    Asymptotic completeness in a class of massless relativistic quantum field theories

    This paper presents the first examples of massless relativistic quantum field theories which are interacting and asymptotically complete. These two-dimensional theories are obtained by an application of a deformation procedure, introduced recently by Grosse and Lechner, to chiral conformal quantum field theories. The resulting models may not be strictly local, but they contain observables localized in spacelike wedges. It is shown that the scattering theory for waves in two dimensions, due to Buchholz, is still valid under these weaker assumptions. The concepts of interaction and asymptotic completeness, provided by this theory, are adopted in the present investigation.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX.     Multilocal fermionization

    We present a simple isomorphism between the algebra of one real chiral Fermi field and the algebra of n real chiral Fermi fields. This isomorphism preserves the vacuum state. This is possible by a "change of localization", and gives rise to new multilocal symmetries generated by the corresponding multilocal current and stress-energy tensor. The result gives a common underlying explanation of several remarkable recent results on the representation of the free Bose field in terms of free Fermi fields, and on the modular theory of the free Fermi algebra in disjoint intervals.Comment: 18 pages. v2: minor corrections, reference update

    String-localized Quantum Fields and Modular Localization

    We study free, covariant, quantum (Bose) fields that are associated with irreducible representations of the Poincar\'e group and localized in semi-infinite strings extending to spacelike infinity. Among these are fields that generate the irreducible representations of mass zero and infinite spin that are known to be incompatible with point-like localized fields. For the massive representation and the massless representations of finite helicity, all string-localized free fields can be written as an integral, along the string, of point-localized tensor or spinor fields. As a special case we discuss the string-localized vector fields associated with the point-like electromagnetic field and their relation to the axial gauge condition in the usual setting.Comment: minor correction

    Energy and system size dependence of \phi meson production in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions

    We study the beam-energy and system-size dependence of \phi meson production (using the hadronic decay mode \phi -- K+K-) by comparing the new results from Cu+Cu collisions and previously reported Au+Au collisions at \sqrt{s_NN} = 62.4 and 200 GeV measured in the STAR experiment at RHIC. Data presented are from mid-rapidity (|y|<0.5) for 0.4 < pT < 5 GeV/c. At a given beam energy, the transverse momentum distributions for \phi mesons are observed to be similar in yield and shape for Cu+Cu and Au+Au colliding systems with similar average numbers of participating nucleons. The \phi meson yields in nucleus-nucleus collisions, normalised by the average number of participating nucleons, are found to be enhanced relative to those from p+p collisions with a different trend compared to strange baryons. The enhancement for \phi mesons is observed to be higher at \sqrt{s_NN} = 200 GeV compared to 62.4 GeV. These observations for the produced \phi(s\bar{s}) mesons clearly suggest that, at these collision energies, the source of enhancement of strange hadrons is related to the formation of a dense partonic medium in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions and cannot be alone due to canonical suppression of their production in smaller systems.Comment: 20 pages and 5 figure

    Search for charginos in e+e- interactions at sqrt(s) = 189 GeV

    An update of the searches for charginos and gravitinos is presented, based on a data sample corresponding to the 158 pb^{-1} recorded by the DELPHI detector in 1998, at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV. No evidence for a signal was found. The lower mass limits are 4-5 GeV/c^2 higher than those obtained at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. The (\mu,M_2) MSSM domain excluded by combining the chargino searches with neutralino searches at the Z resonance implies a limit on the mass of the lightest neutralino which, for a heavy sneutrino, is constrained to be above 31.0 GeV/c^2 for tan(beta) \geq 1.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figure

    Hadronization properties of b quarks compared to light quarks in e+e- -> q qbar from 183 to 200 GeV

