Background: Malaria remains a significant public health concern, with Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax infections often leading to systemic complications, including hepatic dysfunction. Objective: This study investigates the relationship between malaria severity and liver function abnormalities, particularly bilirubin and liver enzyme elevations, in malaria patients in Aden, Yemen. Method: A retrospective observational study was conducted among 150 malaria patients from September to December 2024 in multiple private and public hospitals in Aden, Yemen. Malaria severity was classified based on WHO criteria into severe, moderate and mild. Liver function markers, including (ALT), (AST), (T. Bilirubin), and (D. Bilirubin), were measured using spectrophotometry. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 26 with significance set at p < 0.05. Results: Males (61%) were more affected than females (39%), with Plasmodium falciparum accounting for 68% of cases. Severe malaria was observed in 56% of patients. Liver enzyme levels were markedly elevated in severe malaria cases, with mean ALT at 80.29 ± 45.11 U/L and ALT at 78.46 ± 46.67 U/L. Bilirubin levels were also significantly increased (T. Bilirubin: 3.00 ± 2.3 mg/dL, D. Bilirubin: 1.19 ± 1.1 mg/dL), with a strong association between disease severity and hepatic dysfunction (p < 0.001). However, no statistical relationship was found between malaria severity and demographic characteristics, including gender (p = 0.318), place of residence (p = 0.438), and participant age (p = 0.869). Conclusion: Severe malaria is associated with significant hepatic dysfunction, characterized by elevated liver enzyme levels and hyperbilirubinemia. These findings underscore the importance of continuous liver function monitoring in malaria patients to prevent severe hepatic complications. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and potential long-term impacts of malarial hepatopathy

The Bostrichidae of the Maltese Islands are reviewed. Ten species are recorded with certainty from this Archipelago, of which 6 namely, Trogoxylon impressum (Comolli, 1837), Amphicerus bimaculatus (A.G. Olivier, 1790), Heterobostrychus aequalis (Waterhouse, 1884), Sinoxylon unidentatum (Fabricius, 1801), Xyloperthella picea (A.G. Olivier, 1790) and Apate monachus Fabricius, 1775 are recorded for the first time. Two of the mentioned species (H. aequalis and S. unidentatum) are alien and recorded only on the basis of single captures and the possible establishment of these species is discussed. Earlier records of Scobicia pustulata (Fabricius, 1801) from Malta are incorrect and should be attributed to S. chevrieri (A. Villa & J.B. Villa, 1835). A zoogeographical analysis and an updated checklist of the 12 species of Bostrichidae recorded from the Maltese Islands and neighbouring Sicilian islands (Pantelleria, Linosa and Lampedusa) are also provided. Rhizopertha dominica (Fabricius, 1792) form granulipennis Lesne in Beeson & Bhatia, 1937 from Uttarakhand (northern India) was overlooked by almost all subsequent authors. Its history is summarized and the following new synonymy is established: Rhizopertha dominica (Fabricius, 1792) form granulipennis Lesne in Beeson & Bhatia, 1937 = Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius, 1792), syn. n. Finally, records of Amphicerus bimaculatus from Azerbaijan, of Bostrichus capucinus (Linnaeus, 1758) from Jordan and Syria, of Scobicia chevrieri from Jordan and Italy, of Xyloperthella picea from Italy, and of Apate monachus from Corsica (France) and Italy, are also provided.peer-reviewe

Dasht-e-Soos, more sentimental and more philosophical, amazing, fascinating and astonishing dispassionate analysis of a bye gone age of Muslim history, One can imagine that the main player of Jamila Hashmi's this novel would be Hussain Bin Mansur Hillaj. However throughout the story one cannot escape the overbearing aroma of "Aghul" and other characters. This was an unexpected love story or at least with an unusual diction that one does not come across in Urdu fiction .Many of the critics expected a story that would bring out Hillaj as he was commonly imagined but Jamila Hashmi had done a lot of historical and theoretical research to write about the Sufi Saint's inner journey. Someone who challenged the Status -quo of religion in 9th century Baghdad. But Jamila Hashmi's interest was in writing about the journey which started with Aghul"and ended with every bit of Hillaj's body, as it was hung by the king's decree and then chopped into pieces , screaming Anal Haq.</p

Obesity is a growing concern in many parts of the world, and its association with various metabolic and cardiovascular conditions has been well-documented. This study aimed to investigate the effect of obesity on triglycerides, uric acid, and blood pressure in individuals living in Aden, Yemen. A total of 100 participants were included in this study, which was conducted in June 2024 at a diagnostic lab in Aden Hospitals. The results showed that a significant percentage of participants had elevated levels of triglycerides (76%) and uric acid (54%), while over half of the participants (53%) had high blood pressure. Furthermore, there was a significant association between obesity and elevated triglyceride levels, with a p-value of less than 0.05. Other significant relationships were found between triglycerides and age, residence, as well as between uric acid and place of residence. These findings highlight the importance of addressing obesity in the context of metabolic and cardiovascular health in Aden, Yemen
