    HypermediaFilmAnalysis: herramienta para el análisis cinematográfico mediante redes hipermedia

    Este proyecto introduce un nuevo modelo para el análisis de obras cinematográficas usando como estructura las Redes Hipermedia. En él se aprovecha el poder de estas estructuras para dotar al análisis de una mayor funcionalidad y visualidad que la que ofrece el simple análisis textual. Con ello se pretende utilizar el poder de análisis de la información mediante las tecnologías de información, adaptado al arte más importante e influyente en la actualidad, el cine. La teoría de la Deconstrucción desarrollada a finales de los años sesenta es la principal base sobre la que se construye el mismo. Se propone también la implementación de una aplicación desarrollada en Java, cuyo diseño está basado en el patrón MVC (Modelo, Vista, Controlador) que utiliza bibliotecas como Swing, Jgraph y Jdom. Con ésta se da la posibilidad al usuario de exportar sus análisis, incluyendo material multimedia, a un formato HTML. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This work introduces a new model for Film Analysis, using as basic structure Hypermedia Networks.     A simplified computer vision system for road surface inspection and maintenance

    This paper presents a computer vision system whose aim is to detect and classify cracks on road surfaces. Most of the previous works consisted of complex and expensive acquisition systems, whereas we have developed a simpler one composed by a single camera mounted on a light truck and no additional illumination. The system also includes tracking devices in order to geolocalize the captured images. The computer vision algorithm has three steps: hard shoulder detection, cell candidate proposal, and crack classification. First the region of interest (ROI) is delimited using the Hough transform (HT) to detect the hard shoulders. The cell candidate step is divided into two substeps: Hough transform features (HTF) and local binary pattern (LBP). Both of them split up the image into nonoverlapping small grid cells and also extract edge orientation and texture features, respectively. At the fusion stage, the detection is completed by mixing those techniques and obtaining the crack seeds. Afterward, their shape is improved using a new developed morphology operator. Finally, one classification based on the orientation of the detected lines has been applied following the Chain code. Massive experiments were performed on several stretches on a Spanish road showing very good performance

    Spatial Interaction Regional Model for the Mexican Economy (SIRMME): A Special Case for Mexico City Metropolitan Area

    This paper analyzes empirically a macro model and a regional model to explain Mexico and Mexico City economies respectively. Typically, regional economic modeling considers either a top-down or bottom-up approach to model regional difference in economic growth. This paper shows results that explain regional difference in Mexico from the bottom-up through a special case that focuses on the spatial interaction between Mexico City -the main economic engine of Mexico- and the rest of the country during the period 2000-2010. Our results indicate that variables associated with human capital, internal migration, "creative class", micro-firms and spatial interaction among micro-regions were conditioning the differential growth between Mexico City and the whole country during the period 2000-2010. Likewise, we present econometric results of a typical macro model that explains economic growth in Mexico by different income effects on components of aggregate demand during the period 1993-2010. The purpose of both exercises is to motivate future research for the Mexican case to link macro components (such as export driven forces, Mexico´s dependency to the USA´s business cycle, loss of government spending, etc.) with their local counterparts such as agglomeration economies, human and creative capital stock, regional spillovers, natural resources, dynamic population, etc. to explain regional differential growth

    Ruido y vibraciones en el sector de la construcción

    De los contaminantes presentes en entornos laborales, el ruido es uno de los agentes más comunes, aunque suele pasar más desapercibido que otros. En diferentes trabajos realizados por el grupo de investigación IDEA (Investigación y Desarrollo en Acústica) de la Escuela Politécnica de Cuenca, se han evaluado varias metodologías de medida y análisis de la exposición de ruido y vibraciones en entornos laborales en el sector de la construcción mediante sonómetros, dosímetros, vibrómetros y HATS (head-s). Se han analizado los resultados de los niveles de exposición atendiendo a distintas profesiones y tareas, fundamentalmente en obras de tamaño pequeño y mediano, para comparar los resultados obtenidos con los límites establecidos por la legislación en el Real Decreto 286/2006, en caso de niveles de ruido, y el Real Decreto 1311/2005 para vibraciones y, en caso necesario, poder establecer medidas para proponer soluciones preventivas. También se han realizados estudios de percepción de niveles de ruido para comparar los resultados objetivos con la sensación de riesgo y la evaluación subjetiva de distintos ambientes laborales, aplicando los parámetros típicos empleados en psicoacústica

