Por ello, connotados especialistas analizan factores socioeconómicos del sistema agroalimentario mexicano en el contexto de las relaciones comerciales con Estados Unidos y Canadá.     El V Congreso Internacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación para la Sociedad, CITIS 2019, realizado del 6 al 8 de febrero de 2019 y organizado por la Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, ofreció a la comunidad académica nacional e internacional una plataforma de comunicación unificada, dirigida a cubrir los problemas teóricos y prácticos de mayor impacto en la sociedad moderna desde la ingeniería. En esta edición, dedicada a los 25 años de vida de la UPS, los ejes temáticos estuvieron relacionados con la aplicación de la ciencia, el desarrollo tecnológico y la innovación en cinco pilares fundamentales de nuestra sociedad: la industria, la movilidad, la sostenibilidad ambiental, la información y las telecomunicaciones. El comité científico estuvo conformado formado por 48 investigadores procedentes de diez países: España, Reino Unido, Italia, Bélgica, México, Venezuela, Colombia, Brasil, Estados Unidos y Ecuador. Fueron recibidas un centenar de contribuciones, de las cuales 39 fueron aprobadas en forma de ponencias y 15 en formato poster. Estas contribuciones fueron presentadas de forma oral ante toda la comunidad académica que se dio cita en el Congreso, quienes desde el aula magna, el auditorio y la sala de usos múltiples de la Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, cumplieron respetuosamente la responsabilidad de representar a toda la sociedad en la revisión, aceptación y validación del conocimiento nuevo que fue presentado en cada exposición por los investigadores. Paralelo a las sesiones técnicas, el Congreso contó con espacios de presentación de posters científicos y cinco workshops en temáticas de vanguardia que cautivaron la atención de nuestros docentes y estudiantes. También en el marco del evento se impartieron un total de ocho conferencias magistrales en temas tan actuales como la gestión del conocimiento en la universidad-ecosistema, los retos y oportunidades de la industria 4.0, los avances de la investigación básica y aplicada en mecatrónica para el estudio de robots de nueva generación, la optimización en ingeniería con técnicas multi-objetivo, el desarrollo de las redes avanzadas en Latinoamérica y los mundos, la contaminación del aire debido al tránsito vehicular, el radón y los riesgos que representa este gas radiactivo para la salud humana, entre otros

    Interpretation: By quantifying levels and trends in exposures to risk factors and the resulting disease burden, this assessment offers insight into where past policy and programme efforts might have been successful and highlights current priorities for public health action. Decreases in behavioural, environmental, and occupational risks have largely offset the effects of population growth and ageing, in relation to trends in absolute burden. Conversely, the combination of increasing metabolic risks and population ageing will probably continue to drive the increasing trends in non-communicable diseases at the global level, which presents both a public health challenge and opportunity. We see considerable spatiotemporal heterogeneity in levels of risk exposure and risk-attributable burden. Although levels of development underlie some of this heterogeneity, O/E ratios show risks for which countries are overperforming or underperforming relative to their level of development. As such, these ratios provide a benchmarking tool to help to focus local decision making. Our findings reinforce the importance of both risk exposure monitoring and epidemiological research to assess causal connections between risks and health outcomes, and they highlight the usefulness of the GBD study in synthesising data to draw comprehensive and robust conclusions that help to inform good policy and strategic health planning

    Reducing the environmental impact of surgery on a global scale: systematic review and co-prioritization with healthcare workers in 132 countries

    Abstract Background Healthcare cannot achieve net-zero carbon without addressing operating theatres. The aim of this study was to prioritize feasible interventions to reduce the environmental impact of operating theatres. Methods This study adopted a four-phase Delphi consensus co-prioritization methodology. In phase 1, a systematic review of published interventions and global consultation of perioperative healthcare professionals were used to longlist interventions. In phase 2, iterative thematic analysis consolidated comparable interventions into a shortlist. In phase 3, the shortlist was co-prioritized based on patient and clinician views on acceptability, feasibility, and safety. In phase 4, ranked lists of interventions were presented by their relevance to high-income countries and low–middle-income countries. Results In phase 1, 43 interventions were identified, which had low uptake in practice according to 3042 professionals globally. In phase 2, a shortlist of 15 intervention domains was generated. In phase 3, interventions were deemed acceptable for more than 90 per cent of patients except for reducing general anaesthesia (84 per cent) and re-sterilization of ‘single-use’ consumables (86 per cent). In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for high-income countries were: introducing recycling; reducing use of anaesthetic gases; and appropriate clinical waste processing. In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for low–middle-income countries were: introducing reusable surgical devices; reducing use of consumables; and reducing the use of general anaesthesia. Conclusion This is a step toward environmentally sustainable operating environments with actionable interventions applicable to both high– and low–middle–income countries

    Unravelling the relationship between mafic magmatism and Sb mineralization through dolerite geochemistry (Central Iberian Zone, Spain)

