Spiritual Ecofeminism: ‘‘Healing the Earth’’ with Starhawk’s Work

[Abstract] Starhawk (Miriam Simos) is the author of The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess (1979) and The Earth Path: Grounding your Spirit in the Rhythms of Nature (2004). This MA thesis examines Starhawk’s theories within the framework of ecofeminism and evaluates her contributions to the genre of spiritual ecofeminist essays. It aims to assess the distinctiveness of her writings within the broader field of ecofeminist literature, drawing upon the insights of critics such as Maria Mies, Vandana Shiva, Greta Gaard, Carol P. Christ, and Ariel Salleh, among other contributors. Employing a comprehensive methodology that combines literary analysis, feminist theory, and interdisciplinary research, this study explores the intricate connections between feminism, spirituality, and environmentalism in Starhawk’s works. This MA thesis is structured into two main parts, each serving a distinct purpose. The first part focuses on essential definitions and aspects related to the development of the thesis, while the second is dedicated to the analysis of Starhawk’s works, exploring concepts such as the witch, the Goddess1 and rituals. Through a critical examination of Starhawk’s writings, this section delves into the profound connections between feminist spirituality, ecological consciousness, and the socially-engaged themes in her works. Through this comprehensive analysis, the research paper reaches intriguing conclusions. Fiabilitat de les proves de força en salt vertical i velocitat de cursa en escolars de 6 a 8 anys

L'objectiu del present estudi va ser determinar la fiabilitat de diverses proves de salt vertical i de cursa ràpida en escolars de 6 a 8 anys. Van participar 56 subjectes de tots dos sexes (30 nenes i 26 nens), d'edats compreses entre 6 i 8 anys, seleccionats aleatòriament entre els d'un mateix centre escolar, als quals es va administrar una bateria de proves de força de salt vertical sobre plataforma de contactes (SJ, CMJ, CMJA i 1RJ) i de cursa ràpida (30 m) en dues ocasions (T1 i T2), amb una setmana d'interval entre totes dues. Es va estudiar la reproductibilitat entre repeticions (variabilitat intraindividual) per a cada una de les dues sessions de valoració (T1, T2) i la variabilitat temporal (entre T1 i T2), mitjançant el càlcul de diferents estadístics (coeficient de variació, CV; coeficient de correlació intraclasse, CCI; error metòdic, EM) i de la seva significació estadística. La reproductibilitat entre repeticions de les proves de salt vertical CMJ i 1RJ es va demostrar elevada (CCI ³ 0,95) en ambdues sessions. En la segona sessió de valoració també ho va ser la reproductibilitat d'SJ, mentre que CMJA es va mantenir a nivells inacceptables (CCI = 0,69-0,80). La variabilitat entre subjectes es va mostrar força més elevada que en estudiants d'educació física adults (CV = 8,3-11,8%). La reproductibilitat temporal (dia a dia, entre dues sessions separades per una setmana) de les proves pot considerar-se qüestionable en termes generals; s'hi observa un elevat error metòdic (EM = 9,9-15,1%) i un empitjorament significatiu dels resultats en la segona sessió en les proves de salt amb contramoviment (CMJ i CMJA) i de cursa ràpida de 30 m (p £ 0,05). Spanish wind legal framework: to the environmental advance from the Galician case?

Durante las últimas dos décadas, las energías renovables han tenido un papel importante en el sistema mundial de energía, sobre todo en el desarrollo de la energía eólica. Estados Unidos, China y la Unión Europea se encuentran a la cabeza en cuanto al desarrollo de energía eólica instalada, encontrándose España en un nivel destacado y, especialmente, la región de Galicia. Sin embargo, esta expansión no estuvo exenta de polémica debido a la falta de transparencia en el proceso administrativo para la implantación de un parque eólico. En España el sector eólico se desarrolló sin un marco normativo integral que permitiera la participación de todos los agentes, como había sucedido en países como Dinamarca, Holanda y Alemania. La ausencia de un marco normativo completo retrasó la evolución del sector eólico en Galicia y dio lugar a varias denuncias ante los tribunales de justicia. En este trabajo analizamos las normas que regulaban el sector eólico en Galicia en el período 1995-2010, para determinar los posibles desarrollos en la regulación, en particular en las cuestiones ambientales.During the last two decades, the renewable energies have got a main role in the world energy system, overall the development of wind energy. In this way, United States, China and the European Union have reached the leaders positions of instaled wind capacity, being Spain on a prominent level and specially, the region of Galicia. However, this expansion was not without controversy because social acceptance depends on the transparency of the administrative process for the implementation of a wind farm, the reversion of citizenship or benefits on the valuation of forest land where they are located. In Spain the wind sector evolved under markedly productivist public policy, stationing himself by not defining a comprehensive regulatory framework that would allow participation and defense of all participating agents, as had happened in countries such as Denmark, Holland and Germany. The absence of comprehensive regulatory framework that has been a defining feature of the wind farm in Galicia advance, which slowed the evolution of the sector and resulted in several complaints to the courts of justice. We analyze the rules that regulated the wind sector in Galicia in the period 1995-2010, to determine the possible developments in the regulation, particularly on environmental issues.peerReviewe

