This paper analyzes the development of the Iberian and Roman settlement between the 5th BC-3rd AD centuries in the South-east of the Iberian Peninsula, and in particular in the area of Coy, Avilés and Doña Inés in Lorca (Murcia, Spain). The area is known for decades because of the important sites located there, however there are not specific specific and diachronic studies about the occupation during the Iberian period and its transformation with the Roman presence in the South-east and in Carthago Nova. This area is particularly interesting because of the archaeological findings, the large number of sites located here and its key position between Andalusia, Lorca and the North-west of Murcia. Through the analysis of the Iberian and Roman sites and the material data we accomplish a first diachronic study of settlement in the area during these centuries

This paper explores the settlement patterns in the Iberian southeast, in particular in the valleys of the Quípar and the Guadalentín rivers, during the 5th BC-2nd century AC. It presents for the first time a global, diachronic and comparative analysis of the Iron Age and Roman sites in the southern area of Murcia, approaching the territorial dynamics which defined its transformation during those centuries. All the archaeological information of these territories (202 sites) has been compiled, reviewed and analysed through a Geographic Information System, along with those data relative to the spatial context of the sites (roads, lands and natural resources, traditional and historic environmental exploitation, etc.). On the one hand, these data allow us to outline the evolution of this area from a long-term perspective which the regional studies lack; on the other hand, they contribute to insert this southern area within the processes defined in the nearby territories during these centuries, such as Alicante and Andalucía.

    Dealing with the Outside

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to analyse some strategies of power, social control and legitimation during the Iberian Late Iron Age (6th–1st centuries BC). It addresses how the Iberian elites exploited the domain of the ‘outside’ to legitimise and to retain their status. A diachronic approach is presented seeking to analyse the role of the outside realm throughout all the examined period and the variety of its expressions within the Iberian societies. In particular, the paper focuses on the south-east of Spain, an area with a rich archaeological record which, however, have never been approached from this view

VÍAS DE COMUNICACIÓN NATURALES, TRADICIONALES E HISTÓRICAS CON EL MUNDO GRANADINO A TRAVÉS DEL NOROESTE MURCIANO

The Northwest of Murcia is one of the most important routes of union with the region of Andalusia cause of his location and his geography. The analysis of the natural, historic, traditional and cattle routes reveals the importance of the basin of the Quípar as route of communication along the centuries. The archaeological data reveal the important role of this route since prehistoric times and especially during the Iberian period as it is showed by the dispersion of the material and the settlements located in this area. After the apparent decline of this route during the Roman age, the documentary sources and the accounts of travellers reflect its renewed importance in medieval and modern times.

The ‘Cerro del Castillo’ of Lorca is one of the most important and unknown Iberian sites of the Region of Murcia, in theIberian Southeast. The aim of this paper is to analyze diachronically this site through the data provided by the archaeologicalworks carried out and, beyond the recovered material culture, to offer a first approach to the socio-political andeconomic role of this settlement in the landscape of the Guadalentín valley, placing it in the historical dynamics of theIberian Southeast between the 5th century B.C. and the 1st century A.D.El presente trabajo aborda un análisis diacrónico del Cerro del Castillo de Lorca, uno de los yacimientos ibéricos másimportantes pero también más desconocidos del Sureste peninsular.

[Abstract] Introduction: Non-infectious uveitis include a heterogeneous group of sight-threatening and incapacitating conditions. Their correct management sometimes requires the use of immunosuppressive drugs (ISDs), prescribed in monotherapy or in combination. Several observational studies showed that the use of ISDs in combination could be more effective than and as safe as their use in monotherapy. However, a direct comparison between these two treatment strategies has not been carried out yet. Methods and analysis: The Combination THerapy with mEthotrexate and adalImumAb for uveitis (CoTHEIA) study is a phase III, multicentre, prospective, randomised, single-blinded with masked outcome assessment, parallel three arms with 1:1:1 allocation, active-controlled, superiority study design, comparing the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of methotrexate, adalimumab or their combination in non-infectious non-anterior uveitis. We aim to recruit 192 subjects. The duration of the treatment and follow-up will last up to 52 weeks, plus 70 days follow-up with no treatment. The complete and maintained resolution of the ocular inflammation will be assessed by masked evaluators (primary outcome). In addition to other secondary measurements of efficacy (quality of life, visual acuity and costs) and safety, we will identify subjects’ subgroups with different treatment responses by developing prediction models based on machine learning techniques using genetic and proteomic biomarkers. Ethics and dissemination: The protocol, annexes and informed consent forms were approved by the Reference Clinical Research Ethic Committee at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos (Madrid, Spain) and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products. We will elaborate a dissemination plan including production of materials adapted to several formats to communicate the clinical trial progress and findings to a broad group of stakeholders. The promoter will be the only access to the participant-level data, although it can be shared within the legal situation. Trial registration number: 2020-000130-18; NCT04798755.This work was supported by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, grant number [ICI19/00020]. Sponsor: Fundación para la Investigacion Biomédica del Hospital Clínico San Carlos. Executive Committee: Administrative and executive arm of the clinical trial, providing overall oversight for the study and making decisions on day-to-day operational issues (Study Coordinator (Luis Rodriguez-Rodriguez), a representative from the Spanish Clinical Trial Network (Amanda López Picado), and 5 Site Directors (these seats will be rotatory, with changes every 6 months months)); Data Coordinating and Analysis Committee: Supervising data collection, management and quality control, designing the statistical analysis plan, performing unmasked data analysis and preparing interim and final reports for the Data Security Monitoring Board and the Executy Committee (Study Coordinator (Luis Rodriguez-Rodriguez), a representative from the Spanish Clinical Trial Network (Amanda López Picado) and Ester Carreño); Biobank and Biomarker Identification Committee (Maintaining an up-to-date manual of operations for blood extraction, processing and storage, and monitoring procedures adherence, supervising biological sample collection, sample shipment coordination, coordinating the phamacogenetic and proteomic analysis (Study Coordinator (Luis Rodriguez-Rodriguez), a representative from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III Biobank Platform (Elena Molino), a representative the Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de A Coruña, a representative from, the Data Coordinating and Analysis Committee); Data Security Monitoring Committee (PierGiogio Neri, Andrew Dick, Loreto Carmona

This study approaches the Iberian and Roman settlements (IV Century BC.-II Century AD) in the area of Barranda and Archivel, in the Spanish region of Murcia. The already known sites are revised (their location, archaeological record, chronology, etc.), and the interesting details provided by the latest archaeological works are presented. Analysing these sites helps identify initial aspects of the settlement dynamics in this Southeastern Iberian region. The goal is to present a global picture of the Iberian and Roman settlements in this area, framing the development of the Archivel and Barranda castella and the interesting Iberian necropolis of El Villar