    International audienceThis work presents the preliminary results of geochemistry of mafic intrusions (diabase dykes) and their relationship with antimony mineralization in the Central-Iberian Zone (Variscan Belt). Two different areas were studied, the Almadén (Al) and the San Antonio (SA) areas.Both macroscopic and microscopic observations show that mafic dykes are mainly composed by clinopyroxene, plagioclase, Fe-Ti oxides and to a lesser extent of calcite and sulphides (pyrite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite). These samples are altered presenting chlorite and epidote as alteration minerals. Pyroxene is sometimes altered to amphibole.Whole rock geochemistry analyses from 20 samples show a difference between SA and Al dolerites. The first fall into the classical basalt field whereas the second fall into the alkali basalt field according to the Zr/TiO2 vs Nb/Y diagram. The tectonic setting for the SA samples coincides with the volcanic arc setting whereas the samples from Al fall into the within plate magmatism. Primitive mantle normalized diagrams display high negative anomalies in Rb, K, with small negative anomalies in Nb and Ta for both SA and Al. High positive anomalies for both areas in Cs, Pb (especially for SA) and Li accompanied by small positive anomalies in P and Ti can be observed. Dolerites from Al are more enriched in Ba, Th, U, Nb, Ba, La, Ce, Sr, P, Nd, Sn, Zr, Hf than SA. All samples are depleted in HREE and enriched in LREE. Anomalies in Rb, Nb, Ta and Li may be related with crustal contamination. Pb anomalies could be associated with assimilation of country rocks, especially marine sediments, this anomaly is also related to subduction processes. Positive P and Ti anomalies of some samples is due to the apatite and ilmenite enrichment respectively. Negative anomalies in K could be associated with presence of phlogopite in the source. Rare Earth Elements contents are compatible with the presence of garnet in the source and low degree of partial melting, this is consistent with the correlation between La/Sm vs Gd/Yb and La/Sm vs Rb. Trace element ratios such as Th/La (0,10 for SA) and (0,09 for Al) suggest an enriched mantle source.Some of these mafic intrusions were collected near antimony mineralization whereas the other are located at distance but in the same swarm of mafic dykes. A spatial and genetic link between Sb mineralization and mafic magmatism has been proposed in other parts of the Variscan Belt, especially in the Armorican Massif.The source of these Sb mineralization could be related to an enriched mantle with crustal contamination.     Mobilité de l'antimoine dans des environnements de surface contrastés d'un site minier : influence des conditions rédox et des communautés microbiennes

    International audienceMicrobial processes can influence the complex geochemical behaviour of the toxic metalloid antimony (Sb) in mining environments. The present study is aimed to evaluate the influence of microbial communities on the mobility of Sb from solid phases to water in different compartments and redox conditions of a mining site in southwest (SW) Spain. Samples of surface materials presenting high Sb concentrations, from two weathered mining waste dumps and an aquatic sediment were incubated in slurries comparing oxic and anoxic conditions. The initial microbial communities of the three materials strongly differed. Incubations induced an increase of microbial biomass and an evolution of the microbial communities' structures and compositions, which diverged in different redox conditions. The presence of active bacteria always influenced the mobility of Sb, except in the neutral pH waste incubated in oxic conditions. The effect of active microbial activities in oxic conditions was dependent on the material: Sb oxic release was biologically amplified with the acidic waste, but attenuated with the sediment. Different bacterial genera involved in Sb, Fe, and S oxidation or reduction were present and/or grew during incubation of each material. The results highlighted the wide diversity of microbial communities and metabolisms at the small geographic scale of a mining site and their strong implication in Sb mobility.Les processus microbiens peuvent influencer le comportement géochimique complexe de l’antimoine métalloïde (Sb) toxique dans les environnements miniers. La présente étude vise à évaluer l'influence des communautés microbiennes sur la mobilité du Sb des phases solides vers l'eau dans différents compartiments et conditions rédox d'un site minier du sud-ouest (SW) de l'Espagne. Des échantillons de matériaux de surface présentant des concentrations élevées de Sb, provenant de deux dépôts de déchets miniers et d'un sédiment aquatique, ont été incubés dans des boues comparant les conditions oxiques et anoxiques. Les communautés microbiennes initiales des trois matériaux différaient fortement. Les incubations ont induit une augmentation de la biomasse microbienne et une évolution des structures et compositions des communautés microbiennes, qui divergent selon les conditions rédox. La présence de bactéries actives a toujours influencé la mobilité du Sb, sauf dans les déchets à pH neutre incubés en conditions oxiques. L'effet des activités microbiennes actives dans des conditions oxiques dépendait du matériau : la libération de Sb en condition aérobie était biologiquement amplifiée avec les déchets acides, mais atténuée avec les sédiments. Différents genres bactériens impliqués dans l'oxydation ou la réduction de Sb, Fe et S étaient présents et/ou se sont développés pendant l'incubation de chaque matériau. Les résultats ont mis en évidence la grande diversité des communautés microbiennes et des métabolismes à la petite échelle géographique d’un site minier et leur forte implication dans la mobilité du Sb
