Phenotype-specific association of the TGFBR3 locus with nonsyndromic cryptorchidism
PURPOSE:
Based on a genome-wide association study of testicular dysgenesis syndrome showing a possible association with TGFBR3, we analyzed data from a larger, phenotypically restricted cryptorchidism population for potential replication of this signal.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
We excluded samples based on strict quality control criteria, leaving 844 cases and 2,718 controls of European ancestry that were analyzed in 2 separate groups based on genotyping platform (ie Illumina® HumanHap550, version 1 or 3, or Human610-Quad, version 1 BeadChip in group 1 and Human OmniExpress 12, version 1 BeadChip platform in group 2). Analyses included genotype imputation at the TGFBR3 locus, association analysis of imputed data with correction for population substructure, subsequent meta-analysis of data for groups 1 and 2, and selective genotyping of independent cases (330) and controls (324) for replication. We also measured Tgfbr3 mRNA levels and performed TGFBR3/betaglycan immunostaining in rat fetal gubernaculum.
RESULTS:
We identified suggestive (p ≤ 1× 10(-4)) association of markers in/near TGFBR3, including rs9661103 (OR 1.40; 95% CI 1.20, 1.64; p = 2.71 × 10(-5)) and rs10782968 (OR 1.58; 95% CI 1.26, 1.98; p = 9.36 × 10(-5)) in groups 1 and 2, respectively. In subgroup analyses we observed strongest association of rs17576372 (OR 1.42; 95% CI 1.24, 1.60; p = 1.67 × 10(-4)) with proximal and rs11165059 (OR 1.32; 95% CI 1.15, 1.38; p = 9.42 × 10(-4)) with distal testis position, signals in strong linkage disequilibrium with rs9661103 and rs10782968, respectively. Association of the prior genome-wide association study signal (rs12082710) was marginal (OR 1.13; 95% CI 0.99, 1.28; p = 0.09 for group 1), and we were unable to replicate signals in our independent cohort. Tgfbr3/betaglycan was differentially expressed in wild-type and cryptorchid rat fetal gubernaculum.
CONCLUSIONS:
These data suggest complex or phenotype specific association of cryptorchidism with TGFBR3 and the gubernaculum as a potential target of TGFβ signaling
Hard diffraction in hadron--hadron interactions and in photoproduction
Hard single diffractive processes are studied within the framework of the
triple--Pomeron approximation. Using a Pomeron structure function motivated by
Regge--theory we obtain parton distribution functions which do not obey
momentum sum rule. Based on Regge-- factorization cross sections for hard
diffraction are calculated. Furthermore, the model is applied to hard
diffractive particle production in photoproduction and in

Harmonic Sums and Mellin Transforms up to two-loop Order
A systematic study is performed on the finite harmonic sums up to level four.
These sums form the general basis for the Mellin transforms of all individual
functions of the momentum fraction emerging in the quantities of
massless QED and QCD up to two--loop order, as the unpolarized and polarized
splitting functions, coefficient functions, and hard scattering cross sections
for space and time-like momentum transfer. The finite harmonic sums are
calculated explicitly in the linear representation. Algebraic relations
connecting these sums are derived to obtain representations based on a reduced
set of basic functions. The Mellin transforms of all the corresponding Nielsen

The "recoil" correction of order to hyperfine splitting of positronium ground state
The "recoil" correction of order to the hyperfine splitting of
positronium ground state was found. The formalism employed is based on the
noncovariant perturbation theory in QED. Equation for two-particle component of
full (many-body) wave function is used, in which effective Hamiltonian depends
on the energy of a system. The effective Hamiltonian is not restricted to the
nonrelativistic region, so there is no need in any regularization. To evaluate
integrals over loop momenta, they are divided into "hard" and "soft" parts,
coming from large and small momenta respectively. Soft contributions were found
analytically, and hard ones are evaluated by numerical integration. Some soft
terms due to the retardation cancel each other. To calculate the "hard"
contributions, a great number of noncovariant graphs is replaced by only a few
covariant ones. The hard contribution was found in two ways. The first way is
to evaluate contributions of separate graphs, using the Coulomb gauge. The
second one is to calculate full hard contribution as a whole using the Feynman
gauge. The final result for the "recoil" correction is 0.381(6) m\al^6 and
agrees with those of previous papers. Diagram-to-diagram comparison with the
revised results of Adkins&Sapirstein was done. All the results agree, so the
"recoil" correction is now firmly established. This means a considerable

Next-to-Leading Order QCD Corrections to Jet Cross Sections and Jet Rates in Deeply Inelastic Electron Proton Scattering
Jet cross sections in deeply inelastic scattering in the case of transverse
photon exchange for the production of (1+1) and (2+1) jets are calculated in
next-to-leading order QCD (here the `+1' stands for the target remnant jet,
which is included in the jet definition for reasons that will become clear in
the main text). The jet definition scheme is based on a modified JADE cluster
algorithm. The calculation of the (2+1) jet cross section is described in
detail. Results for the virtual corrections as well as for the real initial-
and final state corrections are given explicitly. Numerical results are stated
for jet cross sections as well as for the ratio \sigma_{\mbox{\small (2+1)
jet}}/\sigma_{\mbox{\small tot}} that can be expected at E665 and HERA.
Furthermore the scale ambiguity of the calculated jet cross sections is studied

Global QCD Analysis and the CTEQ Parton Distributions
The CTEQ program for the determination of parton distributions through a
global QCD analysis of data for various hard scattering processes is fully
described. A new set of distributions, CTEQ3, incorporating several new types
of data is reported and compared to the two previous sets of CTEQ
distributions. Comparison with current data is discussed in some detail. The
remaining uncertainties in the parton distributions and methods to further
reduce them are assessed. Comparisons with the results of other global analyses

Search for Neutral Higgs Bosons in Events with Multiple Bottom Quarks at the Tevatron
The combination of searches performed by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the
Fermilab Tevatron Collider for neutral Higgs bosons produced in association
with b quarks is reported. The data, corresponding to 2.6 fb-1 of integrated
luminosity at CDF and 5.2 fb-1 at D0, have been collected in final states
containing three or more b jets. Upper limits are set on the cross section
multiplied by the branching ratio varying between 44 pb and 0.7 pb in the Higgs
boson mass range 90 to 300 GeV, assuming production of a narrow scalar boson.
Significant enhancements to the production of Higgs bosons can be found in
theories beyond the standard model, for example in supersymmetry. The results
are interpreted as upper limits in the parameter space of the minimal
supersymmetric standard model in a benchmark scenario favoring this decay mode.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
A search for resonant production of pairs in $4.8\ \rm{fb}^{-1}p\bar{p}\sqrt{s}=1.96\ \rm{TeV}$
We search for resonant production of tt pairs in 4.8 fb^{-1} integrated
luminosity of ppbar collision data at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in the lepton+jets decay
channel, where one top quark decays leptonically and the other hadronically. A
matrix element reconstruction technique is used; for each event a probability
density function (pdf) of the ttbar candidate invariant mass is sampled. These
pdfs are used to construct a likelihood function, whereby the cross section for
resonant ttbar production is estimated, given a hypothetical resonance mass and
width. The data indicate no evidence of resonant production of ttbar pairs. A
benchmark model of leptophobic Z \rightarrow ttbar is excluded with m_{Z'} <
