    We present a study of ten B-meson decays to a D(*), a proton-antiproton pair, and a system of up to two pions using BaBar's data set of 455x10^6 BBbar pairs. Four of the modes (B0bar -> D0 p anti-p, B0bar -> D*0 p anti-p, B0bar -> D+ p anti-p pi-, B0bar -> D*+ p anti-p pi-) are studied with improved statistics compared to previous measurements; six of the modes (B- -> D0 p anti-p pi-, B- -> D*0 p anti-p pi-, B0bar -> D0 p anti-p pi- pi+, B0bar -> D*0 p anti-p pi- pi+, B- -> D+ p anti-p pi- pi-, B- -> D*+ p anti-p pi- pi-) are first observations. The branching fractions for 3- and 5-body decays are suppressed compared to 4-body decays. Kinematic distributions for 3-body decays show non-overlapping threshold enhancements in m(p anti-p) and m(D(*)0 p) in the Dalitz plots. For 4-body decays, m(p pi-) mass projections show a narrow peak with mass and full width of (1497.4 +- 3.0 +- 0.9) MeV/c2, and (47 +- 12 +- 4) MeV/c2, respectively, where the first (second) errors are statistical (systematic). For 5-body decays, mass projections are similar to phase space expectations. All results are preliminary.Comment: 28 pages, 90 postscript figures, submitted to LP0

    Measurement of CP-violation asymmetries in D0 to Ks pi+ pi-

    Get PDF
    We report a measurement of time-integrated CP-violation asymmetries in the resonant substructure of the three-body decay D0 to Ks pi+ pi- using CDF II data corresponding to 6.0 invfb of integrated luminosity from Tevatron ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The charm mesons used in this analysis come from D*+(2010) to D0 pi+ and D*-(2010) to D0bar pi-, where the production flavor of the charm meson is determined by the charge of the accompanying pion. We apply a Dalitz-amplitude analysis for the description of the dynamic decay structure and use two complementary approaches, namely a full Dalitz-plot fit employing the isobar model for the contributing resonances and a model-independent bin-by-bin comparison of the D0 and D0bar Dalitz plots. We find no CP-violation effects and measure an asymmetry of ACP = (-0.05 +- 0.57 (stat) +- 0.54 (syst))% for the overall integrated CP-violation asymmetry, consistent with the standard model prediction.Comment: 15 page

    Search for rare quark-annihilation decays, B --> Ds(*) Phi

    Full text link
    We report on searches for B- --> Ds- Phi and B- --> Ds*- Phi. In the context of the Standard Model, these decays are expected to be highly suppressed since they proceed through annihilation of the b and u-bar quarks in the B- meson. Our results are based on 234 million Upsilon(4S) --> B Bbar decays collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. We find no evidence for these decays, and we set Bayesian 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions BF(B- --> Ds- Phi) Ds*- Phi)<1.2x10^(-5). These results are consistent with Standard Model expectations.Comment: 8 pages, 3 postscript figues, submitted to Phys. Rev. D (Rapid Communications

    Study of multi-muon events produced in p\bar{p} interactions at \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV

    68 pages, 46 figures, 11 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. D. Removed typos from the authors' listWe report the results of a study of multi-muon events produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider and acquired with the CDF II detector using a dedicated dimuon trigger. The production cross section and kinematics of events in which both muon candidates are produced inside the beam pipe of radius 1.5 cm are successfully modeled by known processes which include heavy flavor production. In contrast, we are presently unable to fully account for the number and properties of the remaining events, in which at least one muon candidate is produced outside of the beam pipe, in terms of the same understanding of the CDF II detector, trigger, and event reconstruction.Peer reviewe

    A Precision Measurement of the Lambda_c Baryon Mass

    Full text link
    The Λc+\Lambda_c^+ baryon mass is measured using Λc+→ΛKS0K+\Lambda_c^+\to\Lambda K^0_S K^+ and Λc+→Σ0KS0K+\Lambda_c^+\to\Sigma^0 K^0_S K^+ decays reconstructed in 232 fb−1^{-1} of data collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- storage ring. The Λc+\Lambda_c^+ mass is measured to be 2286.46±0.14MeV/c22286.46\pm0.14\mathrm{MeV}/c^2. The dominant systematic uncertainties arise from the amount of material in the tracking volume and from the magnetic field strength.Comment: 14 pages, 8 postscript figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

    Search for the Z1(4050)+Z_1(4050)^+ and Z2(4250)+Z_2(4250)^+ states in Bˉ0→χc1K−π+\bar B^0 \to \chi_{c1} K^- \pi^+ and B+→χc1KS0π+B^+ \to \chi_{c1} K^0_S \pi^+

    We search for the Z1(4050)+Z_1(4050)^+ and Z2(4250)+Z_2(4250)^+ states, reported by the Belle Collaboration, decaying to χc1π+\chi_{c1} \pi^+ in the decays Bˉ0→χc1K−π+\bar B^0 \to \chi_{c1} K^- \pi^+ and B+→χc1KS0π+B^+ \to \chi_{c1} K^0_S \pi^+ where \chi_{c1} \to \jpsi \gamma. The data were collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider operating at center-of-mass energy 10.58 GeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 429 fb−1^{-1}. In this analysis, we model the background-subtracted, efficiency-corrected χc1π\chi_{c1}\pi mass distribution using the KπK \pi mass distribution and the corresponding normalized KπK \pi Legendre polynomial moments, and then test the need for the inclusion of resonant structures in the description of the χc1π\chi_{c1}\pi mass distribution. No evidence is found for the Z1(4050)+Z_1(4050)^+ and Z2(4250)+Z_2(4250)^+ resonances, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are reported for the corresponding BB-meson decay modes.Comment: 15 pages, 12 postscript figures, to be published in Phys. Observation of CP violation in B ->eta/K-0 decays

    Get PDF
    We present measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters S and C in B-0 -> eta K-'(0) decays. The data sample corresponds to 384 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs produced by e(+)e(-) annihilation at the Upsilon(4S). The results are S = 0.58 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.03 and C = -0.16 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.03. We observe mixing-induced CP violation with a significance of 5.5 standard deviations in this b -> s penguin dominated mode

    A search for charmed baryons decaying to D 0 p reveals two states: the Λ c ( 2880 ) + baryon and a previously unobserved state at a mass of [ 2939.8 ± 1.3 ( stat ) ± 1.0 ( syst ) ]     MeV / c 2 and with an intrinsic width of [ 17.5 ± 5.2 ( stat ) ± 5.9 ( syst ) ]     MeV . Consistent and significant signals are observed for the K − π + and K − π + π − π + decay modes of the D 0 in 287     fb − 1 annihilation data recorded by the BABAR detector at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. There is no evidence in the D + p spectrum of doubly charged partners. The mass and intrinsic width of the Λ c ( 2880 ) + baryon and relative yield of the two baryons are also measured

    We present measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B-0 -> a(1)(+/-)(1260)pi(-/+) with a(1)(+/-)(1260)->pi(-/+)pi(+/-)pi(+/-). The data sample corresponds to 384x10(6) B(b) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory at SLAC. We measure the CP-violating asymmetry A(CP)(a1 pi)=-0.07 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.02, the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S-a1 pi=0.37 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.07, the direct CP violation parameter C-a1 pi=-0.10 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.09, and the parameters Delta C-a1 pi=0.26 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.07 and Delta S-a1 pi=-0.14 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.06. From these measured quantities we determine the angle alpha(eff)=78.6 degrees +/- 7.3 degrees
