4MOST Consortium Survey 3: Milky Way Disc and Bulge Low-Resolution Survey (4MIDABLE-LR)
The mechanisms of the formation and evolution of the Milky Way are encoded in
the orbits, chemistry and ages of its stars. With the 4MOST MIlky way Disk And
BuLgE Low-Resolution Survey (4MIDABLE-LR) we aim to study kinematic and
chemical substructures in the Milky Way disc and bulge region with samples of
unprecedented size out to larger distances and greater precision than
conceivable with Gaia alone or any other ongoing or planned survey. Gaia gives
us the unique opportunity for target selection based almost entirely on
parallax and magnitude range, hence increasing the efficiency in sampling
larger Milky Way volumes with well-defined and effective selection functions.
Our main goal is to provide a detailed chrono-chemo-kinematical extended map of
our Galaxy and the largest Gaia follow-up down to magnitudes (Vega).
The complex nature of the disc components (for example, large target densities
and highly structured extinction distribution in the Milky Way bulge and disc
area), prompted us to develop a survey strategy with five main sub-surveys that
are tailored to answer the still open questions about the assembly and
evolution of our Galaxy, while taking full advantage of the Gaia data.Comment: Part of the 4MOST issue of The Messenger, published in preparation of

Sensitivity of antibiotic resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci to antiseptic piŃloxydin
Background. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), primarily Staphylococcus epidermidis, predominate in the normal microflora of the eye. However, due to irrational antibiotic therapy, resistant strains are widely distributed among CNS.
Aim. To study the sensitivity of the antibiotic resistant CNS isolates to picloxydine, an antiseptic.
Methods. The species, sensitivity to antibiotics and picloxydine were determined for 39 isolates of bacteria obtained from the conjunctival swabs. The cells morphology under the antiseptics influence was studied by electron microscopy.
Results. 33 isolates of S. epidermidis (17 sensitive or resistant to drugs of no more than 2 classes of antibiotics and 16 MDR), 2 S. haemolyticus (1 resistant to 2 classes of antibiotics and 1 MDR), 3 S. hominis (1 sensitive and 2 MDR), 1 S. caprae (MDR) were characterized. In in vitro tests, picloxydine showed high efficiency in suppressing the growth of staphylococci regardless of their sensitivity to antibiotics, as well as bactericidal activity at concentrations of 15.631.2 g/ml, close to those of chlorhexidine. At these concentrations, the antiseptic had a destructive effect on the surface structures of bacterial cells.
Conclusion. The picloxydine antiseptic is equally effective against antibiotic- sensitive and antibiotic-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci
Color and stellar population gradients in galaxies. Correlation with mass
We analyze the color gradients (CGs) of ~50000 nearby SDSS galaxies. From
synthetic spectral models based on a simplified star formation recipe, we
derive the mean spectral properties, and explain the observed radial trends of
the color as gradients of the stellar population age and metallicity (Z). The
most massive ETGs (M_* > 10^{11} Msun) have shallow CGs in correspondence of
shallow (negative) Z gradients. In the stellar mass range 10^(10.3-10.5) < M_*
< 10^(11) Msun, the Z gradients reach their minimum of ~ -0.5 dex^{-1}. At M_*
~ 10^{10.3-10.5} Msun, color and Z gradient slopes suddenly change. They turn
out to anti-correlate with the mass, becoming highly positive at the very low
masses. We have also found that age gradients anti-correlate with Z gradients,
as predicted by hierarchical cosmological simulations for ETGs. On the other
side, LTGs have gradients which systematically decrease with mass (and are
always more negative than in ETGs), consistently with the expectation from gas
infall and SN feedback scenarios. Z is found to be the main driver of the trend
of color gradients, especially for LTGs, but age gradients are not negligible
and seem to play a significant role too. We have been able to highlight that
older galaxies have systematically shallower age and Z gradients than younger
ones. Our results for high-mass galaxies are in perfect agreement with
predictions based on the merging scenario, while the evolution of LTGs and
younger and less massive ETGs seems to be mainly driven by infall and SN

Search for R-parity violating supersymmetry via the LLE couplings lambda_{121}, lambda_{122} or lambda_{133} in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
A search for gaugino pair production with a trilepton signature in the
framework of R-parity violating supersymmetry via the couplings lambda_121,
lambda_122, or lambda_133 is presented. The data, corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of L~360/pb, were collected from April 2002 to August
2004 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a
center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. This analysis considers final states
with three charged leptons with the flavor combinations eel, mumul, and eetau
(l=e or mu). No evidence for supersymmetry is found and limits at the 95%
confidence level are set on the gaugino pair production cross section and lower
bounds on the masses of the lightest neutralino and chargino are derived in two

We present the first measurements of the differential cross section d sigma/dp(T)(gamma) for the production of an isolated photon in association with at least two b-quark jets. The measurements consider photons with rapidities vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar < 1.0 and transverse momenta 30 < p(T)(gamma) < 200 GeV. The b-quark jets are required to have p(T)(jet) > 15 GeVand vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 1.5. The ratio of differential production cross sections for gamma + 2 b-jets to gamma + b-jet as a function of p(T)(gamma) is also presented. The results are based on the proton-antiproton collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measured cross sections and their ratios are compared to the next- to- leading order perturbative QCD calculations as well as predictions based on the k(T)- factorization approach and those from the sherpa and pythia Monte Carlo event generators
Search for W' boson production in the W'->tb decay channel
We present a search for the production of a new heavy gauge boson W' that
decays to a top quark and a bottom quark. We have analyzed 230 pb^{-1} of data
collected with the Dzero detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at a
center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. No significant excess of events above the
standard model expectation is found in any region of the final state invariant
mass distribution. We set upper limits on the production cross section of W'
bosons times branching ratio to top quarks at the 95% confidence level for
several different W' boson masses. We exclude masses between 200 GeV and 610
GeV for a W' boson with standard-model-like couplings, between 200 GeV and 630
GeV for a W' boson with right-handed couplings that is allowed to decay to both
leptons and quarks, and between 200 GeV and 670 GeV for a W' boson with
right-handed couplings that is only allowed to decay to quarks.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, accepted by Phys. Lett.
Search for Neutral Higgs Bosons Decaying to Tau Pairs in p-pbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
A search for the production of neutral Higgs bosons Phi decaying into
tau^+tau^- final states in p-pbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96
TeV is presented. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to
348 pb^-1, were collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron
Collider. Since no excess compared to the expectation from standard model
processes is found, limits on the production cross section times branching
ratio are set. The results are combined with those obtained from the D0 search
for Phi b(b) to b-bbar-b(bbar) and are interpreted in the minimal

Precise measurement of the top quark mass in the dilepton channel at D0
We measure the top quark mass (mt) in ppbar collisions at a center of mass
energy of 1.96 TeV using dilepton ttbar->W+bW-bbar->l+nubl-nubarbbar events,
where l denotes an electron, a muon, or a tau that decays leptonically. The
data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 collected with the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We obtain mt = 174.0 +- 1.8(stat)
+- 2.4(syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the current world average mt =
173.3 +- 1.1 GeV. This is currently the most precise measurement of mt in the
