Enseigner le français en contexte universitaire à des étudiants non francophones en mobilité : quelle place pour les littératures francophones ?

    Get PDF
The role of literature in language teaching has been re-assessed ; it has been documented in numerous work, many of them paying a special attention to francophone literature, which seems to be able to function as a bridge between languages and cultures. This paper will analyze individual interviews conducted with teachers  working in French-language university centers. How do they define this corpus (including, or not, french «hexagonal» literature ?)  Which place and functions do they assign to theses litteratures in their teaching practices

    Chorangioma and John Clarke

    Get PDF
Perinatal mortality is a relevant indicator of a country health status. Through the centuries, measures have been promoted to reduce modifiable risk factors or to treat installed diseases. That was the example of the English medical doctor John Clarke (1758/1760?-1851), who dedicated his life to mother-child health care [1]. Among his contributions is the report of a placental tumour in 1798, named Chorangioma placenta (CP) [2]. It may occur in primiparas or multiparas, apparently increasing with the mother’s age, with association to the mother’s hypertension or diabetes mellitus [3]. Chorangioma may appear in single or multiple pregnancies and may lead to foetal heart failure, hydrops, or sudden intra-uterine death [3]. The authors report the case of a 2 cm diameter chorangioma (Fig. 1A), which ended in premature death of the male foetus in utero at 35 weeks and 5 days, in a multiparous mother. Histopathological examination confirmed the macroscopic suspicion by disclosing a benign vascular capillary proliferation (Fig. 1B) positive for endothelial markers CD34/CD31 (Fig. 1C). Its current incidence ranges from 0.5% to 1% of analysed placentas [4] and may represent a primitive angioblastic tissue malformation, aggravated with hypoxia and/or haemodynamic changes during pregnancy. To conclude, we highlight the relevance of chorangioma as a cause of perinatal death, which is around 30% [4]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

;--- Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan (Dispusip) Kota Bandung is a form of public library, which function is to develop urban village libraries. Currently, the empowerment of urban village libraries in 151 village in Bandung City is not realized yet. Urban village libraries can perform its functions properly in accordance with the implementation of library management functions. The problem of this study is how Dispusip Kota Bandung manages the implementation of urban village libraries coaching in Bandung City. The purpose of this study is to describe the planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling of urban village libraries coaching by Dispusip Kota Bandung. The research method used in this study is qualitative method with a case study approach. The subjects of this study consist of three informants who act as a librarian and a key informant as a Head of Library and Archive Development by using purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used in this study are interviews, observations, and documentation studies. This study uses data analysis technique of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing (verification). Based on the study of a model construction of urban village libraries coaching, the result is that the coaching activities of urban village libraries done by Dispusip Kota Bandung is relevant to the management functions. The functions of planning, organizing, and actuating of village libraries coaching activities in Bandung City are realized quite well. However, the function of controlling has not run optimally. This is due to the limitations of human resources owned by Dispusip Kota Bandung. This coaching program is expected to be able to realize the enforcement of urban village libraries and to give contribution to the improvement of library coaching management done by Dispusip Kota Bandung

    Dental abscess and “unexpected death”...

    Get PDF
Even though we are living in an era of major technical-scientific advances and effective antimicrobial and antiviral therapy, dental infections are still the most important predisposing factors for head and neck infections. Odontogenic infections can cause severe complications, e.g. compromised airways, tissue necrosis, deep neck infections, mediastinitis, endocarditis and sepsis. These severe odontogenic infections can be potentially life-threatening. Usually odontogenic infections respond well to a combination of surgical treatment (incision, rainage) and antibiotic therapy. However, especially when the medico-surgical therapy is installed late, cases may evolve unfavourably and be fatal. The authors report a case of a 30-year-old man who was observed on three consecutive occasions by the General Practitioner in a District Hospital, for a decayed tooth with abscess and was, then, referred to a Central Hospital. There, he was examined for the fourth time, this one by a Stomatologist at the Emergency Department, where he died. The post mortem examination revealed bacterial (Gram +) acute neutrophilic (purulent) infection of soft tissues of the mandibular region and neck with para-tracheal extension, as well as thrombosis ofthe left jugular vein. Circumstantial clinical information, post mortem findings, pathophysiology (including complications andprogression of the disease to death) are discussed, highlighting the relevance of accurate and timely diagnosis and treatmentto avoid malpractice and mortality.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The two-step treatment for giant hepatic hemangiomas

    Get PDF
The aim of the present study is to analyze the feasibility and the impact of a two-step approach in the treatment of giant hemangiomas (GH) i.e., exceeding 10 cm in maximum diameter, con-sisting of transarterial embolization (TAE) followed by laparoscopic liver resection (LLR). Ten patients with 11 GH were treated with TAE and subsequent LLR between 2017 and 2020 (Group A). A matched cohort of 10 patients with GH treated with upfront LLR between 2014 and 2017 was identified for comparison (Group B). Data were analyzed regarding intraoperative and postoperative outcomes, including successful completion of LLR, morbidity, and mortality. Successful microparticle emboliza-tion of the GH-feeding arteries was performed in all patients in group A. In three cases a liquid embolic agent (Squid-18) was also injected to obtain complete embolization. No complications were observed after TAE. Successful surgery was performed after a mean time interval of 2.2 days from TAE without any case of conversion to laparotomy. Statistically significant differences between group A and group B were found in intraoperative blood loss (250 \ub1 200 vs. 400 \ub1 300 mL, p = 0.039), operative time (245 \ub1 60 vs. 420 \ub1 60 min, p = 0.027), and length of stay (5 \ub1 1 vs. 8 \ub1 2 days, p = 0.046). Our data suggest that two-step TAE + LLR might be a safe and effective option for surgical treatment of GH >10 cm

The <i>Castalia</i> mission to Main Belt Comet 133P/Elst-Pizarro

We describe Castalia, a proposed mission to rendezvous with a Main Belt Comet (MBC), 133P/Elst-Pizarro. MBCs are a recently discovered population of apparently icy bodies within the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, which may represent the remnants of the population which supplied the early Earth with water. Castalia will perform the first exploration of this population by characterising 133P in detail, solving the puzzle of the MBC’s activity, and making the first in situ measurements of water in the asteroid belt. In many ways a successor to ESA’s highly successful Rosetta mission, Castalia will allow direct comparison between very different classes of comet, including measuring critical isotope ratios, plasma and dust properties. It will also feature the first radar system to visit a minor body, mapping the ice in the interior. Castalia was proposed, in slightly different versions, to the ESA M4 and M5 calls within the Cosmic Vision programme. We describe the science motivation for the mission, the measurements required to achieve the scientific goals, and the proposed instrument payload and spacecraft to achieve these
