Avoiding core's DUE & SDC via acoustic wave detectors and tailored error containment and recovery

    Get PDF
The trend of downsizing transistors and operating voltage scaling has made the processor chip more sensitive against radiation phenomena making soft errors an important challenge. New reliability techniques for handling soft errors in the logic and memories that allow meeting the desired failures-in-time (FIT) target are key to keep harnessing the benefits of Moore's law. The failure to scale the soft error rate caused by particle strikes, may soon limit the total number of cores that one may have running at the same time. This paper proposes a light-weight and scalable architecture to eliminate silent data corruption errors (SDC) and detected unrecoverable errors (DUE) of a core. The architecture uses acoustic wave detectors for error detection. We propose to recover by confining the errors in the cache hierarchy, allowing us to deal with the relatively long detection latencies. Our results show that the proposed mechanism protects the whole core (logic, latches and memory arrays) incurring performance overhead as low as 0.60%. © 2014 IEEE.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Transistors consist of lower number of atoms with every technology generation. Such atoms may be displaced due to the stress caused by high temperature, frequency and current, leading to failures. NBTI (negative bias temperature instability) is one of the most important sources of failure affecting transistors. NBTI degrades PMOS transistors whenever the voltage at the gate is negative (logic inputPeer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Get PDF

Social agents (people, groups, organizations, societies) are exposed to the environment that surrounds them. The agent´s daily activities are influenced by multiple externalities that, in some way, complement and modify their behavior. This article focuses in the analysis of organizational change and the way of how organizations must be face the change in order to assimilate it in a proper manner. Organizational change could be understood as a constant and multi perspective strategic process of adoption and adaptation and, in this sense, the assimilation of change relies on how organizations manage these two processes (adoption and adaptation). The conceptualization of change as a constant process implies that organizations continuously face it, and as a consequence, organizations need to understand the nature of this process in order to face it properly. The process approach allows to study the causes and consequences of organizational change without separate it from its constituent elements, in other words, the process approach allows to study an event as a whole without separate it from its relations with other elements

Numerical and experimental investigation of a vertical LiBr falling film absorber considering wave regimes and in presence of mist flow

The absorber represents the most critical component in absorption systems and one of the key issues. In this component complex heat and mass transfer phenomena during the absorption process takes place simultaneously. For this reason the development of mathematical models validated against experimental data always constitutes useful tools for the design and improvement of falling film absorbers. A testing device has been designed and built to reproduce absorption phenomena in vertical LiBr-H2O falling film absorbers with the primary objective to obtain experimental data. On the other hand, a mathematical model of falling film absorption of H2O vapour in LiBr aqueous solutions has been implemented. Wave regime is considered by including and solving the Free Surface Deflection Equation. The numerical results are validated using the experimental data. During the development of this work, the authors have paid careful attention to the verification of experimental data. Such verification consists of performing energy and mass balances in the fluid film side. Important discrepancies were found in our experimental data. Therefore, an extensive study was carried out in order to find the source of such errors. The conclusion is that there is a drag of LiBr solution in the water vapour which increases with the Re number. This mist flow cannot be measured experimentally, but can be evaluated in an indirect way. The mathematical models have been adapted in order to consider the influence of mist flow. On the other hand, in the literature there are not many experimental works related to falling film absorbers which expose enough information to verify the reliability of their experimental data.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

The objective of this study is to examine the reliability and validity of the Spanish version of the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) in a sample of Puerto Rican women. Relationship satisfaction can be defined as the global position towards partnered love relationships and the actual couple. The sample consisted of 1,009 women whom were involved in some type of couple relationship including marriage or a cohabiting relationship. The confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the data, as well as item discrimination analysis and internal consistency reliability. The results obtained confirmed the one-dimensional structure of the RAS with an adequate internal consistency (Alpha = .91; Split-half = .93). The seven items of the scale complied with the discrimination criteria. The results demonstrated that the validity and reliability of the scale are appropriate, and therefore a useful and valid tool to measure the level of satisfaction of Puerto Rican women in amorous relationships. Multirobot heterogeneous control considering secondary objectives

Cooperative robotics has considered tasks that are executed frequently, maintaining the shape and orientation of robotic systems when they fulfill a common objective, without taking advantage of the redundancy that the robotic group could present. This paper presents a proposal for controlling a group of terrestrial robots with heterogeneous characteristics, considering primary and secondary tasks thus that the group complies with the following of a path while modifying its shape and orientation at any time. The development of the proposal is achieved through the use of controllers based on linear algebra, propounding a low computational cost and high scalability algorithm. Likewise, the stability of the controller is analyzed to know the required features that have to be met by the control constants, that is, the correct values. Finally, experimental results are shown with di erent configurations and heterogeneous robots, where the graphics corroborate the expected operation of the proposalThis research was funded by Corporación Ecuatoriana para el Desarrollo de la Investigación y Academia–CEDI
