Brand gender and consumer-based brand equity on Facebook: The mediating role of consumer-brand engagement and brand love
Brand gender has been suggested as a relevant source of consumer-based brand equity (CBBE). The purpose of this paper is to deepen understanding of the relationship between brand gender and CBBE by analyzing the mediating roleofconsumer–brandengagement (CBE)andbrandlove(BL)onthisrelationship.Thisresearchwas conducted on Facebook, the dominant global social media platform. The hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. Results support 6 of the 9 hypotheses, with a significant relationship between analyzed constructs. This study advances prior work by showing that brand gender has an indirect and relevant impact on CBBE through BL and CBE. Therefore, this research confirms the advantages of clear gender positioning and extends prior research by suggesting that brands with a strong gender identity will encourage BL and CB
“I’m sorry you don’t flag it when you advertise”: audience and commercial content on the Sofia Barbosa YouTube channel
The main theme of the article is the context of digital microcelebrity experienced by children
and adolescents, particularly on social networking sites such as YouTube. The purpose of
the study is to understand how young audiences of the popular Portuguese channel Sofia Barbosa
on YouTube construct meaning about the commercial content and authenticity that the youtuber
presents. The methodology used is qualitative bias and netnography is employed in analysing
1.961 comments made by subscribers on 10 videos posted between January and October 2018. As
a means of better understanding the context of the comments we also analysed the visual, verbal and commercial aspects of the videos. The comments demonstrate a perception on the part of
followers of closeness and intimacy in relation to Sofia and a strong acceptance of the commercial
content promoted by the young woman. However, critical reflections about the marketing
practices of the youtuber can at various times be perceived, namely on the lack of transparency in
commercial relations; this presents itself as an opportunity to balance a romanticised view that
many subscribers have of microcelebrities with a more rational understanding of the industry
that sustains them.
O objetivo do trabalho
Nutritional status and quality of life in HIV-infected patients
Introduction: Nutritional status and the progression of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are interlinked; though some studies have looked at the impact nutritional status has on quality of life (QoL) in patients with chronic diseases, few have studied this in HIV-infected individuals. Objective: To investigate the relationship between nutritional status and QoL in adults with a recent HIV diagnosis. Methods: Individuals with an HIV diagnosis performed in the fourteen months prior to a medical visit to one of Lisbon’s central hospitals were eligible. Nutritional status was assessed by anthropometry, body composition analysis, and dietary intake. QoL was assessed using the WHOQOLHIV-BREF questionnaire. Sociodemographic and clinical data were also considered. Results: Fifty-one subjects were eligible for enrollment; the majority were male, Caucasian, employed, single, and under highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Lower QoL scores were observed in subjects with inadequate energy intakes, reported weight loss, and a high waist circumference in bivariate analysis (p < 0.05); the same variables influenced QoL negatively after adjusting for confounders in multivariate analysis (p < 0.05). Various sociodemographic characteristics such as level of education, age, gender, and current health problems also predicted QoL significantly (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Various aspects of nutritional status were responsible for the variations observed in QoL, suggesting a potential for nutritional intervention in improving QoL in this population.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Ontogenetic and sexual variation in the sagitta otolith of Menticirrhus americanus (Teleostei; Sciaenidae) (Linnaeus, 1758) in a subtropical environment
This study aimed to verify variations in the form of the sagitta otolith of Menticirrhus americanus as to their ontogeny, sex and stage of such structure. Ontogenetically were found significant differences (p < 0.05) for all shape indices (aspect ratios, shape factor, rectangularity, ellipticity, relative surface of sulcus acusticus) and also in the wavelet of the otolith. The CVA presented a 98.6% correct reclassification of the otolith between interval class. Sexual variations were found in the wavelet and in the relative surface of sulcus acusticus index. Between adult females and young females, differences were not detected in the wavelet and rectangularity, but significant differences were found in all other shape indices. The CVA presented a 79.6% correct reclassification of the otolith of the sexes and stages of life sampled. Young females and adults females showed highest correct percentage of classification. The results of this study demonstrate for the first time the influence of the ontogenetic variation and sexual in the form of the otoliths.Fil: Maichak de Carvalho, Barbara. Does the closed fishing season influence the ichthyofauna consumed by Larus dominicanus?
