    Maíz y trigo son los cereales más utilizados en piensos para aves. El maíz tiene menos proteína (7,7 vs. 11,2%) pero más energía (3.260 vs. 3.150 Kcal EMAn/kg) que el trigo (FEDNA, 2010). Además, el valor nutricional es más variable para el trigo que para el maíz Kim et al., 1976; Mollah et al., 1983). En pollos y en ponedoras, numerosos trabajos indican que el trigo puede ser utilizado en sustitución del maíz como ingrediente principal del pienso Mathlouthi et al., 2002; Carré et al., 2002; Lázaro et al., 2003; Pérez-Bonilla et al., 2011). Frikha et al. (2009), observaron que las pollitas alimentadas con maíz tenían mayores GMD pero IC similares que las pollitas alimentadas con trigo. La presentación del pienso afecta los rendimientos productivos en avicultura. Amerah et al. (2007) mostraron un aumento de la GMD y una mejora del IC en pollos alimentados con gránulos en comparación con los alimentados con harina. Gous y Morris (2001) observaron que pollitas alimentadas con migas de 1 a 4 sem y con gránulo de 5 a 20 sem de edad, consumieron 2% menos pienso pero pesaron un 6% más que las alimentadas con harina durante toda la recría. Frikha et al. (2009) observaron un incremento en la GMD en las pollitas alimentadas con gránulo respecto a las pollitas alimentadas con harina. Los autores no han encontrado información alguna sobre el efecto de alternar la presentación del pienso (bien en harina, bien en miga) durante las distintas etapas del periodo de recría (0-5, 5-10 y 10-17 sem de vida) sobre la productividad de las aves. El presente trabajo estudió la influencia del cereal base del pienso y de cambios en la presentación del mismo durante las 3 fases del programa de alimentación en recría sobre los parámetros productivos en pollitas de 1 a 17 semanas de edad

    Multidisciplinary consensus on the approach to hospital malnutrition in Spain

    Rationale: Disease-related malnutrition constitutes a highly prevalent healthcare problem with high costs associated. In Spain, the prevalence of malnutrition in hospitalized patients has been reported from 30% to 50%. Objectives: Main purposes of this consensus document were to establish recommendations that facilitate decision- making and action to prevent and early-diagnose disease-related hospital malnutrition, on the management of nutritional support methods and actions to evaluate nutritional treatment compliance and efficacy. Methods: A systematic bibliographical search of authors was performed, complemented by updated bibliography by author references up to 2010. From this review, some recommendations were defined, modified and critically evaluated by the representatives of scientific societies in a consensus conference (Dec 2010) following a structured brainstorming technique: the Metaplan® technique. A double validation process was undertaken until final recommendations were obtained. Results: 30 consensus recommendations for the prevention and management of hospital malnutrition are presented in this document. Recommendations cover all clinical care settings as well as prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of disease-related malnutrition. Conclusions: Nutritional screening is strongly recommended at all clinical settings when nutritional risk factors are identified or there is clinical suspicion of malnutrition. Nutritional assessment should be designed and performed according to centers’ resources, but clearly identified protocols should be available.La desnutrición relacionada con la enfermedad constituye un problema sanitario de elevada prevalencia y altos costes. En España, la prevalencia de desnutrición de los pacientes hospitalizados se ha estimado entre el 30% y el 50%. Objetivos: El objetivo principal de este consenso fue establecer recomendaciones para facilitar la toma de decisiones para la prevención y el diagnostico precoz de la desnutrición hospitalaria, el manejo del soporte nutricional, y las acciones para evaluar el cumplimiento de la intervención nutricional y su eficacia. Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda sistemática de autor complementada por bibliografía actualizada por referencias de autor hasta el año 2010. A partir de esta revisión, se definieron algunas recomendaciones que fueron criticadas y modificadas por los representantes de las Sociedades Científicas participantes en una conferencia de consenso (Diciembre 2010) siguiendo una técnica de brainstorming estructurado: la técnica Metaplan®. Se realizaron dos vueltas de validación de las recomendaciones hasta obtener las recomendaciones finales. Resultados: Este documento presenta 30 recomendaciones para la prevención y el manejo de la desnutrición hospitalaria. Las mismas cubren todas las áreas de actuación clínica así como la prevención, cribado, diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento de la desnutrición hospitalaria relacionada con la enfermedad. Conclusiones: Se recomienda enérgicamente el cribado nutricional en todas las áreas de actuación clínica cuando se identifiquen factores de riesgo nutricional o sospecha clínica de desnutrición. La valoración del estado nutricional debe diseñarse y realizarse de acuerdo a los recursos disponibles en cada centro, disponiendo de claros protocolos de actuación

