Theory of mind and social judgments in people at clinical high risk of psychosis
Social cognitive deficits are consistently reported in psychotic populations. Few studies have longitudinally investigated social cognition in clinical high-risk (CHR) populations
Assessment of social judgments and complex mental states in the early phases of psychosis
Social cognition plays an important role in the functioning of individuals with psychosis. In this study, we explored two areas of social cognition not previously investigated early in the course of psychosis

Refining the Stellar Parameters of Ceti: a Pole-on Solar Analog
To accurately characterize the planets a star may be hosting, stellar
parameters must first be well-determined. Ceti is a nearby solar analog
and often a target for exoplanet searches. Uncertainties in the observed
rotational velocities have made constraining Ceti's inclination
difficult. For planet candidates from radial velocity (RV) observations, this
leads to substantial uncertainties in the planetary masses, as only the minimum
mass () can be constrained with RV. In this paper, we used new
long-baseline optical interferometric data from the CHARA Array with the MIRC-X
beam combiner and extreme precision spectroscopic data from the Lowell
Discovery Telescope with EXPRES to improve constraints on the stellar
parameters of Ceti. Additional archival data were obtained from a
Tennessee State University Automatic Photometric Telescope and the Mount Wilson
Observatory HK project. These new and archival data sets led to improved
stellar parameter determinations, including a limb-darkened angular diameter of
mas and rotation period of days. By combining
parameters from our data sets, we obtained an estimate for the stellar
inclination of . This nearly-pole-on orientation has implications
for the previously-reported exoplanets. An analysis of the system dynamics
suggests that the planetary architecture described by Feng et al. (2017) may
not retain long-term stability for low orbital inclinations. Additionally, the
inclination of Ceti reveals a misalignment between the inclinations of
the stellar rotation axis and the previously-measured debris disk rotation axis

The relations of age and pubertal development with cortisol and daily stress in youth at clinical risk for psychosis
Prodromal syndromes often begin in adolescence – a period of neurodevelopmental changes and heightened stress sensitivity. Research has shown elevated stress and cortisol in individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis. This cross-sectional study examined relations of age and pubertal status with cortisol and self-reported stress in healthy controls (HCs) and CHR adolescents. It was hypothesized that the relations of age and pubertal stage with cortisol and stress would be more pronounced in CHR youth
Functional Capacity Assessed by the Map Task in Individuals at Clinical High-Risk for Psychosis
Recent studies have recognized that signs of functional disability in schizophrenia are evident in early phases of the disorder, and, as a result, can potentially serve as vulnerability markers of future illness. However, functional measures in the psychosis prodrome have focused exclusively on real-world achievements, rather than on the skills required to carry-out a particular real-world function (ie, capacity). Despite growing evidence that diminished capacity is critical to the etiology of the established disorder, virtually no attention has been directed towards assessing functional capacity in the pre-illness stages. In the present study, we introduce the Map task, a measure to assess functional capacity in adolescent and young-adult high-risk populations
First Case of Bioterrorism-Related Inhalational Anthrax in the United States, Palm Beach County, Florida, 2001
On October 4, 2001, we confirmed the first bioterrorism-related anthrax case identified in the United States in a resident of Palm Beach County, Florida. Epidemiologic investigation indicated that exposure occurred at the workplace through intentionally contaminated mail. One additional case of inhalational anthrax was identified from the index patient’s workplace. Among 1,076 nasal cultures performed to assess exposure, Bacillus anthracis was isolated from a co-worker later confirmed as being infected, as well as from an asymptomatic mail-handler in the same workplace. Environmental cultures for B. anthracis showed contamination at the workplace and six county postal facilities. Environmental and nasal swab cultures were useful epidemiologic tools that helped direct the investigation towards the infection source and transmission vehicle. We identified 1,114 persons at risk and offered antimicrobial prophylaxis
Chemo- and Regioselective Lysine Modification on Native Proteins.
Site-selective chemical conjugation of synthetic molecules to proteins expands their functional and therapeutic capacity. Current protein modification methods, based on synthetic and biochemical technologies, can achieve site selectivity, but these techniques often require extensive sequence engineering or are restricted to the N- or C-terminus. Here we show the computer-assisted design of sulfonyl acrylate reagents for the modification of a single lysine residue on native protein sequences. This feature of the designed sulfonyl acrylates, together with the innate and subtle reactivity differences conferred by the unique local microenvironment surrounding each lysine, contribute to the observed regioselectivity of the reaction. Moreover, this site selectivity was predicted computationally, where the lysine with the lowest p Ka was the kinetically favored residue at slightly basic pH. Chemoselectivity was also observed as the reagent reacted preferentially at lysine, even in those cases when other nucleophilic residues such as cysteine were present. The reaction is fast and proceeds using a single molar equivalent of the sulfonyl acrylate reagent under biocompatible conditions (37 °C, pH 8.0). This technology was demonstrated by the quantitative and irreversible modification of five different proteins including the clinically used therapeutic antibody Trastuzumab without prior sequence engineering. Importantly, their native secondary structure and functionality is retained after the modification. This regioselective lysine modification method allows for further bioconjugation through aza-Michael addition to the acrylate electrophile that is generated by spontaneous elimination of methanesulfinic acid upon lysine labeling. We showed that a protein-antibody conjugate bearing a site-specifically installed fluorophore at lysine could be used for selective imaging of apoptotic cells and detection of Her2+ cells, respectively. This simple, robust method does not require genetic engineering and may be generally used for accessing diverse, well-defined protein conjugates for basic biology and therapeutic studies
The state of the Martian climate
60°N was +2.0°C, relative to the 1981–2010 average value (Fig. 5.1). This marks a new high for the record. The average annual surface air temperature (SAT) anomaly for 2016 for land stations north of starting in 1900, and is a significant increase over the previous highest value of +1.2°C, which was observed in 2007, 2011, and 2015. Average global annual temperatures also showed record values in 2015 and 2016. Currently, the Arctic is warming at more than twice the rate of lower latitudes
