Typification of names in genus Hieracium based on original herbarium material of Alexis Jordan and Alexandre Boreau

    Get PDF
181 names of Hieracium species going back to original herbarium material of Alexis Jordan or Alexandre Boreau are lectotypified, 27 are neotypified. The study is based on herbarium specimens of the Université Catholique de Lyon (LY) and Ville d’Angers (ANG), Martrin-Donos’s herbarium at the Institut Botanique de Montpellier (MPUTarn) and Arvet-Touvet’s herbarium at the Musée d’Histoire Naturelle de Grenoble (GRM-AT). The type specimens are illustrated by photographs of the entire herbarium sheets with some detail views of flower heads and leaves. Usual nomenclatural synonyms are given for each taxon

Discovery and functional prioritization of Parkinson's disease candidate genes from large-scale whole exome sequencing.

BACKGROUND: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) has been successful in identifying genes that cause familial Parkinson's disease (PD). However, until now this approach has not been deployed to study large cohorts of unrelated participants. To discover rare PD susceptibility variants, we performed WES in 1148 unrelated cases and 503 control participants. Candidate genes were subsequently validated for functions relevant to PD based on parallel RNA-interference (RNAi) screens in human cell culture and Drosophila and C. elegans models. RESULTS: Assuming autosomal recessive inheritance, we identify 27 genes that have homozygous or compound heterozygous loss-of-function variants in PD cases. Definitive replication and confirmation of these findings were hindered by potential heterogeneity and by the rarity of the implicated alleles. We therefore looked for potential genetic interactions with established PD mechanisms. Following RNAi-mediated knockdown, 15 of the genes modulated mitochondrial dynamics in human neuronal cultures and four candidates enhanced α-synuclein-induced neurodegeneration in Drosophila. Based on complementary analyses in independent human datasets, five functionally validated genes-GPATCH2L, UHRF1BP1L, PTPRH, ARSB, and VPS13C-also showed evidence consistent with genetic replication. CONCLUSIONS: By integrating human genetic and functional evidence, we identify several PD susceptibility gene candidates for further investigation. Our approach highlights a powerful experimental strategy with broad applicability for future studies of disorders with complex genetic etiologies

Solving Classes of Set Constraints with Tree Automata

    No full text
Set constraints is a suitable formalism for programs static-analysis. However, it is known that the complexity of set constraint problems in the most general cases is very high (NEXPTIME-completeness of the satisfiability test). Lots of works are involved into finding more tractable subclasses. In this paper, we investigate two classes of set constraints shown to be useful for program analysis: the first one is the class of set constraints with intersection defined as inclusions between expressions built over function symbols and the intersection operator. the second one concerns constraints of the form X ` exp, where exp is built with function symbols, the intersection, union and projection operators. The dual aspects of those two classes allows to find a common approach for solving both of them. This approach uses as basic tool tree automata, which are suitable both for computation and representing the solution of those solving problems. It leads also to simple algorithms and an eas..

Probing the band structure of hydrogen-free amorphous carbon and the effect of nitrogen incorporation

cited By 6International audienceAmorphous carbon and carbon nitride bottom gate thin film transistors have been fabricated, which show bulk carrier field effect mobilities around 10 -3 (cm 2 V -1 s -1) which is orders of magnitude higher than the previously reported values with p-channel devices at high electric fields between source and drain. The incorporation of nitrogen atoms into the amorphous carbon films deposited by pulsed laser deposition was studied using a wide range of techniques in order to understand the role of nitrogen in the conduction mechanism at high fields. The density of the states (DOS) was measured with several techniques such as electron energy loss spectroscopy, scanning tunnelling spectroscopy, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, whereas the joint density of states (JDOS), corresponding to the transitions of electrons from the valence to the conduction bands, were obtained by optical transmittance and photothermal deflection spectroscopy. These measurements when combined can provide unparallel data on the shape and magnitude of the energy band states which are crucial to the understanding of the materials properties and thus opto-electronic applications for these thin films. In this report, the conduction mechanism will be discussed with a band diagram drawn based on the experimentally obtained DOS and JDOS measurements. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved
