Original Research“Rocha do Oeste” pear is a Portuguese Protected Designation of Origin variety and one of the country’s most relevant fruits for its nutritional value, production area, and exportation amounts. The recent integration of a pilot-scale juice production line brought to SUMOL+COMPAL company the need to characterize the new resulting fractions and value the new by-products. The objective of this work was to value the juice clarification by-products, producing a clean label and fiber-rich snack, in a circular economy rationale, where the secondary products are upcycled back into the food value chain, by creating another food product that includes those by-products. For the above to be possible, the laboratory conditions to produce pear fractions were optimized. After optimizing the puree centrifugation, using response surface methodology (RSM), and optimizing the turbid juice crossflow filtration, the different fractions were characterized in rheological, nutritional, and physical aspects. Comparison to the pulps revealed an increase in the viscosity of the pomace; an enriching effect on the fructose, glucose, and dietary fiber levels in the pomace, and maintenance of the vitamin C levels after centrifugation; and with no effect on the contents of total phenols during the filtration step. A thick pear snack was developed, incorporating retained fraction, inulin, and Euglena gracilis in the pomace, and optimized regarding its firmness and dietary fiber content. The snack characterization revealed an interesting total phenols content (which was maintained from the raw materials). Compared to the snack without microalgae and a commercial fruit snack, the pear snack with E. gracilis was well-accepted by the sensory panel, mainly in texture and appearance, and can be further improved in aroma and flavor. The snack without microalgae was the favorite among the three samples, in most sensory parameters, and never got the answer “I’m sure I wouldn’t buy it.” Therefore, an innovative, clean label and plant-based snack was developed, in a circular economy rationale, which was relatively well-appreciated by the panel. This snack is rich in dietary fiber, having the possibility of presenting various nutritional claims, and the potential for easy sensory optimizationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of different forms of in vitro culture on the nitric oxide action in maturation and membrane integrity on bovine cumulus-oocyte complex. No significant effect was observed between different forms of culture (mineral oil vs plate; P > 0.05), as much for membrane integrity as for expansion of the CC. However, it was observed that oocytes of the groups control and 10-3 M of SNP, cultivated in plate, had presented greater percentage of cell with maintenance of membrane integrity than same treatments cultivated in drop. The addition of 10-3 M of SNP showed an inhibitory effect on the expansion and membrane integrity of CC and oocytes in both, culture in drops under oil and plate (P < 0.05). The culture form did not intervene with the extrusion of the first polar corpuscle and the addition of 10-3 M of SNP inhibited this extrusion in the both systems (P < 0.05). There was a dose-response effect on the concentration of NO in the maturation medium in both types of cultivation (P < 0,05), and this was higher in the culture medium under oil, except when added 10-3 M of SNP, treatment in which there was no difference in the types of cultivation employed.

Developing software IVO for clinical, laboratory, therapeutic and cost data collection for Sickle Cell Anemia

Get PDF
The challenge to improve the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is to plan for managers and health professionals, as well as to estimate the necessary costs. To this end, research should be developed to support the health area, with emphasis on the development of software that complements data collection. For these reasons, the objective of this study is to describe the development of software for the collection of cost information and clinical, laboratory and therapeutic data of patients with SCD, which can be used in the future by other areas of health. This is an experimental and applied research focused on technological production. The applied process model was incremental and followed the steps of communication, planning, modeling and development. The first version is in the testing phase and presents the record format, does not require internet connection, can interact with Windows®, Linux® or MacOS® operating systems and encrypt data for storage. In the next increments, the customization of the fields with a broad structure for data collection; data export in spreadsheet format for use in external tools; creation of customized reports and central database stands out

Measurement of fs /fu Variation with Proton-Proton Collision Energy and B -Meson Kinematics

The ratio of the Bs0 and B+ fragmentation fractions fs and fu is studied with Bs0→J/ψφ and B+→J/ψK+ decays using data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at 7, 8, and 13 TeV center-of-mass energies. The analysis is performed in bins of B-meson momentum, longitudinal momentum, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity, and rapidity. The fragmentation-fraction ratio fs/fu is observed to depend on the B-meson transverse momentum with a significance of 6.0σ. This dependency is driven by the 13 TeV sample (8.7σ), while the results for the other collision energies are not significant when considered separately. Furthermore, the results show a 4.8σ evidence for an increase of fs/fu as a function of collision energy

Observation of a narrow pentaquark state, P-c(4312)(+), and of the two-peak structure of the P-c(4450)(+)

A narrow pentaquark state, P-c(4312)(+), decaying to J/psi p, is discovered with a statistical significance of 7.3 sigma in a data sample of Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decays, which is an order of magnitude larger than that previously analyzed by the LHCb Collaboration. The P-c(4450)(+) pentaquark structure formerly reported by LHCb is confirmed and observed to consist of two narrow overlapping peaks, P-c(4440)(+) and P-c(4457)(+), where the statistical significance of this two-peak interpretation is 5.4 sigma. The proximity of the Sigma(+)(c)(D) over bar (0) and Sigma(+)(c)(D) over bar (*0) thresholds to the observed narrow peaks suggests that they play an important role in the dynamics of these states

A time-dependent analysis of the B 0 s → ϕ γ decay rate is performed to determine the C P -violating observables S ϕ γ and C ϕ γ and the mixing-induced observable A Δ ϕ γ . The measurement is based on a sample of p p collision data recorded with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3     fb − 1 at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The measured values are S ϕ γ = 0.43 ± 0.30 ± 0.11 , C ϕ γ = 0.11 ± 0.29 ± 0.11 , and A Δ ϕ γ = − 0.67 + 0.37 − 0.41 ± 0.17 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This is the first measurement of the observables S and C in radiative B 0 s decays. The results are consistent with the standard model predictions

A measurement of the Ξ++cc mass is performed using data collected by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 fb−1. The Ξ++cc candidates are reconstructed via the decay modes Ξ++cc→Λ+cK−π+π+ and Ξ++cc→Ξ+cπ+. The result, 3621.55 ± 0.23 (stat) ± 0.30 (syst) MeV/c2, is the most precise measurement of the Ξ++cc mass to date
