Characterization of the killer toxin KTCf20 from wickerhamomyces anomalus, a potential biocontrol agent against wine spoilage yeasts

Wickerhamomyces anomalus Cf20 secretes the killer toxin KTCf20 that inhibits several wine spoilage yeasts of the species Pichia guilliermondii, P. membranifaciens, Brettanomyces bruxellensis and Dekkera anomala. KTCf20 binds cell wall extracts from the sensitive target P. guilliermondii Cd6; however, this capacity was lost when cell wall extracts were pre-treated with fungal β-glucanase. Pustulan and laminarin inhibited killer activity, suggesting that β-1,3 and β-1,6-glucans may be the putative binding sites for KTCf20 on the cell wall of sensitive cells. The toxin was produced and showed to be stable and highly active at physicochemical conditions suitable for winemaking process. In addition, the strain Cf20 is compatible with Saccharomyces cerevisiae in co-culture conditions being potential its application in a mixed starter culture. These data suggest that W. anomalus Cf20 and/or KTCf20 are promising biocontrol agents against spoilage yeasts during wine-making process.Fil: Fernandez de Ullivarri, Miguel. A seedsnipe (Aves, Charadriiformes, Thinocoridae) from the Ensenadan Age/Stage (early-middle Pleistocene) of Buenos Aires, Argentina

The fossil record of the Charadriiformes in South America is scarce and limited to the Neogene of Argentina and Peru. In the present contribution, we present and describe a nearly complete tarsometatarsus of Thinocorus rumicivorus (Least Seedsnipe) from the Ensenadan Age/Stage (early-middle Pleistocene) of Punta Hermengo, Buenos Aires province, Argentina, which constitutes the youngest record for the species to date. We also compare the material with extant and fossil Thinocoridae. The stratigraphic range of the fossil predates the Matuyama/Brunhes boundary and is coincident with the biozone of Mesotherium cristatum, which indicates a more humid and warmer climate than the present for the species.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

Diseño e implementación de un control de velocidad para un motor de corriente continua de 12 HP de una máquina rebobinadora de papel

El proyecto de Diseño e Implementación de un control de velocidad para un motor de corriente continua de 12HP de una máquina rebobinadora de papel, consiste en implementar un sistema electrónico al ingreso de voltaje del motor, de tal manera que permita mantener una velocidad constante en el rotor. En el desarrollo del proyecto, se implementó un sistema que consiste en dos etapas: una etapa de potencia y otra la etapa de control. Para el diseño de la parte de potencia se utilizó tres Tiristores y tres Diodos en configuración trifásica de media onda. Para la parte del control se diseñó una tarjeta electrónica que tiene dos amplificadores operacionales, tres circuitos de sincronismo y generación de pulsos, un circuito de detección de secuencia de fases el cual inhibe el funcionamiento del control cuando la fase está invertida y también tiene un circuito de censado para limitar la corriente y así proteger el control. La variación de la velocidad para la máquina se hará por medio de un potenciómetro electrónico el cual variará el porcentaje de voltaje del motor, este será proporcionar a la velocidad.Campus Lima Centr

An activity required in the educational field is the vocational counseling, which is considered fundamental because of the importance on the future of the students.Nevertheless there are only a few researches that meassure the correlation between the dominant areas identified by the career adviser and with the professional career election taken by the student at the end of high scholl degree.The methodology used in this research allow the vocational counseling or career adviser to provide the student with information of the specific area attached to their interests and flairs. The results of this research work, demonstrate that there is a correlation between the interests, skills and specific areas identified in the student, with the race which elects the graduation of his high school.Una de las actividades que se requiere en el ámbito educativo, es la orientación vocacional, a la que se considera de primordial importancia por su papel en la vida futura del estudiante. Sin embargo, son pocos los estudios en que se mide la correlación o correspondencia entre lo que el orientador identifica como áreas dominantes y lo que el alumno elige estudiar al término de su bachillerato. La metodología aplicada en esta investigación, nos permite dar a conocer al estudiante el área específica a fin de que elija lo que mejor se apegue a sus intereses y aptitudes. Los resultados obtenidos en este trabajo de investigación, demuestran que existe una correlación entre los intereses, aptitudes y áreas específicas identificadas en el alumno, con la carrera que elige al egresar de su bachillerato

Modelo de desarrollo local para el sector rural: aplicación a un estudio de caso en puebla, México

