Analysis of Three-Dimensional Spatial Selectivity for Rician Channel
The spatial selectivity of multipath fading determines the spatial diversity strategy to increase the performance of the communication system. This paper analyses the three-dimensional (3-D) spatial selectivity of Rician channel to strive to alleviate the current lack of analytical studies. A~3-D multipath angular power density (APD) model for Rician channel is proposed. Analytical expressions of the 3-D multipath shape factors are given based on the APD using the multipath shape factors theory. Finally, some important spatial fading statistics like the fading rate variance, level crossing rate (LCR), average fade duration (AFD), spatial correlation and coherence distance are derived, and the analysis on the impact of 3-D spatial angular directions on these spatial fading statistics is presented through simulations. The results would provide useful insight on quantifying and simplifying the analysis and design of the 3-D multiple input multiple output (MIMO) beamforming technology and smart antenna arrays
3D sunken relief generation from a single image by feature line enhancement
Sunken relief is an art form whereby the depicted shapes are sunk into a given flat plane with a shallow overall depth. In this paper, we propose an efficient sunken relief generation algorithm based on a single image by the technique of feature line enhancement. Our method starts from a single image. First, we smoothen the image with morphological operations such as opening and closing operations and extract the feature lines by comparing the values of adjacent pixels. Then we apply unsharp masking to sharpen the feature lines. After that, we enhance and smoothen the local information to obtain an image with less burrs and jaggies. Differential operations are applied to produce the perceptive relief-like images. Finally, we construct the sunken relief surface by triangularization which transforms two-dimensional information into a three-dimensional model. The experimental results demonstrate that our method is simple and efficient
A Field-directional Specific Heat Study on the Gap Structure of Overdoped Ba(FeCo)As
Low-temperature specific heat is measured on the overdoped
Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 (x = 0.13) single crystal under magnetic fields along
three different directions. A clear anisotropy is observed on the field
dependent electronic specific heat coefficient {\gamma}(H). The value of
{\gamma}(H) is obviously larger with magnetic field along [001] (c-axis) than
that within the ab-plane of the crystal lattice, which cannot be attributed to
the effect by anisotropy of the upper critical field. Meanwhile, the data show
a rather small difference when the direction of the field is rotated from [100]
to [110] direction within the ab-plane. Our results suggest that a considerable
part of the line nodes is not excited to contribute to the quasiparticle
density of states by the field when the field is within the ab-plane. The
constraints on the topology of the gap nodes are discussed based on our

Rapid screening for chromosomal aneuploidies using array-MLPA
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Chromosome abnormalities, especially trisomy of chromosome 21, 13, or 18 as well as sex chromosome aneuploidy, are a well-established cause of pregnancy loss. Cultured cell karyotype analysis and FISH have been considered reliable detectors of fetal abnormality. However, results are usually not available for 3-4 days or more. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) has emerged as an alternative rapid technique for detection of chromosome aneuploidies. However, conventional MLPA does not allow for relative quantification of more than 50 different target sequences in one reaction and does not detect mosaic trisomy. A multiplexed MLPA with more sensitive detection would be useful for fetal genetic screening.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We developed a method of array-based MLPA to rapidly screen for common aneuploidies. We designed 116 universal tag-probes covering chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X, and Y, and 8 control autosomal genes. We performed MLPA and hybridized the products on a 4-well flow-through microarray system. We determined chromosome copy numbers by analyzing the relative signals of the chromosome-specific probes.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In a blind study of 161 peripheral blood and 12 amniotic fluid samples previously karyotyped, 169 of 173 (97.7%) including all the amniotic fluid samples were correctly identified by array-MLPA. Furthermore, we detected two chromosome X monosomy mosaic cases in which the mosaism rates estimated by array-MLPA were basically consistent with the results from karyotyping. Additionally, we identified five Y chromosome abnormalities in which G-banding could not distinguish their origins for four of the five cases.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our study demonstrates the successful application and strong potential of array-MLPA in clinical diagnosis and prenatal testing for rapid and sensitive chromosomal aneuploidy screening. Furthermore, we have developed a simple and rapid procedure for screening copy numbers on chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X, and Y using array-MLPA.</p