    A systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of flavanol-containing tea, cocoa and apple products on body composition and blood lipids: exploring the factors responsible for variability in their efficacy

    Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses support the benefits of flavanols on cardiometabolic health, but the factors affecting variability in the responses to these compounds have not been properly assessed. The objectives of this meta-analysis were to systematically collect the RCTs-based-evidence of the effects of flavanol-containing tea, cocoa and apple products on selected biomarkers of cardiometabolic risk and to explore the influence of various factors on the variability in the responses to the consumption of these products. A total of 120 RCTs were selected. Despite a high heterogeneity, the intake of the flavanol-containing products was associated using a random model with changes (reported as standardized difference in means (SDM)) in body mass index (−0.15, p < 0.001), waist circumference (−0.29, p < 0.001), total-cholesterol (−0.21, p < 0.001), LDL-cholesterol (−0.23, p < 0.001), and triacylglycerides (−0.11, p = 0.027), and with an increase of HDL-cholesterol (0.15, p = 0.005). Through subgroup analyses, we showed the influence of baseline-BMI, sex, source/form of administration, medication and country of investigation on some of the outcome measures and suggest that flavanols may be more effective in specific subgroups such as those with a BMI ≥ 25.0 kg/m2, non-medicated individuals or by specifically using tea products. This meta-analysis provides the first robust evidence of the effects induced by the consumption of flavanol-containing tea, cocoa and apple products on weight and lipid biomarkers and shows the influence of various factors that can affect their bioefficacy in humans. Of note, some of these effects are quantitatively comparable to those produced by drugs, life-style changes or other natural products. Further, RCTs in well-characterized populations are required to fully comprehend the factors affecting inter-individual responses to flavanol and thereby improve flavanols efficacy in the prevention of cardiometabolic disorders

    Freelance networks, trade unions and below-the-line solidarity in regional film and television clusters: An interview with the Bristol editors network

    This article consists of an introduction and extended interview transcript conducted with several members of the Bristol Editors’ Network (BEN), an organization established in May 2015 to support the large community of editors that work in and around Bristol and the South West of England. The interview transcript is significant for several reasons. First and foremost, it provides a rich account of what it is like to freelance within the third-largest film and television production cluster in the UK, after London and Manchester. In doing so, the transcript also offers an insight into the sometimes-fraught state of contemporary industrial relations between the region’s employers and its largely freelance workforce. Moreover, the transcript provides an account of how, by establishing BEN, Bristol editors are working to defend themselves against exploitative practices in the cluster, fostering a mutually-supportive freelance community and contributing to a more effective, equitable production culture in the city

    One-loop mass shifts to the classical masses of stable kinks arising in a massive non-linear S2{\mathbb S}^2-sigma model are computed. Ultraviolet divergences are controlled using the heat kernel/zeta function regularization method.     Clinical Usefulness Of Sars-Cov-2 Rapid Antigen Tests In Adults During High Prevalence Community Outbreaks