La producción de durazno mejorado en Chiautzingo, Puebla, se realiza aproximadamente por 100 productores que disponen de una hectárea cada uno. La presencia de heladas severas ha afectado la producción y el ingreso, por lo que ha recurrido a préstamos del Ayuntamiento para adquirir insumos. El objetivo en este trabajo fue elaborar una propuesta de modelo de desarrollo local, y su aplicación en el caso de la producción de durazno de Chiautzingo. El modelo se formuló con base en cuatro elementos, dos en el contexto rural: ámbito de actuación territorial y, participación social en forma organizada; y otros dos en el contexto institucional: generación de conocimiento y uso de información y, apoyos técnicos y económicos para operar programas y financiar proyectos productivos. La aplicación del modelo se inició en un grupo de 52 productores, donde mediante una acción de acompañamiento, fue posible contribuir en el proceso de organización. Se proporcionó los servicios de investigación, capacitación, asesoría técnica continua, información, tecnología, plantas, insumos, herramienta profesional para poda, equipo de aspersión. Esto se logró mediante la interacción de los productores con personal del Colegio de Postgraduados, Ayuntamiento municipal, Consejo estatal de productores de durazno y la Secretaría de Desarrollo Rural

The LEADER method is conformed in seven features which are factors of success in the approach of applying in different territories . The actions held in the municipal council of rural development of San Andres C a l p a n during 2010 showed some elements of LEADER for it´s adjustment: 1).- territory definition , 2).- local association , 3).- financing. It´s used a methodology consists of reviewing documents about the financing and association in the territory studied, survey applying t define the model of agricultural production and development along with mayors of different municipalities, the economical and social actors. Experience of the MALA bag in the open abdomen management in an Obstetrical Intensive Care Unit

Introduction: Current indications for open abdomen management are damage control surgery, severe intra-abdominal sepsis, abdominal compartment syndrome, abdominal wall closure under tension and mass loss of the abdominal wall. Objective: To describe the experience in open abdomen management using the MALA (mayor absorción de líquido abdominal [greater absorption of abdominal liquid]) bag at the Maternal-Perinatal Hospital Mónica Pretelini Saénz, Health Institute of the State of Mexico. Material and Methods: This was a bidirectional, descriptive and observational study. All patients with the diagnosis of open abdomen managed with the MALA bag admitted to the Obstetric Intensive Care Unit from February 2009 to June 2012 were included. Results: From 25 cases identified in the period of the study, seven were eliminated for incomplete files, remaining 18 cases for the analysis. The mean age was 31.5 years. 78% of the patients were multigravidas, 50% of them with a history of 2 or more deliveries, 83% had a previous cesarean section and 78% were hysterectomized. Evisceration was present in one patient. The main indication for surgical management was damage control. One patient died and a second was transferred to another institution, the rest were discharged by clinical improvement. 12 patients (67%) spent less than 14 days in the Obstetric Intensive Care Unit, only one patient required more than 30 days in the unit. Discussion: Halve the women who required this surgical alternative, were above 30 years of age. Stressing is the fact that from the 18 admitted patients, 14 (78%) had undergone obstetric hysterectomy, with the etiology of uterine atony in most cases. Damage control surgery seems to be the most elective surgical option to use MALA bag followed by ACS and abdominal sepsis. Conclusion: The MALA bag can offer an economic and effective surgical option for the open abdomen management as well as a drainage technique

Stress-induced Gene Expression Sensing Intracellular Heating Triggered by Magnetic Hyperthermia

It is known that alternating magnetic field applications on eukaryotic cells loaded with single domain iron oxide nanoparticles result in high hyperthermic citotoxicity leading to cell dead. Although magnetic hyperthermia therapy for cancer tumours is being developed under this idea, some in vitro assays have shown controversial results indicating that alternating magnetic field triggers large apoptotic effect without significant culture-temperature increase. In agreement with these observations a huge lowering in nanoparticle specific heating rates, when going from the colloidal suspension to cell endosomes, together with cell death, has been reported. Here, we propose a new methodology to determine the occurrence of local heating in cells when alternating magnetic fields in the radiofrequency field range are applied to cell cultures holding very low iron oxide concentrations, being these concentrations insufficient to produce a global cell-culture temperature increase up to therapeutic values. To this end, human lung adenocarcinoma cells (A549 cell line) were transduced with a lentiviral vector encoding the expression of the enhanced green fluorescence protein, EGFP, under the action of the inducible human heat shock protein 70B promoter. This modified A549 cell line was incubated with aqueous suspensions of magnetite core nanoparticles (uncoated or covered with coating agents like citric acid or silicon oxide), and exposed to radiofrequency fields. The application of an alternating magnetic field to cell cultures loaded with nanoparticles resulted in no global temperature increase but EGFP expression. Stress-inducible gene expression scales with uptake and nanoparticle properties like saturation magnetization and heat dissipation efficiency. Formación geoarqueológica del sitio arqueológico El Porvenir, vereda El Porvenir, municipio de Iles, departamento de Nariño (Colombia)

