A modified Holzapfel-Ogden law for a residually stressed finite strain model of the human left ventricle in diastole
In this work, we introduce a modified Holzapfel-Ogden hyperelastic constitutive model for ventricular myocardium that accounts for residual stresses, and we investigate the effects of residual stresses in diastole using a magnetic resonance imagingâderived model of the human left ventricle (LV). We adopt an invariant-based constitutive modelling approach and treat the left ventricular myocardium as a non-homogeneous, fibre-reinforced, incompressible material. Because in vivo images provide the configuration of the LV in a loaded state even in diastole, an inverse analysis is used to determine the corresponding unloaded reference configuration. The residual stress in this unloaded state is estimated by two different methods. One is based on three-dimensional strain measurements in a local region of the canine LV, and the other uses the opening angle method for a cylindrical tube. We find that including residual stress in the model changes the stress distributions across the myocardium and that whereas both methods yield qualitatively similar changes, there are quantitative differences between the two approaches. Although the effects of residual stresses are relatively small in diastole, the model can be extended to explore the full impact of residual stress on LV mechanical behaviour for the whole cardiac cycle as more experimental data become available. In addition, although not considered here, residual stresses may also play a larger role in models that account for tissue growth and remodelling
I=3/2 Scattering in the Nonrelativisitic Quark Potential Model
We study elastic scattering to Born order using
nonrelativistic quark wavefunctions in a constituent-exchange model. This
channel is ideal for the study of nonresonant meson-meson scattering amplitudes
since s-channel resonances do not contribute significantly. Standard quark
model parameters yield good agreement with the measured S- and P-wave phase
shifts and with PCAC calculations of the scattering length. The P-wave phase
shift is especially interesting because it is nonzero solely due to
symmetry breaking effects, and is found to be in good agreement with experiment
given conventional values for the strange and nonstrange constituent quark
masses.Comment: 12 pages + 2 postscript figures, Revtex, MIT-CTP-210
The resultant on compact Riemann surfaces
We introduce a notion of resultant of two meromorphic functions on a compact
Riemann surface and demonstrate its usefulness in several respects. For
example, we exhibit several integral formulas for the resultant, relate it to
potential theory and give explicit formulas for the algebraic dependence
between two meromorphic functions on a compact Riemann surface. As a particular
application, the exponential transform of a quadrature domain in the complex
plane is expressed in terms of the resultant of two meromorphic functions on
the Schottky double of the domain.Comment: 44 page
Scattering in Three Flavour ChPT
We present the scattering lengths for the processes in the three
flavour Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) framework at next-to-next-to-leading
order (NNLO). The calculation has been performed analytically but we only
include analytical results for the dependence on the low-energy constants
(LECs) at NNLO due to the size of the expressions. These results, together with
resonance estimates of the NNLO LECs are used to obtain constraints on the
Zweig rule suppressed LECs at NLO, and . Contrary to
expectations from NLO order calculations we find them to be compatible with
zero. We do a preliminary study of combining the results from
scattering, scattering and the scalar form-factors and find only a
marginal compatibility with all experimental/dispersive input data.Comment: 23 page

Model-independent search for CP violation in D0âKâK+ÏâÏ+ and D0âÏâÏ+Ï+Ïâ decays
A search for CP violation in the phase-space structures of D0 and View the MathML source decays to the final states KâK+ÏâÏ+ and ÏâÏ+Ï+Ïâ is presented. The search is carried out with a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fbâ1 collected in 2011 by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. For the KâK+ÏâÏ+ final state, the four-body phase space is divided into 32 bins, each bin with approximately 1800 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 9.1%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 6.5% observed. The phase space of the ÏâÏ+Ï+Ïâ final state is partitioned into 128 bins, each bin with approximately 2500 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 41%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 5.5% observed. All results are consistent with the hypothesis of no CP violation at the current sensitivity
Search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays Bs0âe±Όâ and B0âe±Όâ
A search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays Bs0âe±Όâ and B0âe±Όâ is performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0ââfb-1 of pp collisions at âs=7ââTeV, collected by the LHCb experiment. The observed number of Bs0âe±Όâ and B0âe±Όâ candidates is consistent with background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions of both decays are determined to be B(Bs0âe±Όâ)101ââTeV/c2 and MLQ(B0âe±Όâ)>126ââTeV/c2 at 95% C.L., and are a factor of 2 higher than the previous bounds