General anesthetic action profile on the human prefrontal cortex cells through comprehensive single-cell RNA-seq analysis
The cellular and molecular actions of general anesthetics to induce anesthesia state and also cellular signaling changes for subsequent potential "long term" effects remain largely elusive. General anesthetics were reported to act on voltage-gated ion channels and ligand-gated ion channels. Here we used single-cell RNA-sequencing complemented with whole-cell patch clamp and calcium transient techniques to examine the gene transcriptome and ion channels profiling of sevoflurane and propofol, both commonly used clinically, on the human fetal prefrontal cortex (PFC) mixed cell cultures. Both propofol and sevoflurane at clinically relevant dose/concentration promoted "microgliosis" but only sevoflurane decreased microglia transcriptional similarity. Propofol and sevoflurane each extensively but transiently (<2 h) altered transcriptome profiling across microglia, excitatory neurons, interneurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocyte progenitor cells. Utilizing scRNA-seq as a robust and high-through put tool, our work may provide a comprehensive blueprint for future mechanistic studies of general anesthetics in clinically relevant settings
Measurement of branching ratio and Bs0 lifetime in the decay Bs0 -> J/psi f0(980) at CDF
We present a study of Bs0 decays to the CP-odd final state J/psi f0(980) with
J/psi -> mu+ mu- and f0(980) -> pi+ pi-. Using ppbar collision data with an
integrated luminosity of 3.8/fb collected by the CDF II detector at the
Tevatron we measure a Bs0 lifetime of tau(Bs0 -> J/psi f0(980)) = 1.70
-0.11+0.12(stat) +-0.03(syst) ps. This is the first measurement of the Bs0
lifetime in a decay to a CP eigenstate and corresponds in the standard model to
the lifetime of the heavy Bs0 eigenstate. We also measure the product of
branching fractions of Bs0 -> J/psi f0(980) and f0(980) -> pi+ pi- relative to
the product of branching fractions of Bs0 -> J/psi phi and phi -> K+ K- to be
R_f0/phi = 0.257 +_0.020(stat) +-0.014(syst), which is the most precise
determination of this quantity to date.Comment: accepted by Phys. Rev.
A search for resonant production of pairs in $4.8\ \rm{fb}^{-1}p\bar{p}\sqrt{s}=1.96\ \rm{TeV}$
We search for resonant production of tt pairs in 4.8 fb^{-1} integrated
luminosity of ppbar collision data at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in the lepton+jets decay
channel, where one top quark decays leptonically and the other hadronically. A
matrix element reconstruction technique is used; for each event a probability
density function (pdf) of the ttbar candidate invariant mass is sampled. These
pdfs are used to construct a likelihood function, whereby the cross section for
resonant ttbar production is estimated, given a hypothetical resonance mass and
width. The data indicate no evidence of resonant production of ttbar pairs. A
benchmark model of leptophobic Z \rightarrow ttbar is excluded with m_{Z'} <

Combined search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a bb pair using the full CDF data set
We combine the results of searches for the standard model Higgs boson based
on the full CDF Run II data set obtained from sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV p-pbar
collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron corresponding to an integrated luminosity
of 9.45/fb. The searches are conducted for Higgs bosons that are produced in
association with a W or Z boson, have masses in the range 90-150 GeV/c^2, and
decay into bb pairs. An excess of data is present that is inconsistent with the
background prediction at the level of 2.5 standard deviations (the most
significant local excess is 2.7 standard deviations).Comment: To be published in Phys. Rev. Lett (v2 contains minor updates based

Observation of Exclusive Gamma Gamma Production in p pbar Collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We have observed exclusive \gamma\gamma production in proton-antiproton
collisions at \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, using data from 1.11 \pm 0.07 fb^{-1}
integrated luminosity taken by the Run II Collider Detector at Fermilab. We
selected events with two electromagnetic showers, each with transverse energy
E_T > 2.5 GeV and pseudorapidity |\eta| < 1.0, with no other particles detected
in -7.4 < \eta < +7.4. The two showers have similar E_T and azimuthal angle
separation \Delta\phi \sim \pi; 34 events have two charged particle tracks,
consistent with the QED process p \bar{p} to p + e^+e^- + \bar{p} by two-photon
exchange, while 43 events have no charged tracks. The number of these events
that are exclusive \pi^0\pi^0 is consistent with zero and is < 15 at 95% C.L.
The cross section for p\bar{p} to p+\gamma\gamma+\bar{p} with |\eta(\gamma)| <
1.0 and E_T(\gamma) > 2.5$ GeV is