The text presented below is part of the results of the Preventive Archeology Program carried out within the framework of the execution of the Rumichaca -Pasto road project, and is based on the archaeological interventions carried out in the El Porvenir village, Municipality of Iles, Nariño. department, southern Colombia. This research seeks to contribute to the knowledge of archaeological contexts from the geoarchaeological perspective, through the understanding of anthropic and natural processes, found in two terraces. El presente texto hace parte de los resultados del programa de arqueología preventiva llevado a cabo en el marco de la ejecución del proyecto vial Rumichaca- Pasto, y se basa en las intervenciones arqueológicas realizadas en la vereda El Porvenir, municipio de Iles, departamento de Nariño, al sur de Colombia. Edmund Husserl: phantasia e imaginación : estudio sistemático del rol y la evolución de las presentificaciones intuitivas en el tránsito hacia la fenomenología trascendental (1898-1913) /

La presente tesis doctoral tiene como objetivo llevar a cabo un estudio exhaustivo del rol de la phantasía en el tránsito de la fenomenología como psicología descriptiva en las Investigaciones lógicas hasta su formulación como filosofía trascendental en Ideas I. A lo largo de esta investigación, defiendo la idea de que el tránsito de una fenomenología de corte inmanentista, como la practicada en las Investigaciones lógicas, hacia una fenomenología trascendental cabe ser leída como la búsqueda de un suelo absolutamente evidente que dé cuenta de una distinción definitiva entre percepción y phantasía. Y si en un primer momento la primacía de la percepción sobre lo imaginario se sostenía sobre la base de un suelo sufragado por una herencia empirista, la progresiva ganancia de legitimidad de las presentificaciones intuitivas se explica por el sucesivo debilitamiento del primero. Considero que un momento clave de esta evolución se da alrededor de los años 1905-1907. La necesidad de dotar de un fundamento último a la distinción entre percepción y phantasía conduce a Husserl a una profunda revisión de su propio método. Es en este contexto en el que el "descubrimiento" de la reducción fenomenológica le permite abandonar definitivamente el modelo de las presentificaciones intuitivas fundado sobre la conciencia de imagen [Bildbewusstsein] para dar lugar al modelo definitivo, que las considera como una modificación reproductiva particular ("de punta a punta"). Son tres los elementos centrales sobre los que Husserl articula su propuesta: la reflexión y su eficacia para incorporar el "yo-imaginario" a la propia noción (ampliada) de conciencia; la phantasía como reproducción de nexos posicionales inactuales; y las posiciones dóxicas inherentes a la phantasía y sus respectiva neutralización. Con ello, Husserl introduce hacia 1912 (y en adelante) la posibilidad de una crítica del conocimiento que permita una mezcla entre percepción y phantasía; fundamental para el análisis eidético de cualquier ámbito de la realidad.This Dissertation aims to conduct a comprehensive study on the role of phantasy within the transit from phenomenology as descriptive psychology, as exposed in the Logical Investigations, to its formulation as a transcendental philosophy in Ideas I. Throughout this research, I defend the idea that this transition from a immanentist to a transcendental phenomenology can be read as the seeking of an ultimate foundation to give account for a definite distinction between perception and phantasy. And if at the very first the primacy of perception over imagination was held on the basis of its empiricist heritage, the progressive gain of legitimacy of the latter, the intuitive presentifications, can be explained by the successive weakening of the former. I consider that a key moment in this evolution occurs around the years 1905-1907. The need to provide a final basis for the distinction between perception and phantasy led Husserl to a thorough review of its own method. It is in this context that the "discovery" of the phenomenological reduction allows him to abandon the model of intuitive presentificaciones based on the image consciousness [Bildbewusstsein] in order to achieve the definitive model, which consider them as a particular reproductive modification ("through and through"). There are three key elements on which Husserl articulates his proposal: reflection and the performance of the "imaginary Ego" to incorporate it to the notion of (extended) consciousness; phantasy as reproduction of the non-actual positional nexus; and the doxic positions inherent to phantasy and their respective neutralization. With this, Husserl introduced around 1912 (and beyond) the possibility of a critique of knowledge that allows a mixture between perception and phantasia; fundamental for an eidetic analysis of any realm of reality
