Introduction: The presence of increased ratio of obesity caused a rapid increase of bariatric surgery practice. In this study, our purpose is to clarify the histopathologic findings of the patients who have experienced this type of bariatric surgery and to learn more about the distinguishable features of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) specimens and to contribute to the related literature. Methods: A retrospective study was designed with the histopathologic findings from pathology specimens of 109 patients who experienced LSG between April 2014 and May 2016. To collect essential data, we used the database system of our institution that contains all of the selected patients for our study. Results: Overall, the average age was 36.2 years, and 85 were female while 24 were male. The principal histopathologic features were active chronic gastritis in 9, chronic gastritis in 68, atrophy in 5, and intestinal metaplasia in 8 patients. In two patients, gastrointestinal stromal tumor was found and in another patient, neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia was found. In addition to the dominant histopathologic features including chronic and active chronic gastritis, a small percent of patients had clinically significant pathologic findings in the sleeve gastrectomy specimens and this may have an effect on postoperative management and morbidity. Conclusion: Considering these results, having histopathologic examination of the sleeve gastrectomy specimens as a standard procedure is strongly recommended

This brief study introduces a partially working concept being developed at IT4Innovations supercomputer (HPC) facility. This concept consists of several modules that form a whole body of an efficient system for observation of terrain or objects displacements using satellite SAR interferometry (InSAR). A metadata database helps to locate data stored in various storages and to perform basic analyzes. A special database has been designed to describe Sentinel-1 data, on its burst level. Custom Sentinel-1 TOPS processing algorithms allow an injection of coregistered bursts into the database. Once the area of interest is set and basic processing parameters are given, the selected data are merged and processed by the Persistent Scatterers (PS) InSAR method or an optimized Small Baselines (SB) InSAR derivative. Depending on the expected deliverables, the processing results can be post-analyzed using a custom approach, in order to achieve a set of reliable measurement points. Final results can be post-processed and visualized using a custom GIS toolbox, consisting in open-source GIS functionality. The GIS post-processing is enforced by HPC power as well. To demonstrate the practical applicability of the described system, a subsidence area in Konya city, Turkey is used as the study area for Sentinel-1 InSAR evaluation

The influence of film genres on contemporary novel. Forms and representations of the Film noir and the Western movies in French and Anglo-American novels since 1980

This thesis examines the influence of the film noir and Western movies on contemporary French and Anglo-American novels from the beginning of the nineteen-eighties. The impact of the cinema on present-day novels is now self-evident and is the object of many critical studies, but the question of the particular influence of film genres has only been considered to a limited extent. However, film noir and Westerns are two popular genres which have greatly marked cinephile writers. They have attracted novelists who have rediscovered the pleasure of narration after the relative decline of narrative fiction in the 1960s and 1970s, under the influence of the formalist avant-garde critics and the Nouveau Roman. The corpus here will study novels and short stories from the United Kingdom (Martin Amis, Angela Carter), the United States (Paul Auster, Robert Coover) and France (Patrick Chatelier, Jean Echenoz, Christine Montalbetti, Tanguy Viel). These fictional works are marked by film genres: we can observe various types of interchanges between the literary and filmic codes of film noir and Westerns marked by the presence of stylistic devices, such as settings, characters, narrative situations, aesthetic and filmic techniques. The study of these processes of intersemiotic transposition is based on the intersemioticity theory (Louvel) and on the filmic genericity theory (Altman). We will bring out the methods and the challenges of transposing the genre codes, showing how the playful, ironic or parodic relation to the stereotypes and myths of film genres has transformed the novel allowing it to shed a new critical light on its usual conventions

Cutaneous syncytial myoepithelioma: A potential pitfall in the differential diagnosis of superfi cial dermal tumors

    No full text
In the spectrum of myoepithelial tumors of the skin, cutaneous myoepithelioma is composed solely of myoepithelial cells. Cutaneous syncytial myoepithelioma as a rare histological variant of cutaneous myoepithelioma has been fi rst described in the last decade. This tumor is benign and rarely shows recurrence when incompletely resected. In addition to its distinctive common histological and immunohistochemical features, cutaneous syncytial myoepithelioma shares the same changes for most cases in molecular testing (EWS RNA binding protein 1 gene rearrangement). The differential diagnosis of other superfi cial dermal tumors is one of the major diffi culties in the diagnosis of this tumor. In the current study, we present our fi ndings of a 56 year-old woman who was diagnosed as cutaneous syncytial myoepithelioma.</p

WOS: 000346120200005PubMed: 25216129Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different implant angulations and attachment configurations on the retentive forces of locator attachment-retained overdentures over a simulated time period of 6 months. Materials and Methods: Two acrylic resin models (models 1 and 2) were fabricated to represent an edentulous mandible. In model 1, the midline implant (in the central region) was vertical and the other two implants (in the canine regions) were 20 degrees divergent from the midline, reaching a total divergence of 40 degrees. In model 2, all three implants were vertically oriented, perpendicular to the occlusal plane and parallel to each other. Three-point vertical pull-out forces were employed in a universal testing machine at a constant crosshead speed of 50 mm/min after overdenture construction and a simulation of 6 months of repeated insertions/removals of the overdenture. Locator attachments with different male combinations and bar and clip attachments were tested in model 1. Clear locator attachments and bar and clip attachments were tested in model 2 and served as controls. Results: The initial retentive forces of all attachments in both models ranged from 26.58 to 62.05 N, whereas the initial retentive forces of the attachments for only model 1 ranged from 49.58 to 62.05 N. The highest retention value was recorded for clear green locator attachments and the lowest for hader bar yellow clip attachments. Locator attachments showed higher retention values than hader bar yellow clip attachments. Conclusion: All attachment systems demonstrated a decrease in retention over time. Locator attachments provided better retention than hader bar yellow clip attachments. The highest retention values were obtained when green male locators were used in combination with male attachments
