Dark Matter directional detection: comparison of the track direction determination
Several directional techniques have been proposed for a directional detection
of Dark matter, among others anisotropic crystal detectors, nuclear emulsion
plates, and low-pressure gaseous TPCs. The key point is to get access to the
initial direction of the nucleus recoiling due to the elastic scattering by a
WIMP. In this article, we aim at estimating, for each method, how the
information of the recoil track initial direction is preserved in different
detector materials. We use the SRIM simulation code to emulate the motion of
the first recoiling nucleus in each material. We propose the use of a new
observable, D, to quantify the preservation of the initial direction of the
recoiling nucleus in the detector. We show that in an emulsion mix and an
anisotropic crystal, the initial direction is lost very early, while in a
typical TPC gas mix, the direction is well preserved.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
A superfluid He3 detector for direct dark matter search
MACHe3 (MAtrix of Cells of superfluid He3) is a project of a new detector for
direct Dark Matter Search. The idea is to use superfluid He3 as a sensitive
medium. The existing device, the superfluid He3 cell, will be briefly
introduced. Then a description of the MACHe3 project will be presented, in
particular the background rejection and the neutralino event rate that may be

A project of a new detector for direct Dark Matter search: MACHe3
MACHe3 (MAtrix of Cells of superfluid He3) is a project of a new detector for
direct Dark Matter (DM) search. A cell of superfluid He3 has been developed and
the idea of using a large number of such cells in a high granularity detector
is proposed.This contribution presents, after a brief description of the
superfluid He3 cell, the simulation of the response of different matrix
configurations allowing to define an optimum design as a function of the number
of cells and the volume of each cell. The exclusion plot and the predicted

Project of a superfluid He3 detector for direct detection of non-baryonic dark matter : MACHe3
MACHe3 (MAtrix of Cells of superfluid Helium 3) is a project of non-baryonic
Dark Matter search using superfluid He3 as sensitive medium. Simulations on a
high granularity matrix show very good rejection against background events.
First results on a prototype cell are very encouraging. Neutron detection has
been highlighted as well as cosmic muon detection. A phenomenological study has
been done with the DarkSUSY code to investigate complementarity of MACHe3 with

Report of the GDR working group on the R-parity violation
This report summarizes the work of the "R-parity violation group" of the
French Research Network (GDR) in Supersymmetry, concerning the physics of
supersymmetric models without conservation of R-parity at HERA, LEP, Tevatron
and LHC and limits on R-parity violating couplings from various processes. The
report includes a discussion of the recent searches at the HERA experiment,
prospects for new experiments, a review of the existing limits, and also
theoretically motivated alternatives to R-parity and a brief discussion on the

First Detection of Polarization of the Submillimetre Diffuse Galactic Dust Emission by Archeops
We present the first determination of the Galactic polarized emission at 353
GHz by Archeops. The data were taken during the Arctic night of February 7,
2002 after the balloon--borne instrument was launched by CNES from the Swedish
Esrange base near Kiruna. In addition to the 143 GHz and 217 GHz frequency
bands dedicated to CMB studies, Archeops had one 545 GHz and six 353 GHz
bolometers mounted in three polarization sensitive pairs that were used for
Galactic foreground studies. We present maps of the I, Q, U Stokes parameters
over 17% of the sky and with a 13 arcmin resolution at 353 GHz (850 microns).
They show a significant Galactic large scale polarized emission coherent on the
longitude ranges [100, 120] and [180, 200] deg. with a degree of polarization
at the level of 4-5%, in agreement with expectations from starlight
polarization measurements. Some regions in the Galactic plane (Gem OB1,
Cassiopeia) show an even stronger degree of polarization in the range 10-20%.
Those findings provide strong evidence for a powerful grain alignment mechanism
throughout the interstellar medium and a coherent magnetic field coplanar to
the Galactic plane. This magnetic field pervades even some dense clouds.
Extrapolated to high Galactic latitude, these results indicate that
interstellar dust polarized emission is the major foreground for PLANCK-HFI CMB

Extracellular matrix hydrogels from decellularized tissues: structure and function
Extracellular matrix (ECM) bioscaffolds prepared from decellularized tissues have been used to facilitate constructive and functional tissue remodeling in a variety of clinical applications. The discovery that these ECM materials could be solubilized and subsequently manipulated to form hydrogels expanded their potential in vitro and in vivo utility; i.e. as culture substrates comparable to collagen or Matrigel, and as injectable materials that fill irregularly-shaped defects. The mechanisms by which ECM hydrogels direct cell behavior and influence remodeling outcomes are only partially understood, but likely include structural and biological signals retained from the native source tissue. The present review describes the utility, formation, and physical and biological characterization of ECM hydrogels. Two examples of clinical application are presented to demonstrate in vivo utility of ECM hydrogels in different organ systems. Search for composite and exotic fermions at LEP 2
A search for unstable heavy fermions with the DELPHI detector at LEP is
reported. Sequential and non-canonical leptons, as well as excited leptons and
quarks, are considered. The data analysed correspond to an integrated
luminosity of about 48 pb^{-1} at an e^+e^- centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV
and about 20 pb^{-1} equally shared between the centre-of-mass energies of 172
GeV and 161 GeV. The search for pair-produced new leptons establishes 95%
confidence level mass limits in the region between 70 GeV/c^2 and 90 GeV/c^2,
depending on the channel. The search for singly produced excited leptons and
quarks establishes upper limits on the ratio of the coupling of the excited
fermio
Search for charginos in e+e- interactions at sqrt(s) = 189 GeV
An update of the searches for charginos and gravitinos is presented, based on
a data sample corresponding to the 158 pb^{-1} recorded by the DELPHI detector
in 1998, at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV. No evidence for a signal was
found. The lower mass limits are 4-5 GeV/c^2 higher than those obtained at a
centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. The (\mu,M_2) MSSM domain excluded by
combining the chargino searches with neutralino searches at the Z resonance
implies a limit on the mass of the lightest neutralino which, for a heavy
sneutrino, is constrained to be above 31.0 GeV/c^2 for tan(beta) \geq 1.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figure
Search for lightest neutralino and stau pair production in light gravitino scenarios with stau NLSP
Promptly decaying lightest neutralinos and long-lived staus are searched for
in the context of light gravitino scenarios. It is assumed that the stau is the
next to lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) and that the lightest
neutralino is the next to NLSP (NNLSP). Data collected with the Delphi detector
at centre-of-mass energies from 161 to 183 \GeV are analysed. No evidence of
the production of these particles is found. Hence, lower mass limits for both
kinds of particles are set at 95% C.L.. The mass of gaugino-like neutralinos is
found to be greater than 71.5 GeV/c^2. In the search for long-lived stau,
masses less than 70.0 to 77.5 \GeVcc are excluded for gravitino masses from 10
to 150 \eVcc . Combining this search with the searches for stable heavy leptons
and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model staus a lower limit of 68.5 \GeVcc
may be set for the stau mas
