Bosonic description of a Tomonaga-Luttinger model with impurities
We extend a recently proposed non-local version of Coleman's equivalence
between the Thirring and sine-Gordon models to the case in which the original
fermion fields interact with fixed impurities. We explain how our results can
be used in the context of one-dimensional strongly correlated systems (the so
called Tomonaga-Luttinger model) to study the dependence of the charge-density

Estimates for the Sobolev trace constant with critical exponent and applications
In this paper we find estimates for the optimal constant in the critical
Sobolev trace inequality S\|u\|^p_{L^{p_*}(\partial\Omega) \hookrightarrow
\|u\|^p_{W^{1,p}(\Omega)} that are independent of . This estimates
generalized those of [3] for general . Here is the
critical exponent for the immersion and is the space dimension. Then we
apply our results first to prove existence of positive solutions to a nonlinear
elliptic problem with a nonlinear boundary condition with critical growth on
the boundary, generalizing the results of [16]. Finally, we study an optimal

Chaotic image encryption using hopfield and hindmarsh–rose neurons implemented on FPGA
Chaotic systems implemented by artificial neural networks are good candidates for data encryption. In this manner, this paper introduces the cryptographic application of the Hopfield and the Hindmarsh–Rose neurons. The contribution is focused on finding suitable coefficient values of the neurons to generate robust random binary sequences that can be used in image encryption. This task is performed by evaluating the bifurcation diagrams from which one chooses appropriate coefficient values of the mathematical models that produce high positive Lyapunov exponent and Kaplan–Yorke dimension values, which are computed using TISEAN. The randomness of both the Hopfield and the Hindmarsh–Rose neurons is evaluated from chaotic time series data by performing National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) tests. The implementation of both neurons is done using field-programmable gate arrays whose architectures are used to develop an encryption system for RGB images. The success of the encryption system is confirmed by performing correlation, histogram, variance, entropy, and Number of Pixel Change Rate (NPCR) tests
Vitamin A affects flatfish development in a thyroid hormone signaling and metamorphic stage dependent manner
Vitamin A (VA) and retinoid derivatives are known morphogens controlling vertebrate development. Despite the research effort conducted during the last decade, the precise mechanism of how VA induces post-natal bone changes, and particularly those operating through crosstalk with the thyroid hormones (THs) remain to be fully understood. Since effects and mechanisms seem to be dose and time-dependent, flatfish are an interesting study model as they undergo a characteristic process of metamorphosis driven by THs that can be followed by external appearance. Here, we studied the effects of VA imbalance that might determine Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) skeletogenetic phenotype through development of thyroid follicles, THs homeostasis and signaling when a dietary VA excess was specifically provided during pre-, pro-or post-metamorphic stages using enriched rotifers and Artemia as carriers. The increased VA content in enriched live prey was associated to a higher VA content in fish at all developmental stages. Dietary VA content clearly affected thyroid follicle development, T3 and T4 immunoreactive staining, skeletogenesis and mineralization in a dose and time-dependent fashion. Gene expression analysis showed that VA levels modified the mRNA abundance of VA- and TH-specific nuclear receptors at specific developmental stages. Present results provide new and key knowledge to better understand how VA and TH pathways interact at tissue, cellular and nuclear level at different developmental periods in Senegalese sole, unveiling how dietary modulation might determine juvenile phenotype and physiology.Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) of the Spanish Government [AGL2005-02478]; [SFRH/BPD/82049/2011]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Open-charm meson spectroscopy
We present a theoretical framework that accounts for the new and
mesons measured in the open-charm sector. These resonances are
properly described if considered as a mixture of conventional wave
quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. The narrowest states are
basically wave quark-antiquark mesons, while the dominantly four-quark
states are shifted above the corresponding two-meson threshold, being broad
resonances. We study the electromagnetic decay widths as basic tools to
scrutiny their nature. The proposed explanation incorporates in a natural way

Transformation Optics Approach to Plasmon-Exciton Strong Coupling in Nanocavities
We investigate the conditions yielding plasmon-exciton strong coupling at the
single emitter level in the gap between two metal nanoparticles. A
quasi-analytical transformation optics approach is developed that makes
possible a thorough exploration of this hybrid system incorporating the full
richness of its plasmonic spectrum. This allows us to reveal that by placing
the emitter away from the cavity center, its coupling to multipolar dark modes
of both even and odd parity increases remarkably. This way, reversible dynamics
in the population of the quantum emitter takes place in feasible
implementations of this archetypal nanocavity.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
A characterization of the multivariate excess wealth ordering
In this paper, some new properties of the upper-corrected orthant of a random vector are proved. The univariate right-spread or excess wealth function, introduced by Fernández-Ponce et al. (1996), is extended to multivariate random vectors, and some properties of this multivariate function are studied. Later, this function was used to define the excess wealth ordering by Shaked and Shanthikumar (1998) and Fernández-Ponce et al. (1998). The multivariate excess wealth function enable us to define a new stochastic comparison which is weaker than the multivariate dispersion orderings. On the improvement of the low energy neutrino factory
The low energy neutrino factory has been proposed as a very sensitive setup
for future searches for CP violation and matter effects. Here we study how its
performance is affected when the experimental specifications of the setup are
varied. Most notably, we have considered the addition of the 'platinum' nu_{mu}
-> nu_{e} channel. We find that, whilst theoretically the extra channel
provides very useful complementary information and helps to lift degeneracies,
its practical usefulness is lost when considering realistic background levels.
Conversely, an increase in statistics in the 'golden' nu_{e} -> nu_{mu} channel
and, to some extent, an improvement in the energy resolution, lead to an
important increase in the performance of the facility, given the rich energy
dependence of the 'golden' channel at these energies. We show that a low energy
neutrino factory with a baseline of 1300 km, muon energy of 4.5 GeV, and either
a 20 kton totally active scintillating detector or 100 kton liquid argon
detector, can have outstanding sensitivity to the neutrino oscillation
parameters theta13, delta and the mass hierarchy. For our estimated exposure of
2.8 x 10^{23} kton x decays per muon polarity, the low energy neutrino factory
has sensitivity to theta13 and delta for sin^{2}(2theta13) > 10^{-4} and to the
mass hierarchy for sin^{2}(2theta13) > 10^{-3}.Comment: 13 pages, 8 eps figures. Version published in PRD - experimental