    Análisis objetivo y subjetivo del ruido emitido por máquinas

    El ruido industrial producido por las máquinas es una fuente de ruido muy extendida en los países industrializados, y que afecta tanto a trabajadores como a vecinos. Dada la gran importancia de esta fuente de ruido, el grupo de Investigación y Desarrollo en Acústica (IDEA) de la Escuela Politécnica de Cuenca ha llevado a cabo diversas investigaciones centradas en la medida y evaluación del ruido producido por las mismas. Dichas investigaciones se han centrado en la evaluación tanto objetiva como subjetiva del ruido producido las máquinas. Desde el punto de vista objetivo, se ha evaluado la potencia acústica emitida por máquinas de diversos tamaños, desde máquinas pequeñas (taladros, amoladoras, etc.) a máquinas grandes (excavadoras, dumpers, etc.), analizando el método estandarizado que mejor se adecúa a la medida de potencia acústica en cada uno de estos grupos y la emisión acústica de dichas máquinas. Desde el punto de vista psicoacústico, se han evaluado los parámetros psicoacústicos objetivos, permitiéndonos conocer en mayor detalle la emisión que presenta este tipo de máquinas. Además, se han pasado encuestas a distintas personas, con el fin de conocer la percepción subjetiva que tienen del ruido emitido por las mismas. Los resultados obtenidos con los distintos parámetros analizados (acústicos y psicoacústicos) permitió la elaboración de patrones acústicos y de un nuevo código de etiquetado de máquinas en el que se ponen de manifiesto, de forma clara y sencilla, las características del ruido emitido por las mismas y su percepción psicoacústica. Además, se han explorado nuevos procedimientos de medida en base a distintas técnicas de procesado, como por ejemplo la separación ciega de fuentes, que establecen un punto de partida que podrá permitir la medida de la potencia acústica de las máquinas evitando los problemas que presentan las técnicas estandarizadas actuales

    Related Factors of Anemia in Critically Ill Patients : A Prospective Multicenter Study

    Anemia is common in critically ill patients; almost 95% of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) have hemoglobin levels below normal. Several causes may explain this phenomenon as well as the tendency to transfuse patients without adequate cause: due to a lack of adherence to protocols, lack of supervision, incomplete transfusion request forms, or a lack of knowledge about the indications, risks, and costs of transfusions. Daily sampling to monitor the coagulation parameters and the acid-base balance can aggravate anemia as the main iatrogenic factor in its production. We studied the association and importance of iatrogenic blood loss and other factors in the incidence of anemia in ICUs. We performed a prospective, observational, multicenter study in five Spanish hospitals. A total of 142 patients with a median age of 58 years (IQI: 48-69), 71.83% male and 28.17% female, were admitted to ICUs without a diagnosis of iatrogenic anemia. During their ICU stay, anemia appeared in 66.90% of the sample, 95 patients, (95% CI: 58.51-74.56%). Risk factors associated with the occurrence of iatrogenic anemia were arterial catheter insertion (72.63% vs. 46.81%, p -value = 0.003), venous catheter insertion (87.37% vs. 72.34%, p -value = 0.023), drainages (33.68% vs. 12. 77%, p -value = 0.038), and ICU stay, where the longer the stay, the higher the rate of iatrogenic anemia (p -value < 0.001). We concluded that there was a statistical significance in the production of iatrogenic anemia due to the daily sampling for laboratory monitoring and critical procedures in intensive care units. The implementation of patient blood management programs could address these issue

    Effectiveness of an intervention for improving drug prescription in primary care patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy:Study protocol of a cluster randomized clinical trial (Multi-PAP project)

    This study was funded by the Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias ISCIII (Grant Numbers PI15/00276, PI15/00572, PI15/00996), REDISSEC (Project Numbers RD12/0001/0012, RD16/0001/0005), and the European Regional Development Fund ("A way to build Europe").Background: Multimorbidity is associated with negative effects both on people's health and on healthcare systems. A key problem linked to multimorbidity is polypharmacy, which in turn is associated with increased risk of partly preventable adverse effects, including mortality. The Ariadne principles describe a model of care based on a thorough assessment of diseases, treatments (and potential interactions), clinical status, context and preferences of patients with multimorbidity, with the aim of prioritizing and sharing realistic treatment goals that guide an individualized management. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a complex intervention that implements the Ariadne principles in a population of young-old patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. The intervention seeks to improve the appropriateness of prescribing in primary care (PC), as measured by the medication appropriateness index (MAI) score at 6 and 12months, as compared with usual care. Methods/Design: Design:pragmatic cluster randomized clinical trial. Unit of randomization: family physician (FP). Unit of analysis: patient. Scope: PC health centres in three autonomous communities: Aragon, Madrid, and Andalusia (Spain). Population: patients aged 65-74years with multimorbidity (≥3 chronic diseases) and polypharmacy (≥5 drugs prescribed in ≥3months). Sample size: n=400 (200 per study arm). Intervention: complex intervention based on the implementation of the Ariadne principles with two components: (1) FP training and (2) FP-patient interview. Outcomes: MAI score, health services use, quality of life (Euroqol 5D-5L), pharmacotherapy and adherence to treatment (Morisky-Green, Haynes-Sackett), and clinical and socio-demographic variables. Statistical analysis: primary outcome is the difference in MAI score between T0 and T1 and corresponding 95% confidence interval. Adjustment for confounding factors will be performed by multilevel analysis. All analyses will be carried out in accordance with the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: It is essential to provide evidence concerning interventions on PC patients with polypharmacy and multimorbidity, conducted in the context of routine clinical practice, and involving young-old patients with significant potential for preventing negative health outcomes.     Expanding tropical forest monitoring into Dry Forests: The DRYFLOR protocol for permanent plots

Data from global plot networks have transformed our knowledge of forests’ diversity, function, contribution to global biogeochemical cycles, and sensitivity to climate change. Monitoring has thus far been concentrated in rain forests. Despite increasing appreciation of their threatened status, biodiversity, and importance to the global carbon cycle, monitoring in tropical dry forests is still in its infancy. We provide a protocol for permanent monitoring plots in tropical dry forests.
