Phase angle in osteoarthritis patients, relations with pain, muscular mass and strength

    Get PDF
Several researches have been carried out to see the relation between the Phase Angle (PhA), disease and several health risks factors. Ageing is associated with the loss of muscle mass and changes in body composition, which result in a decrease of the PhA. Malnutrition and inflammation have been reported to have a strong influence on PhA in diseased individuals. Subjects with Osteoarthritis (OA) have decreased muscular strength and pain. The aim of this study was to understand if the PhA was altered in patients with OA and if it's related with pain, muscular mass and strength.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Performative Poetry as Program, Programmed Poetry as Performance

UIDB/05021/2020 UIDP/05021/2020Innovative forms of poetry such as language art and experimental poetry have adopted intersemiotic processes and linguistic constraints in their codification, promoting rereading and transgression of technical apparatuses from the techno-capitalist societies. In addition, new inventive forms of digital language art, such as electronic poetry, have integrated generativity, indeterminacy and combinatorics in their programming, stimulating the reinvention and subversion of computing mechanisms from the networked societies. Through the appropriation of media, poetry articulates creative strategies that question the interface between arts and languages, forms and mechanisms. The experimental attitude of performative poetry presents itself as a program. Similarly, using the potentialities of the computer as a semiotic machine, programmed poetry can be regarded as performative, producing unique, unrepeatable events. Poetry and performance can thus be regarded as floating entities, promoting the transition from a fixed order to an economy of circulations. This scenario fuels the discussion concerning the connections between poetry, performance and program, supporting our reflections through the presentation and description of different examples of poetic intervention in the Portuguese context, which use programming and coding to reconfigure the awareness of language and mediation.publishersversionpublishe

Miconia albicans fruit and seed coat ontogeny were described under light microscope. The samples were fixed in formalin-aceto-alcohol (FAA), neutral-buffered formaldehyde solution (NBF) and formalin-ferrous sulphate (FFS) solutions, embedded in plastic resin, sectioned at 10 µm and stained with Toluidine Blue. Specific dyes and/or reagents were used for the microchemical tests. The ovary is semi-inferior and the indehiscent, fleshy globose berries are originated mainly from the development of the inferior portion of the ovary. The immature pericarp is mainly parenchymatous with some sclereids, druse crystal and phenolic-like compounds idioblasts widespread in the mesocarp. In the mature pericarp, the endocarp cells are often collapsed, the mesocarp is thick with cells more or less turgid, and the sclereids, the druses and the phenolic-like compound idioblasts are almost absent. The ovules are anatropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate, and the zig-zag micropyle is formed by both the exostome and the endostome. The mature seed is pyramidal-elongated in shape, exalbuminous and testal. The raphal part occupies about 40% of the seed coat total length and had the mechanical layer derived from its inner layer. The antiraphal side is non-multiplicative and the exotesta, mesotesta and endotesta are differentiated into a sclerotic layer, with the exotesta being the mechanical one. The tegmen is absent. A semente madura é piramidal-alongada, exalbuminosa e testal.

A dependence modelling study of extreme rainfall in Madeira Island

    Get PDF
The dependence between variables plays a central role in multivariate extremes. In this paper, spatial dependence of Madeira Island's rainfall data is addressed within an extreme value copula approach through an analysis of maximum annual data. The impact of altitude, slope orientation, distance between rain gauge stations and distance from the stations to the sea are investigated for two different periods of time. The results obtained highlight the influence of the island's complex topography on the spatial distribution of extreme rainfall in Madeira Island. The authors wish to thank the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) for the financial support through the PhD grant SFRH/BD/39226/2007, financed by national funds of MCTES.

    Get PDF
The relevance of studying the client's perspective is increasingly recognized as a mean of comprehending how psychotherapy works and how it validates therapeutic models. Change through the Model for the Treatment of Affect Phobia (APT) occurs when clients learn to recognize and communicate their emotions – a fundamental factor for a good mental health. However, research on the mechanisms involved in the change process of this therapy is still very scarce. To clarify this, we intend to identify the client's perspective on their process of change by the APT. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were carried out with eight clients, who had completed the therapeutic process. The analysis of the interviews was carried out through a qualitative approach, based on Thematic Analysis, using the nVivo software. Two themes, 10 categories and 14 subcategories were identified. In general, is observed that the participants attribute their process of change to gains in comprehension, expression, and balance of their emotions. Throughout the process important aspects were mentioned, such as therapeutic proximity and the experience of emotional release. The results are consistent with previous qualitative studies, and studies on the APT. The main results are discussed based on the current literature on the process of change in psychotherapy through the perspective of clients

Ilustración: "Lectura poetica en Bukowski Club (Madrid)", pepeltensoOn Modern Poetry – From Theory to Total Criticism, de Robert Rowland Smith, constitui um manifesto teórico no panorama da crítica literária do séc. XX e XXI.