    The DELPHI detector at LEP has collected 54 pb^{-1} of data at a centre-of-mass energy around 183 GeV during 1997, 158 pb^{-1} around 189 GeV during 1998, and 187 pb^{-1} between 192 and 200 GeV during 1999. These data were used to measure the average charged particle multiplicity in e+e- -> b bbar events, _{bb}, and the difference delta_{bl} between _{bb} and the multiplicity, _{ll}, in generic light quark (u,d,s) events: delta_{bl}(183 GeV) = 4.55 +/- 1.31 (stat) +/- 0.73 (syst) delta_{bl}(189 GeV) = 4.43 +/- 0.85 (stat) +/- 0.61 (syst) delta_{bl}(200 GeV) = 3.39 +/- 0.89 (stat) +/- 1.01 (syst). This result is consistent with QCD predictions, while it is inconsistent with calculations assuming that the multiplicity accompanying the decay of a heavy quark is independent of the mass of the quark itself.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure

    System size dependence of associated yields in hadron-triggered jets

    We present results on the system size dependence of high transverse momentum di-hadron correlations at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV as measured by STAR at RHIC. Measurements in d+Au, Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions reveal similar jet-like correlation yields at small angular separation (Δϕ0\Delta\phi\sim0, Δη0\Delta\eta\sim0) for all systems and centralities. Previous measurements have shown that the away-side yield is suppressed in heavy-ion collisions. We present measurements of the away-side suppression as a function of transverse momentum and centrality in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions. The suppression is found to be similar in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at a similar number of participants. The results are compared to theoretical calculations based on the parton quenching model and the modified fragmentation model. The observed differences between data and theory indicate that the correlated yields presented here will provide important constraints on medium density profile and energy loss model parameters.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure

    Vários fatores influenciam na produtividade do maracujazeiro, dentre os quais o clima, o solo e as práticas de adubação e de irrigação. A nutrição mineral é essencial para elevar a produtividade e melhorar a qualidade dos frutos, e o nitrogênio é o nutriente mais absorvido pelo maracujazeiro. O trabalho objetivou avaliar doses e fontes de nitrogênio, aplicadas em fertirrigação, em 17 meses de produção do maracujá-amarelo (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.), na produção e qualidade dos frutos, em Latossolo Amarelo de Tabuleiro Costeiro do Estado da Bahia. Estudaram-se, em blocos casualizados com parcelas subdivididas, duas fontes de N (uréia e nitrato de cálcio), nas parcelas, e cinco doses de N (0; 100; 200; 400 e 800 kg ha-1), nas subparcelas, com três repetições. O maracujá-amarelo foi plantado no espaçamento de 3,00 x 1,25 m, contendo a subparcela oito plantas úteis, com bordadura simples, e avaliado no período de janeiro de 2000 a janeiro de 2002. Os resultados mostraram que a produtividade máxima de frutos, 34,3 t ha-1, foi obtida com aplicação de 457 kg de N ha-1, na forma de uréia. Contudo, a adubação nitrogenada e as fontes utilizadas não influenciaram nas características do fruto e na qualidade do suco.<br>Passion fruit yield is influenced by several production factors, among them the climate, the soil and the manuring and irrigation practices. Nitrogen (N) is the most absorbed nutrient by the passion-fruit plant and has structural functions in the plant, and it can be supplied by nitric, ammoniacal and starchy sources. The experiment objective was to evaluate nitrogen sources and doses applied in fertirrigation of passion-fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.) production and fruit quality in 17 months of production in a Coastal Tableland Yellow Latosol in Bahia State, Brazil. It was studied, in randomized blocks with split-plots, two sources of N (urea and calcium nitrate), on the plots, and five N doses (0, 100, 200, 400 and 800 kg ha-1), on the split-plots with three replicas. The yellow passion-fruit was planted in a spacing of 3.00 x 1.25 m, in a total area of 1,237.50 m², and evaluated from january 2000 to january 2002. The results showed maximum yield of 34 ton ha-1, applying 457 kg of N ha-1, in urea form. Nitrogen fertilizer and sources did not interfer in the fruit characteristics and juice quality