    We evaluated performance of Abbott PanBio® COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Device (RATD) to detect SARS-CoV-2 infection in adults during high prevalence COVID-19 outbreaks. We found high accuracy in correct diagnosis (88% CI 85-91%, p<0.05) regardless of gender, presence of symptoms, disease timeline. Test sensitivity appeared to increase with age, specificity seemed to decline. Best diagnostic accuracy was obtained in middle-aged adults (94% CI 89-97%, p<0.05), but remained high through all ages. These results support RATD as a reliable measure to determine isolation of infected individuals during outbreaks.     Abstract: In this paper a methodology is proposed to elaborate landslide activity maps through the use of PS (Persistent Scatterer) data. This is illustrated through the case study of Tramuntana Range in the island of Majorca (Spain), where ALOS (Advanced Land Observing Satellite) images have been processed through a Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) technique during the period of 2007–2010. The landslide activity map provides, for every monitored landslide, an assessment of the PS visibility according to the relief, land use, and satellite acquisition parameters. Landslide displacement measurements are projected along the steepest slope, in order to compare landslide velocities with different slope orientations.     Addressing the inter-individual variation in response to consumption of plant food bioactives : Towards a better understanding of their role in healthy aging and cardiometabolic risk reduction

    Bioactive compounds in plant-based foods have health properties that contribute to the prevention of age-related chronic diseases, particularly cardiometabolic disorders. Conclusive proof and understanding of these benefits in humans is essential in order to provide effective dietary recommendations but, so far, the evidence obtained from human intervention trials is limited and contradictory. This is partly due to differences between individuals in the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of bioactive compounds, as well as to heterogeneity in their biological response regarding cardiometabolic health outcomes. Identifying the main factors underlying inter-individual differences, as well as developing new and innovative methodologies to account for such variability constitute an overarching goal to ultimately optimize the beneficial health effects of plant food bioactives for each and every one of us. In this respect, this position paper from the COST Action FA1403-POSITIVe examines the main factors likely to affect the individual responses to consumption of plant food bioactives and presents perspectives for assessment and consideration of inter-individual variability.Peer reviewe

    Association of VAV2 and VAV3 polymorphisms with cardiovascular risk factors

    Hypertension, diabetes and obesity are cardiovascular risk factors closely associated to the development of renal and cardiovascular target organ damage. VAV2 and VAV3, members of the VAV family proto-oncogenes, are guanosine nucleotide exchange factors for the Rho and Rac GTPase family, which is related with cardiovascular homeostasis. We have analyzed the relationship between the presence of VAV2 rs602990 and VAV3 rs7528153 polymorphisms with cardiovascular risk factors and target organ damage (heart, vessels and kidney) in 411 subjects. Our results show that being carrier of the T allele in VAV2 rs602990 polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of obesity, reduced levels of ankle-brachial index and diastolic blood pressure and reduced retinal artery caliber. In addition, being carrier of T allele is associated with increased risk of target organ damage in males. On the other hand, being carrier of the T allele in VAV3 rs7528153 polymorphism is associated with a decreased susceptibility of developing a pathologic state composed by the presence of hypertension, diabetes, obesity or cardiovascular damage, and with an increased risk of developing altered basal glycaemia. This is the first report showing an association between VAV2 and VAV3 polymorphisms with cardiovascular risk factors and target organ damage

    (De)constructing Intersecting M5-branes

    We describe intersecting M5-branes, as well as M5-branes wrapping the holomorphic curve xy=c, in terms of a limit of a defect conformal field theory with two-dimensional (4,0) supersymmetry. This dCFT describes the low-energy theory of intersecting D3-branes at a C^2/Z_k orbifold. In an appropriate k -> infinity limit, two compact spatial directions are generated. By identifying moduli of the M5-M5 intersection in terms of those of the dCFT, we argue that the SU(2)_L R-symmetry of the (4,0) defect CFT matches the SU(2) R-symmetry of the N =2, d=4 theory of the M5-M5 intersection. We find a 't Hooft anomaly in the SU(2)_L R-symmetry, suggesting that tensionless strings give rise to an anomaly in the SU(2) R-symmetry of intersecting M5-branes.Comment: latex, 25 pages, 4 figure
