    Engineering two-mode squeezed states of cold atomic clouds with a superconducting stripline resonator

    A scheme is proposed for engineering two-mode squeezed states of two separated cold atomic clouds positioned near the surface of a superconducting stripline resonator. Based on the coherent magnetic coupling between the atomic spins and a stripline resonator mode, the desired two-mode squeezed state can be produced via precisely control on the dynamics of the system. This scheme may be used to realize scalable on-chip quantum networks with cold atoms coupling to stripline resonators.Comment: To appear in Optics Communications,8pages,2fig

    The Study of Noncollectivity by the Forward-Backward Multiplicity Correlation Function

    We propose a forward-backward multiplicity correlation function CFBNC^N_{FB}, which is experimentally accessible, to measure the noncollectivity contribution. We find that CFBNC^N_{FB} is sensitive to the jet contribution for the particle-rich case. Surprisingly, it will automatically decrease for the particle-rare case. Our study indicates that similar decreasing trend observed previously is mainly driven by particle scarcity instead of jets. The function is studied in Au+Au collision at sNN=200\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200 GeV with a multiphase transport model (AMPT). We find that the jet fraction is about 10% at transverse momentum (pTp_T) around 2.5 GeV/cc and reaches up to 30% at 3.5 GeV/cc. The implication of this study in the investigation of the noncollectivity contribution in elliptic anisotropy parameter v2v_2 is also discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Jet Tomography of Harmonic Fluctuations in the Initial Condition of Heavy Ion Collisions

    In this paper we study the jet response (particularly azimuthal anisotropy) as a hard probe of the harmonic fluctuations in the initial condition of central heavy ion collisions. By implementing the fluctuations via cumulant expansion for various harmonics quantified by ϵn\epsilon_n and using the geometric model for jet energy loss, we compute the response χnh=vn/ϵn\chi^h_n=v_n/\epsilon_n. Combining these results with the known hydrodynamic response of the bulk matter expansion in the literature, we show that the hard-soft azimuthal correlation arising from their respective responses to the common geometric fluctuations reveals a robust and narrow near-side peak that may provide the dominant contribution to the "hard-ridge" observed in experimental data.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures; important updates for figures and table in version 2; some references adde

    Probing the dynamics of an optically trapped particle by phase sensitive back focal plane interferometry

    The dynamics of an optically trapped particle are often determined by measuring intensity shifts of the back-scattered light from the particle using position sensitive detectors. We present a technique which measures the phase of the back-scattered light using balanced detection in an external Mach-Zender interferometer scheme where we separate out and beat the scattered light from the bead and that from the top surface of our trapping chamber. The technique has improved axial motion resolution over intensity-based detection, and can also be used to measure lateral motion of the trapped particle. In addition, we are able to track the Brownian motion of trapped 1 and 3 μ\mum diameter beads from the phase jitter and show that, similar to intensity-based measurements, phase measurements can also be used to simultaneously determine displacements of the trapped bead as well as the spring constant of the trap. For lateral displacements, we have matched our experimental results with a simulation of the overall phase contour of the back-scattered light for lateral displacements by using plane wave decomposition in conjunction with Mie scattering theory. The position resolution is limited by path drifts of the interferometer which we have presently reduced to obtain a displacement resolution of around 2 nm for 1.1 μ\mum diameter probes by locking the interferometer to a frequency stabilized diode laser.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure

    Single-atom entropy squeezing for two two-level atoms interacting with a single-mode radiation field

    In this paper we consider a system of two two-level atoms interacting with a single-mode quantized electromagnetic field in a lossless resonant cavity via ll-photon-transition mechanism. The field and the atoms are initially prepared in the coherent state and the excited atomic states, respectively. For this system we investigate the entropy squeezing, the atomic variances, the von Neumann entropy and the atomic inversions for the single-atom case. We show that the more the number of the parties in the system the less the amounts of the nonclassical effects exhibited in the entropy squeezing. The entropy squeezing can give information on the corresponding von Neumann entropy. Also the nonclassical effects obtained form the asymmetric atoms are greater than those obtained form the symmetric atoms. Finally, the entropy squeezing gives better information than the atomic variances only for the asymmetric atoms.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, comments are most welcom

    Development of novel chiral capillary electrophoresis methods for the serotonin receptor (5-HT2A) antagonist MDL 100,907 (volinanserin) and for its key intermediate compound

    Enantioselective capillary electrophoretic methods were elaborated for the determination of the enantiomeric purity of (R)-MDL 100,907 and its preparatively resolved key intermediate compound during the synthesis route. The pKa values of the intermediate compound and the end product determined by CE were 10.5±0.1 and 9.0±0.1, respectively. The enantiopurity of the intermediate compound can be monitored in fully protonated state by applying 15mM sulfobutylether-β-cyclodextrin at pH 5 when the peak belonging to the impurity migrates before the main component. The fact that the consecutive steps of the synthesis do not affect the enantiomeric purity was verified by the other, newly developed CE method. The enantiomers of rac-MDL 100,907 were resolved by 15mM carboxymethyl-γ-cyclodextrin at pH 3. The applicability (selectivity, LOD, LOQ, repeatability, precision and accuracy) of the methods was studied as well

    Olfactory sensitivity of the marine flatfish Solea senegalensis to conspecific body fluids

    Chemical communication is better understood in freshwater fish than marine fish. The Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) is a marine flatfish wherein one of the problems in aquaculture is the poor reproductive performance of hatchery-bred males. Is chemical communication involved in the reproduction of this species? Urine, intestinal fluid and mucus samples were taken from adult fish (wild-caught and hatchery-bred) over the spawning season (March-May), and assessed for olfactory potency using the electro-olfactogram (EOG). The effect of stimulation of the olfactory system with adult female urine on circulating luteinizing hormone (LH) levels was also tested in males. Intestinal fluid and urine were potent olfactory stimuli for both juvenile and adult conspecifics, evoking large-amplitude, concentration-dependent EOG responses, with thresholds of detection at approximately 1:10(6). However, the amplitude of the response to urine depended on the sex and state of maturity of both the donor and the receiver. Most olfactory activity could be extracted by C18 solid-phase cartridges. Urine from mature females evoked a slight, but significant, increase in circulating LH levels in mature males 30 min after exposure. Furthermore, the olfactory potency of urine differed between wild-caught and hatchery-bred fish; however, contrary to expectations, urine from wild-caught females was less potent than that from hatchery-bred females.
