This work proposes a study on two recurrent themes in the narrative of Juan Marsé (1933-2020): memory and cinematography in a specific story: “Historia de detectives”. The short stories and novels of the Catalan author are usually based on his own experiences during the post-war period, but also on what he saw, read, heard and imagined. For this reason, in addition to his wanderings through the streets of Barcelona, his work incorporates elements from books, comics and films that merge with his memories sifted through the years. In this article we will discuss the way in which certain discursive strategies typical of the seventh art, as well as some of its characters, become part of this tale

The narrator and the duplicities in La Sombra, fantastic novel by Benito Pérez Galdós

La sombra is the first novel by the Canarian writer Benito Pérez Galdós (1843-1920). Although it did not obtain the same recognition as his realistic works, it has turned out to be an exemplary exponent of nineteenth-century Spanish fantastic literature. In this work, the function of its narrator will be mentioned as a "link" or "censorship", as it is one of the typical elements of the fantastic of the time. Likewise, the characteristics that make it belong to this genre will be highlighted, based on the definitions of Tzvetan Todorov, Ana María Barrenechea and Ana María Morales, among other theorists. Finally, the different types of duplicity presented in the work —objective and subjective; physical and psychological— will be studied, and the motives that make La sombra a representative of the transition from the fantastic terrifying to the fantastic interior will be explainedLa sombra es la primera novela del escritor canario Benito Pérez Galdós (1843-1920).

    Get PDF
Some stories by Guadalupe Dueñas are addressed that denote a rejection of certain human qualities, such as adulthood —from the child's perspective, or vice versa—, obesity, physical disability and race, aspects that lead to the abject from the perspective of narrators or protagonists. Likewise, the aversion to poverty is highlighted from the perspective of characters from a wealthy class, as well as the contempt and fear that dirt or certain customs of the less favored produce in them. It is also observed how in most cases these disparities lead to situations of cruelty, violence and even death. The study is based on the theories of Julia Kristeva, Mikhail Bakhtin and Paul Ricoeur regarding otherness and abjection.

Santa Vela's voice in "Las madres negras", by Patricia Esteban Erlés

    Get PDF
The narrative of Patricia Esteban Erlés has given, from the beginning, a strong relevance to the spaces where the action takes place. Some of them are inspired by the properties of novels and films, as in the case of Manderley –the mansion of the film "Rebecca", by Hitchcock– and the Winchester Mistery House. The main setting of the novel "Las madres negras", the convent of Santa Vela, is a crucial element for the conformation of the gothic, the sinister and the fantastic, features that are masterfully combined in this work. This paper highlights the architectural characteristics of the space and its relationship with the plot of the novel. It also approaches the protagonism of the building as a character, the importance of its voice throughout the novel and the projection of the mind of its original owner in its construction, based on the theory of Maria Tatar, Sigmund Freud, Anthony Vidler and Gaston Bachelard, among others

This work proposes to analyze the story "La fiebre azul", by Cristina Fernández Cubas, with the objective of determining the influence of the exoticism of the African country where the plot is developed, where superstitions and old beliefs are part of the daily life, in the appearance of the fantastic event. Likewise, it studies the unfolding of the protagonist's personality, a fact that constitutes an illegality in the story, in order to understand its causes and to unravel the metaphor it implies. Introduction: We present the protocol of a large population-based case-control study of 5 common tumors in Spain (MCC-Spain) that evaluates environmental exposures and genetic factors. Methods: Between 2008-2013, 10,183 persons aged 20-85 years were enrolled in 23 hospitals and primary care centres in 12 Spanish provinces including 1,115 cases of a new diagnosis of prostate cancer, 1,750 of breast cancer, 2,171 of colorectal cancer, 492 of gastro-oesophageal cancer, 554 cases of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and 4,101 population-based controls matched by frequency to cases by age, sex and region of residence. Participation rates ranged from 57% (stomach cancer) to 87% (CLL cases) and from 30% to 77% in controls. Participants completed a face-to-face computerized interview on sociodemographic factors, environmental exposures, occupation, medication, lifestyle, and personal and family medical history. In addition, participants completed a self-administered food-frequency questionnaire and telephone interviews. Blood samples were collected from 76% of participants while saliva samples were collected in CLL cases and participants refusing blood extractions. Clinical information was recorded for cases and paraffin blocks and/or fresh tumor samples are available in most collaborating hospitals. Genotyping was done through an exome array enriched with genetic markers in specific pathways. Multiple analyses are planned to assess the association of environmental, personal and genetic risk factors for each tumor and to identify pleiotropic effects. Discussion: This study, conducted within the Spanish Consortium for Biomedical Research in Epidemiology & Public Health (CIBERESP), is a unique initiative to evaluate etiological factors for common cancers and will promote cancer research and prevention in Spain. The study was partially funded by the “Accion Transversal del Cancer”, approved on the Spanish Ministry Council on the 11th October 2007, by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III-FEDER (PI08/1770, PI08/0533, PI08/1359, PS09/00773, PS09/01286, PS09/01903, PS09/02078, PS09/01662, PI11/01403, PI11/01889, PI11/00226, PI11/01810, PI11/02213, PI12/00488, PI12/00265, PI12/01270, PI12/00715, PI12/00150), by the Fundación Marqués de Valdecilla (API 10/09), by the ICGC International Cancer Genome Consortium CLL, by the Junta de Castilla y León (LE22A10-2), by the Consejería de Salud of the Junta de Andalucía (PI-0571), by the Conselleria de Sanitat of the Generalitat Valenciana (AP 061/10), by the Recercaixa (2010ACUP 00310), by the Regional Government of the Basque Country by European Commission grants FOOD-CT- 2006-036224-HIWATE, by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) Scientific Foundation, by the The Catalan Government DURSI grant 2009SGR1489

Optimasi Portofolio Resiko Menggunakan Model Markowitz MVO Dikaitkan dengan Keterbatasan Manusia dalam Memprediksi Masa Depan dalam Perspektif Al-Qur`an

Risk portfolio on modern finance has become increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. Since companies cannot insure themselves completely against risk, as human incompetence in predicting the future precisely that written in Al-Quran surah Luqman verse 34, they have to manage it to yield an optimal portfolio. The objective here is to minimize the variance among all portfolios, or alternatively, to maximize expected return among all portfolios that has at least a certain expected return. Furthermore, this study focuses on optimizing risk portfolio so called Markowitz MVO (Mean-Variance Optimization). Some theoretical frameworks for analysis are arithmetic mean, geometric mean, variance, covariance, linear programming, and quadratic programming. Moreover, finding a minimum variance portfolio produces a convex quadratic programming, that is minimizing the objective function ðð¥with constraintsð ð 𥠥 ðandð´ð¥ = ð. The outcome of this research is the solution of optimal risk portofolio in some investments that could be finished smoothly using MATLAB R2007b software together with its graphic analysis
