Observation of a 1750 MeV/c^2 Enhancement in the Diffractive Photoproduction of K^+K^-
Using the FOCUS spectrometer with photon beam energies between 20 and 160
\gev, we confirm the existence of a diffractively photoproduced enhancement in
at 1750 \mevcc with nearly 100 times the statistics of previous
experiments. Assuming this enhancement to be a single resonance with a
Breit-Wigner mass shape, we determine its mass to be
\mevcc and its width to be \mevcc. We find no
corresponding enhancement at 1750 \mevcc in , and again neglecting any
possible interference effects we place limits on the ratio . Our results are consistent with previous
photoproduction experiments, but, because of the much greater statistics,
challenge the common interpretation of this enhancement as the
seen in annihilation experiments.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
Hadronic Mass Spectrum Analysis of D+ into K- pi+ mu+ nu Decay and Measurement of the K*(892)^0 Mass and Width
We present a Kpi mass spectrum analysis of the four-body semileptonic charm
decay D+ into K- pi+ mu+ nu in the range of 0.65 GeV < mKpi < 1.5 GeV. We
observe a non-resonant contribution of 5.30 +- 0.74 +0.99 -0.51 % with respect
to the total D+ into K- pi+ mu+ nu decay. For the K*(892)^0 resonance, we
obtain a mass of 895.41 +- 0.32 +0.35 -0.36 MeV, a width of 47.79 +- 0.86 +1.3
-1.1 MeV, and a Blatt-Weisskopf damping factor parameter of 3.96 +- 0.54 +0.72
-0.90 GeV^(-1). We also report 90 % CL upper limits of 4 % and 0.64 % for the
branching ratios of D+ into K*(1680)^0 mu+ nu with respect to D+ into K- pi+
mu+ nu and D+ into K*(1430)^0 mu+ nu with respect to D+ into K- pi+ mu+ nu,
respectively.Comment: 14 page
The S-wave from the decay
Using data from FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a model
independent partial-wave analysis of the S-wave amplitude from the
decay . The S-wave is a generic complex function to be
determined directly from the data fit. The P- and D-waves are parameterized by
a sum of Breit-Wigner amplitudes. The measurement of the S-wave amplitude
covers the whole elastic range of the system.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Physics Letters
A study of charged kappa in
Based on events collected by BESII, the decay
is studied. In the invariant mass
spectrum recoiling against the charged , the charged
particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of
constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at MeV/. Also in this channel,
the decay is observed for the first time.
Its branching ratio is .Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Partial Wave Analysis of
BES data on are presented. The
contribution peaks strongly near threshold. It is fitted with a
broad resonance with mass MeV, width MeV. A broad resonance peaking at 2020 MeV is also required
with width MeV. There is further evidence for a component
peaking at 2.55 GeV. The non- contribution is close to phase
space; it peaks at 2.6 GeV and is very different from .Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, Submitted to PL
Time-integrated luminosity recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider
This article is the Preprint version of the final published artcile which can be accessed at the link below. We describe a measurement of the time-integrated luminosity of the data collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the ϒ(4S), ϒ(3S), and ϒ(2S) resonances and in a continuum region below each resonance. We measure the time-integrated luminosity by counting e+e-→e+e- and (for the ϒ(4S) only) e+e-→μ+μ- candidate events, allowing additional photons in the final state. We use data-corrected simulation to determine the cross-sections and reconstruction efficiencies for these processes, as well as the major backgrounds. Due to the large cross-sections of e+e-→e+e- and e+e-→μ+μ-, the statistical uncertainties of the measurement are substantially smaller than the systematic uncertainties. The dominant systematic uncertainties are due to observed differences between data and simulation, as well as uncertainties on the cross-sections. For data collected on the ϒ(3S) and ϒ(2S) resonances, an additional uncertainty arises due to ϒ→e+e-X background. For data collected off the ϒ resonances, we estimate an additional uncertainty due to time dependent efficiency variations, which can affect the short off-resonance runs. The relative uncertainties on the luminosities of the on-resonance (off-resonance) samples are 0.43% (0.43%) for the ϒ(4S), 0.58% (0.72%) for the ϒ(3S), and 0.68% (0.88%) for the ϒ(2S).This work is supported by the US Department of Energy and National Science Foundation, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (Canada), the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique and Institut National de Physique Nucléaire et de Physiquedes Particules (France), the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Germany), the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy), the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (The Netherlands), the Research Council of Norway, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Spain), and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (United Kingdom). Study of J/Psi decays into eta Kstar Kstar-bar
We report the first observation of \mPJpsi o \mPeta\mPKst\mAPKst decay in
a \mPJpsi sample of 58 million events collected with the BESII detector. The
branching fraction is determined to be . The selected signal event sample is further used to search for the
\mPY resonance through \mPJpsi o \mPeta \mPY, \mPY o\mPKst\mAPKst. No
evidence of a signal is seen. An upper limit of \mathrm{Br}(\mPJpsi o \mPeta
\mPY)\cdot\mathrm{Br}(\mPY o\mPKst\mAPKst) < 2.52 imes 10^{-4} is set at the
90% confidence level.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Evidence for kappa Meson Production in J/psi -> bar{K}^*(892)^0K^+pi^- Process
Based on 58 million BESII J/psi events, the bar{K}^*(892)^0K^+pi^- channel in
K^+K^-pi^+pi^- is studied. A clear low mass enhancement in the invariant mass
spectrum of K^+pi^- is observed. The low mass enhancement does not come from
background of other J/psi decay channels, nor from phase space. Two independent
partial wave analyses have been performed. Both analyses favor that the low
mass enhancement is the kappa, an isospinor scalar resonant state. The average
mass and width of the kappa in the two analyses are 878 +- 23^{+64}_{-55}
MeV/c^2 and 499 +- 52^{+55}_{-87} MeV/c^2, respectively, corresponding to a
pole at (841 +- 30^{+81}_{-73}) - i(309 +- 45^{+48}_{-72}) MeV/c^2.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure
Observation of the baryonic decay B \uaf 0 → 㦼+ p \uaf K-K+
We report the observation of the baryonic decay B\uaf0→㦼+p\uafK-K+ using a data sample of 471
7106 BB\uaf pairs produced in e+e- annihilations at s=10.58GeV. This data sample was recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We find B(B\uaf0→㦼+p\uafK-K+)=(2.5\ub10.4(stat)\ub10.2(syst)\ub10.6B(㦼+))
710-5, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty of the 㦼+→pK-\u3c0+ branching fraction, respectively. The result has a significance corresponding to 5.0 standard deviations, including all uncertainties. For the resonant decay B\uaf0→㦼+p\uaf\u3c6, we determine the upper limit B(B\uaf0→㦼+p\uaf\u3c6)<1.2

Search for Darkonium in e+e- Collisions
Collider searches for dark sectors, new particles interacting only feebly with ordinary matter, have largely focused on identifying signatures of new mediators, leaving much of dark sector structures unexplored. In particular, the existence of dark matter bound states (darkonia) remains to be investigated. This possibility could arise in a simple model in which a dark photon (A0 ) is light enough to generate an attractive force between dark fermions. We report herein a search for a JPC ¼ 1−− darkonium state, the ϒD, produced in the reaction eþe− → γϒD, ϒD → A0 A0 A0 , where the dark photons subsequently decay into pairs of leptons or pions, using 514 fb−1 of data collected with the BABAR detector. No significant signal is observed, and we set bounds on the γ − A0 kinetic mixing as a function of the dark sector coupling constant for 0.001 < mA0 < 3.16 GeV and 0.05 < mϒD < 9.5 GeV.publishedVersio
