    Indian Poetry in Slovenian Cultural Space

    The article attempts to analyse how known Indian poetry is in Slovenian cultural space, which authors have been translated and what research has been done into it. The article finds that Indian poetry is despite differences between Slovenian and Indian cultural spaces relatively well known. The most widely read poet is Rabindranath Tagore, who strongly influenced Slovenian modernist poet Srečko Kosovel. Publications of Indian poetry are mostly limited to anthologies

    Chopper Stabilized Low Resistance Comparator

    The paper describes an improvement of the chopper method for elimination of parasitic voltages in a low resistance comparison and measurement procedure. The basic circuit diagram along with a short description of the working principle are presented and the appropriate low resistance comparator prototype was designed and realized. Preliminary examinations confirm the possibility of measuring extremely low voltages. Very high accuracy in resistance comparison and measurement is achieved (0.08 ppm for 1,000 attempts). Some special critical features in the design are discussed and solutions for overcoming the problems are described

    Chitosan-based microparticles for immobilization of TiO2 nanoparticles and their application for photodegradation of textile dyes

    The present paper deals with removal and photocatalytic degradation of the textile dyes by TiO2 nanoparticles immobilized onto chitosan-based microparticles. The microparticles composed of chitosan (Ch) and poly(methacrylic acid) (PMA) were fabricated for the first time by inverse suspension polymerization. They were utilized for colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles immobilization, synthetized by acidic hydrolysis of TiCl4. To evaluate the potential application of Ch/PMA/TiO2 microparticles for treatment of textile wastwaters, their photocatalytic activity was examined by degradation assessment of three different groups of anionic azo dyes in aqueous solutions under solar light simulating source. FTIR analysis revealed that Ch and PMA were incorporated in the polymer network. SEM and optical microscopy confirmed their spherical shape. Under illumination, Ch/PMA/TiO2 microparticles completely removed dyes C.I. Acid Orange 7, C.I. Acid Red 18, C.I. Acid Blue 113, C.I. Reactive Black 5, C.I. Direct Blue 78, while removal degree of C.I. Reactive Yellow 17 was 75%. It was found that pH had significant influence on the photocatalytic activity of Ch/PMA/TiO2 microparticles. Increase of solution pH from acidic to alkaline, lead to decrease in photodegradation rate of C.I. Acid Orange 7 during the first hours of illumination. After three illumination cycles, removal degree of C.I. Acid Orange 7 was maintained at remarkably high level (95% at pH 5.60 and 100% at pH 2.00 and 8.00), indicating that microparticles could be reused without significant loss of photocatalytic efficiency.     Application of Non-Eqilibrium Plasmas in Top-Down and Bottom-Up Nanotechnologies and Biomedicine

    In this paper we discuss how a better understanding of thermal and mainly non-thermal plasmas provides basis for their application in a number or nanotechnologies. One should bear in mind that one may design unique properties of plasmas thus affecting very directly properties of the resulting nanostructures. A number of examples where plasmas contribute to production of nanomaterials, modification of surfaces and functionalization at nanoscales are given here. Plasmas are not a panacea but in nanotechnology their application may be the best strategy to convert production of individual structures to massively parallel production that may become a viable industrial technology

    A Study on Multimemetic Estimation of Distribution Algorithms

    PPSN 2014, LNCS 8672, pp. 322-331Multimemetic algorithms (MMAs) are memetic algorithms in which memes (interpreted as non-genetic expressions of problem solving strategies) are explicitly represented and evolved alongside genotypes. This process is commonly approached using the standard genetic procedures of recombination and mutation to manipulate directly information at the memetic level. We consider an alternative approach based on the use of estimation of distribution algorithms to carry on this self-adaptive memetic optimization process. We study the application of different EDAs to this end, and provide an extensive experimental evaluation.     Effect of particle size on silver nanoparticle deposition onto dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma functionalized polyamide fabric

    The effect on the deposition of three different size silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) onto a polyamide 6,6 (PA) fabric pre-treated using air dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma was investigated. The SEM, EDS, and XPS analysis confirm that the smaller is the diameter of AgNPs, the higher the amount of adsorbed NPs on the PA. The DBD treatment on PA induces a threefold increase in Ag adsorption. The result confirms a dual effect on the wettability of the plasma treated PA substrate. AgNPs slightly enhance hydrophobicity of the PA surface and, at the same time, protect it against the plasma aging effect.     Plasma technology applied to textiles is a dry, environmentally- and worker-friendly method to achieve surface alteration without modifying the bulk properties of different materials. In particular, atmospheric non-thermal plasmas are suited because most textile materials are heat sensitive polymers and applicable in a continuous processes. In the last years plasma technology has become a very active, high growth research field, assuming a great importance among all available material surface modifications in textile industry.     Individual and country-level variables associated with the medicalization of birth: Multilevel analyses of IMAgiNE EURO data from 15 countries in the WHO European region

    Objective: To investigate potential associations between individual and country-level factors and medicalization of birth in 15 European countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Online anonymous survey of women who gave birth in 2020–2021. Multivariable multilevel logistic regression models estimating associations between indicators of medicalization (cesarean, instrumental vaginal birth [IVB], episiotomy, fundal pressure) and proxy variables related to care culture and contextual factors at the individual and country level. Results: Among 27 173 women, 24.4% (n = 6650) had a cesarean and 8.8% (n = 2380) an IVB. Among women with IVB, 41.9% (n = 998) reported receiving fundal pressure. Among women with spontaneous vaginal births, 22.3% (n = 4048) had an episiotomy. Less respectful care, as perceived by the women, was associated with higher levels of medicalization. For example, women who reported having a cesarean, IVB, or episiotomy reported not feeling treated with dignity more frequently than women who did not have those interventions (odds ratio [OR] 1.37; OR 1.61; OR 1.51, respectively; all: P< 0.001). Country-level variables contributed to explaining some of the variance between countries. Conclusion: We recommend a greater emphasis in health policies on promotion of respectful and patient-centered care approaches to birth to enhance women's experiences of care, and the development of a European-level indicator to monitor medicalization of reproductive care