Fish that are incidentally caught by shrimp trawling represent a predictable and abundant resource for feeding several bird species, especially for the gull Larus dominicanus. This fishing activity is subject to disruptions throughout the year during closed fishing seasons, when other fishing modalities are exercised, which can alter the composition, abundance and size of the fish bycatch. This study evaluated the influence of the restriction of fishing period of shrimp (closed season) on the diet of L. dominicanus, on the Paraná State coast. From December 2013 to August 2014, 10 pellets were collected per month in two distinct areas that have shrimp trawl fishery as the main economic activity: one continental and another in an estuarine island. In total, 920 fish were identified, divided into four families and 15 species, especially the family Sciaenidae with 11 species. There were differences in abundance and biomass of species between areas and between seasons of pre-closure, closure and post-closure. Differences for the mean total length of the species were only detected between the pre-closed and closed seasons in one area. This study evidenced the strong relationship between L. dominicanus and the shrimp trawl fishery, the species composition identified in the pellets and their respective morphometric measurements follow the same pattern of the literature for fish discarded in trawling activities.
The origin of man: Biological Sciences and Pedagogy students’ conceptions
This study aims at analyzing Biological Sciences and Pedagogy University students’ conceptions on the topic origin of man. It was carried out at the University Center of Formiga, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The analysis focused on the answers to the question of the European questionnaire Biohead-CITIZEN “A.62 — In the list below, tick the three expressions you think are most strongly associated with the origin of humankind” with the following answer alternatives: Adam and Eve; Australopithecus; Creation; Evolution; God; Natural selection. The alternatives associated to the theory of evolution were prevalent among students of Biological Sciences, but the number of future biologists that indicated the alternatives linked to the religious field was not negligible, especially the alternative “God”. In the second semester of Biological Sciences, the most marked option was “God” whereas in the sixth semester the most marked one was “Evolution”, indicating the progress throughout the course towards the Theory of Evolution. Pedagogy students indicated predominantly alternatives linked to the religious field, since in all Pedagogy semesters both “God” and “Creation” answers were the most selected ones. These results are relevant since these future teachers may use their religious views when teaching their students the theme of the origin of life in sciences classes.CIEC - Centro de Investigação em Estudos da Criança, IE, UMinho (UI 317 da FCT)Projeto Estratégico da FCT: UID/CED/00317/201
Microhomology-mediated mechanisms underlie non-recurrent disease-causing microdeletions of the FOXL2 gene or its regulatory domain
Genomic disorders are often caused by recurrent copy number variations (CNVs), with nonallelic homologous recombination (NAHR) as the underlying mechanism. Recently, several microhomology-mediated repair mechanisms-such as microhomology-mediated end-joining (MMEJ), fork stalling and template switching (FoSTeS), microhomology-mediated break-induced replication (MMBIR), serial replication slippage (SRS), and break-induced SRS (BISRS)-were described in the etiology of non-recurrent CNVs in human disease. In addition, their formation may be stimulated by genomic architectural features. It is, however, largely unexplored to what extent these mechanisms contribute to rare, locus-specific pathogenic CNVs. Here, fine-mapping of 42 microdeletions of the FOXL2 locus, encompassing FOXL2 (32) or its regulatory domain (10), serves as a model for rare, locus-specific CNVs implicated in genetic disease. These deletions lead to blepharophimosis syndrome (BPES), a developmental condition affecting the eyelids and the ovary. For breakpoint mapping we used targeted array-based comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH), quantitative PCR (qPCR), long-range PCR, and Sanger sequencing of the junction products. Microhomology, ranging from 1 bp to 66 bp, was found in 91.7% of 24 characterized breakpoint junctions, being significantly enriched in comparison with a random control sample. Our results show that microhomology-mediated repair mechanisms underlie at least 50% of these microdeletions. Moreover, genomic architectural features, like sequence motifs, non-B DNA conformations, and repetitive elements, were found in all breakpoint regions. In conclusion, the majority of these microdeletions result from microhomology-mediated mechanisms like MMEJ, FoSTeS, MMBIR, SRS, or BISRS. Moreover, we hypothesize that the genomic architecture might drive their formation by increasing the susceptibility for DNA breakage or promote replication fork stalling. Finally, our locus-centered study, elucidating the etiology of a large set of rare microdeletions involved in a monogenic disorder, can serve as a model for other clustered, non-recurrent microdeletions in genetic disease
A partir do presente estudo
