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC-2016). In the pre-processing phase, speech files are represented as a sequence of log-spectrograms and randomly sampled to balance positive and negative samples. For the classification task itself, first, a more suitable architecture for this task, based on One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Networks, is built. Secondly, several of these CNN-based models are trained with different initializations and then the corresponding individual predictions are fused by using an Ensemble Averaging algorithm and combined per speaker to get an appropriate final decision. The proposed ensemble system achieves satisfactory results on the DCC at the AVEC-2016 in comparison with a reference system based on Support Vector Machines and hand-crafted features, with a CNN+LSTM-based system called DepAudionet, and with the case of a single CNN-based classifier.This research was partly funded by Spanish Government grant TEC2017-84395-P

Interpreting the Relationship Between Emotions and Understanding in Mathematics: An Operational Approach Applied to Measurement with Preservice Elementary Teachers

This research explores the relationship between emotions and understanding in mathematics. In concrete, an interpretive model is proposed allowing to relate, operationally, the student's emotional experience with a functional view of their understanding, based on their uses of mathematical knowledge. The model includes a specific method for detecting the connections between students’ emotions and their understanding during mathematical practices in the classroom. This method is applied in an empirical qualitative study with preservice elementary teachers involved in measurement problem solving in pairs. The study provides positive results on the influence of students' understanding on the generation of their different emotions during the mathematical activity performed. In the same way, the emotions provide plausible reasons that help to explain the students’ mathematical understanding.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBUA

Integrating the affective domain when interpreting understanding in Mathematics: an operational approach

We present here an integrative proposal allowing to interpret the different systems of the affective domain and its relationship with understanding when performing mathematical activity. A conceptualisation of the affective domain is advanced based on the emotional system, which serves as a central point of reference, and a functional perspective of understanding relating to the uses given to mathematical knowledge. We also provide a specific interpretive method and exemplify it with a practical case of a preservice elementary teacher engaged in solving a flat surface measurement task. To conclude, by incorporating affective phenomena into the interpretation, we found complementary reasons that accounted for the student’s mathematical understanding.Universidad de Málaga. Apuntes y reflexiones en torno a la obra restauradora del arquitecto Francisco Prieto-Moreno y Pardo

On these pages we offer a synthesis about the figure and the intense professional activity carried out by the architect Francisco Prieto-Moreno. We outline part of the guidelines of his thoughts on restoration, sustaining this analysis on the study of some of his most outstanding experiences in the subject. Going over some of his works as a professional architect allows us to come closer to the complex problems in monumental restoration during Franco’s regime. In the last decade there have been numerous historiographical contributions which help mitigate the lack of studies about this period, however, as we explain in this text, there is a need for monographic research which might recover the crucial work of its protagonists.En estas páginas ofrecemos una síntesis sobre la figura y la intensa actividad profesional desempeñada por el arquitecto Francisco Prieto-Moreno. Esbozamos parte de las directrices de su pensamiento restaurador, sustentando dicho análisis en un recorrido por algunas de sus experiencias más sobresalientes en la materia. La revisión de parte de sus trabajos como profesional de la Arquitectura nos permite aproximarnos a la compleja problemática de la restauración monumental en el Franquismo. Durante la última década han sido numerosas las aportaciones historiográficas que contribuyen a paliar la escasez de estudios sobre este periodo aunque, como desarrollamos en este texto, son necesarias investigaciones monográficas que recuperen la labor crucial de sus protagonistas

Desarrollo de un sistema cortafuegos modular basado en XDP

En un mundo cada vez más conectado, con el crecimiento exponencial del volumen de datos en la red, los ataques en internet, como los ataques de denegación del servicio, son cada vez más frecuentes. Actualmente es de interés el desarrollo de herramientas de seguridad modulares que, por una parte, permitan añadir fácilmente aportaciones de la comunidad de desarrolladores y, por otra, sean sencillas de utilizar por parte del usuario. La aportación de este trabajo de fin de grado cosiste en el diseño y desarrollo de un cortafuegos, que permitirá, por un lado, que los programadores añadan sus propias soluciones de forma muy sencilla y, por otro lado, a los usuarios gestionar el cortafuegos fácilmente. En primer lugar, se analizarán las soluciones y sistemas de cortafuegos existentes en el mercado con el fin de detectar sus fortalezas y debilidades. El propósito es diseñar una aplicación que supla estas carencias y sea verdaderamente útil para el usuario. Una vez realizado el estudio, se procederá a diseñar la aplicación utilizando el mejor sistema para filtrar paquetes. Entre las distintas posibilidades disponibles actualmente, XDP es una alternativa muy interesante puesto que permite que se ejecute código en el controlador de tarjeta de red. La ventaja de este sistema es poder eliminar paquetes a alta velocidad y con menos recursos, algo muy importante cuando se trata de detener un ataque. La principal desventaja es la complejidad del desarrollo y comunicación debido a la necesidad de utilizar lenguajes de bajo nivel en el funcionamiento interno y de alto nivel en la interfaz. Por último, se realizarán pruebas de rendimiento y de validación con el fin de comprobar que todos los requisitos se satisfacen y el cortafuegos es viable. Esto es muy importante, ya que es una aplicación corriendo en una zona crítica del sistem
