Complexation between oleanolic and maslinic acids with native and modified cyclodextrins

    Get PDF
Oleanolic (OA) and maslinic (MA) acids are two natural triterpenoids with a wide range of beneficial effects for human health. However, their low solubility and permeability make their application in the food or industry difficult. The complexation of OA and MA with alpha- beta-, gamma-, HP-alpha-, HP-beta- and HP-gamma-CDs under different pH and temperature conditions has been studied. Neither alpha- nor HP-alpha-CDs formed inclusion complexes, while beta-, HP-beta- and HP-gamma-CDs provided AL type and gamma-CDs BS phase solubility diagrams. Complexation was shown to be more stable in the case of MA but complexation efficiency was greater for OA. Increasing the pH and temperature of the complexation media tended to improve the complexation process with triterpenic acids.Agencia de Ciencia y Tecnología de la Región de Murcia under the project PFEseneca/06/10Ciencias de la Alimentació

    Sub-arcsecond Morphology of Planetary Nebulae

Planetary nebulae (PNe) can be roughly categorized into several broad morphological classes. The high quality images of PNe acquired in recent years, however, have revealed a wealth of fine structures that preclude simplistic models for their formation. Here we present narrow-band, sub-arcsecond images of a sample of relatively large PNe that illustrate the complexity and variety of small-scale structures. This is especially true for bipolar PNe, for which the images reveal multi-polar ejections and, in some cases, suggest turbulent gas motions. Our images also reveal the presence or signs of jet-like outflows in several objects in which this kind of component has not been previously reported.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, Accepted for publication in PAS

Unveiling the structure of the planetary nebula M 2-48: Kinematics and physical conditions

    Get PDF
The kinematics and physical conditions of the bipolar planetary nebula M 2-48 are analysed from high and low dispersion long-slit spectra. Previous CCD narrow-band optical observations have suggested that this nebula is mainly formed by a pair of symmetric bow-shocks, an off-center semi-circular shell, and an internal bipolar structure. The bipolar outflow has a complex structure, characterised by a series of shocked regions located between the bright core and the polar tips. There is an apparent kinematic discontinuity between the bright bipolar core and the outer regions. The fragmented ring around the bright bipolar region presents a low expansion velocity and could be associated to ejection in the AGB-PN transition phase, although its nature remains unclear. The chemical abundances of the central region are derived, showing that M 2-48 is a Type I planetary nebula (PN)

The triple-shell structure and collimated outflows of the planetary nebula NGC 6891

Narrow-band Hα\alpha and [N {\sc ii}] images and high-dispersion spatially-resolved echelle spectroscopy of the planetary nebula NGC 6891 are presented. These observations show a great wealth of structures. The bright central nebula is surrounded by an attached shell and a detached outer halo. Both the inner and intermediate shells can be described as ellipsoids with similar major to minor axial ratios, but different spatial orientations. The kinematical ages of the intermediate shell and halo are 4,800 and 28,000 years, respectively. The inter-shell time lapse is in good agreement with the evolutionary inter-pulse time lapse. A highly collimated outflow is observed to protrude from the tips of the major axis of the inner nebula and impact on the outer edge of the intermediate shell. Kinematics and excitation of this outflow provide conclusive evidence that it is deflected during the interaction with the outer edge of the intermediate shell. At the same time, both the kinematics and the morphology of the intermediate shell appear to be affected by this interaction.Comment: To be published in MNRAS, 9 pages, 5 figure

The Consueta (customary rules) of Girona Cathedral is a document that describes in great detail all the liturgical ceremonies of this church. There are different versions of this document; the oldest one is the Consueta Ecclesiae Gerundensis, written in the 14th century. This article will focus on the description of the festivity of Saint Narcissus, patron of Girona, as presented in the Consueta of 1595-1655, a significant source of information that supplies documentary evidence about the musical and ceremonial activity in the city. The liturgical content of the Consueta is presented within the urban ceremonial context of that time

An Anomaly Detection Process for a Business Solution

    Get PDF
In this work, a business solution’s implemented using machine learning algorithms. The solution consists of a particular realistic case of a corporation where the financial department has struggled to evaluate large quantities of information to capture cost irregularities from its external suppliers’ billing process. The design of this solution is to solve three critical problems from the business, a tool that detects the anomalies in an automated fashion that helps the increase savings reducing the number of experts who are currently needed only to detect the anomalies. Implement unsupervised machine learning methods that allow a massive tagging of the data due to the current lack of labels in the information. Apply a method whose results are validated and reviewed by the business Subject Matter Experts, a.k.a. SMEs for use. A process that simulates the expert’s classification is generated, using a method that allows us to tag the historical data and accelerate the SMEs’ manual labeling. The overall workflow consists of five different phases, where first gather the information from the organization into a single database from where the feature transformation and selection are applied. Once the characteristics are defined and ready to use, the process continues with the unsupervised training using a probabilistic method that provides us with the massive tagging of our binary classification. The labeled dataset is then shared with the business experts for a review and feedback process in which they provide us the correct classification for the observations that went into the model. Finally, the data is inputted into a supervised algorithm selected through a fixed accuracy threshold and contamination rate. Using these parameters as conditions, the model that adjusts better than the probabilistic unsupervised approach is then selected. When the criteria are met, the model is deployed to a production environment for user consultation