Selección de carteras y diversificación eficiente. Índice de Treynor y frontera eficiente de Markowitz: Cálculo y aplicación práctica en el Ibex 35

EL objetivo de este trabajo es formar una cartera eficiente con la mejor combinación de activos del IBEX35, donde se pueda analizar para qué niveles de riesgo se obtiene la mayor rentabilidad y para qué nivel de rentabilidad se obtiene el mínimo nivel de riesgo. Para ello se utiliza el modelo de Markowitz de 1952 que constituye la base de la denominada Teoría de Carteras. A partir de este modelo se obtiene cuál es la mejor cartera posible, definida en los términos de eficiencia descritos anteriormente de rentabilidad y riesgo. Este análisis se realiza con el conjunto de activos con riesgo que forman parte del índice bursátil del mercado español IBEX 35. A partir de estos activos se determinan cuáles son los activos idóneos para la formación de la cartera a través del Índice o Ratio de Treynor y la proporción en que deben combinarse. Este trabajo aporta una información muy útil para invertir en el mercado español formando una cartera con la mejor combinación posible de activos del IBEX35. Con estos cálculos el inversor o el gestor de fondos podrá estudiar los resultados para seleccionar los títulos en los que invertir y con qué proporción de cada título formar una cartera eficientemente, con el riesgo que el inversor esté dispuesto a asumir. De forma que el inversor obtendrá la máxima rentabilidad posible acorde con ese riesgo.Grado en Administración y Dirección de Empresa

The Network of Dominant Owners of Wind Development in Galicia (Spain) (1995–2017): An Approach Using Power Structure Analysis

This article identifies and characterizes the network of dominant businesses which owned wind farms in Galicia (Spain) from 1995 to 2017. This research contributes to reduce the research gap about identifying the investment groups involved and to appreciate the real size of the wind sector. The novelty of the research lies in identifying the network of real owners of wind farms through the application of Domhoff’s power structure analysis, normally used in the analysis of the power structure of corporations and political institutions. With this method, it is possible to observe how the individual wind farm companies are assessed as well as the matrix company, and/or the principal shareholders to which the farm belongs are identified. The article shows that the installed wind power in Galicia is owned by large energy firms with the participation of international investment funds as well, even though the smaller number of local companies in the sector were given favored status under the existing regulations. This study concludes that although there is no single worldwide model for wind promotion, a network of dominant owners has been formed, and that this network consists of energy companies, investment funds, financial institutions, and construction firms. It can be surmised that if the capital were of mostly Galician origin, this would facilitate a bigger reinvestment of the profits in the regionS

A mathematical model for the rational design of chimeric ligands in selective drug therapies

Chimeric drugs with selective potential toward specific cell types constitute one of the most promising forefronts of modern Pharmacology. We present a mathematical model to test and optimize these synthetic constructs, as an alternative to conventional empirical design. We take as a case study a chimeric construct composed of epidermal growth factor (EGF) linked to different mutants of interferon (IFN). Our model quantitatively reproduces all the experimental results, illustrating how chimeras using mutants of IFN with reduced affinity exhibit enhanced selectivity against cell overexpressing EGF receptor. We also investigate how chimeric selectivity can be improved based on the balance between affinity rates, receptor abundance, activity of ligand subunits, and linker length between subunits. The simplicity and generality of the model facilitate a straightforward application to other chimeric constructs, providing a quantitative systematic design and optimization of these selective drugs against certain cell-based diseases, such as Alzheimer's and cancerThis work has been supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Spain via a Ramon y Cajal Fellowship (Ref.
