    Disfobia.

    Get PDF

Development of carbon fiber acrylonitrile styrene acrylate composite for large format additive manufacturing

    Get PDF
The increasing interest of Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) technologies in various industrial sectors mainly lies on the attainable production of pieces reaching several cubic meters. These new technologies require the development of optimized materials with two-folded capabilities, able to satisfy functional in-service requirements but also showing a proper printability. Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) is among the most interesting thermoplastic materials to be implemented in a LFAM device due to its excellent wettability and mechanical properties. This research focuses on the development and characterization of ASA and carbon fiber (CF) ASA composites suitable for LFAM. The rheological, thermal and mechanical properties of neat ASA and ASA containing 20 wt% CF are addressed. The results evidence the higher performance of the CF loaded composite compared to the raw ASA polymer (i.e., the 20 wt% CF composite shows a 350% increase in flexural Young's Modulus and a 500% increment in thermal conductivity compared with neat ASA). Additionally, both materials were successfully printed along perpendicular directions (X and Z), showing the maximum tensile strain for the composite printed along the X orientation as was expected. The results of the flexural tests are comparable or slightly higher than those of injected parts. Finally, the fracture surface was analysed, identifying different types of porosity

Crafts as a key factor in local development: Bibliometric analysis

    Get PDF
The role of crafts on a global level has accrued importance at present, both for developing countries and for rural development in general. Governments and institutions are increasingly trying to promote rural development to fight against the flight of the population from rural areas. Crafts is considered an important tool for local economic development and job creation. The goal of this study is to use bibliometric analysis to analyze the advances in research in the field of crafts and their influence on the development of rural communities. It also aims to identify the main lines of research that are currently being addressed as future trends. This analysis has provided a global, systematic and visual overview of the 1379 studies related to the role of crafts in the development of rural areas, published from 1954, year in which the first publication appeared, up to 2021. Growth trends have been identified in the number of articles published, magazines, authors, institutions and most productive countries. Results have shown that the most popular lines of research on this subject are those in which crafts are considered a source of income for local communities, particularly linked to tourism, job creation and sustainability in the first place; followed by research on the demographic and economic effects of new craft products and processes on rural areas; and those that consider crafts as a factor to mitigate poverty in the rural world. Therefore, the concept of handicrafts as a source of livelihood for poor rural regions is primarily emphasized.RRREMAKER. The multifaceted roles of gasdermins in cancer biology and oncologic therapies

The involvement of the Gasdermin (GSDM) protein family in cancer and other pathologies is one of the hottest topics in biomedical research. There are six GSDMs in humans (GSDMA, B, C, D, GSDME/DFNA5 and PJVK/DFNB59) and, except PJVK, they can trigger cell death mostly by pyroptosis (a form of lytic and pro-inflammatory cell death) but also other mechanisms. The exact role of GSDMs in cancer is intricate, since depending on the biological context, these proteins have diverse cell-death dependent and independent functions, exhibit either pro-tumor or anti-tumor functions, and promote either sensitization or resistance to oncologic treatments. In this review we provide a comprehensive overview on the multifaceted roles of the GSDMs in cancer, and we critically discuss the possibilities of exploiting GSDM functions as determinants of anti-cancer treatment and as novel therapeutic targets, with special emphasis on innovative GSDM-directed nano-therapies. Finally, we discuss the issues to be resolved before GSDM-mediated oncologic therapies became a reality at the clinical levelThis study was supported by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovaci´on (PID2019-104644RB-I00 -GMB-), the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (CIBERONC, CB16/12/00295 –GMB-; partly supported by FEDER funds) and by the Fundaci´on Científica de la AECC (FC_AECC PROYE19036MOR -GMB-

Melomics: A Case-Study of AI in Spain

    Get PDF
Traditionally focused on good old-fashioned AI and robotics, the Spanish AI community holds a vigorous computational intelligence substrate. Neuromorphic, evolutionary, or fuzzylike systems have been developed by many research groups in the Spanish computer sciences. It is no surprise, then, that these naturegrounded efforts start to emerge, enriching the AI catalogue of research projects and publications and, eventually, leading to new directions of basic or applied research. In this article, we review the contribution of Melomics in computational creativity. The work on Iamus was partially supported by grants IPT-300000-2010-010 from the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación and TSI-090302-2011-8 from the Spanish Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio. Effectiveness of Mechanical Horse-Riding Simulators on Postural Balance in Neurological Rehabilitation: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Get PDF
Mechanical horse-riding simulators consist of a device that mimics the movement of a real horse, generating between 50 and 100 three-dimensional physical movements (forward and back, left and right, up and down). The main objective of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of mechanical horse-riding simulators to improve postural balance in subjects with neurological disorders. The search was conducted during January-March 2019 in PubMed, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Cochrane, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Scopus. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated through the PEDro scale. A total of seven articles were included in this systematic review, of which four contributed information to the meta-analysis. Statistical analysis showed favorable results for balance in stroke patients, measured by the Berg Balance Scale (standardized mean difference (SMD) = 3.24; 95%; confidence interval (CI): 1.66-4.83). Not conclusive results were found in sitting postural balance, measured using the Gross Motor Function Measure-66 (GMFM-66) Sitting Dimension, in patients with cerebral palsy. Most studies have shown beneficial effects on postural balance compared with conventional physical therapy. However, due to the limited number of articles and their low methodological quality, no solid conclusions can be drawn about the effectiveness of this therapy

Pitting Corrosion in Austenitic Stainless Steel Water Tanks of Hotel Trains

    Get PDF
The water storage tanks of hotel trains suffered pitting corrosion. To identify the cause, the tanks were subjected to a detailed metallographic study and the chemical composition of the austenitic stainless steels used in their construction was determined. Both the tank water and the corrosion products were further examined by physicochemical and microbiological testing. Corrosion was shown to be related to an incompatibility between the chloride content of the water and the base and filler metals of the tanks. These findings formed the basis of recommendations aimed at the prevention and control of corrosion in such tanks.
