Localized tachyon condensation and G-parity conservation

We study the condensation of localized tachyon in non-supersymmetric orbifold {\C^2/\Z_n}. We first show that the G-parities of chiral primaries are preserved under the condensation of localized tachyon(CLT) given by the chiral primaries. Using this, we finalize the proof of the conjecture that the lowest-tachyon-mass-squared increases under CLT at the level of type II string with full consideration of GSO projection. We also show the equivalence between the GG-parity given by G=[jk1/n]+[jk2/n]G=[jk_1/n]+ [jk_2/n] coming from partition function and that given by G={jk1/n}k2−{jk2/n}k1G=\{jk_1/n\}k_2 -\{jk_2/n\}k_1 coming from the monomial construction for the chiral primaires in the dual mirror picture.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, final form to appear in JHE

Phantom Accretion onto the Schwarzschild de-Sitter Black Hole

We deal with phantom energy accretion onto the Schwarzschild de-Sitter black hole. The energy flux conservation, relativistic Bernoulli equation and mass flux conservation equation are formulated to discuss the phantom accretion. We discuss the conditions for critical accretion. It is found that mass of the black hole decreases due to phantom accretion. There exist two critical points which lie in the exterior of horizons (black hole and cosmological horizons). The results for the phantom energy accretion onto the Schwarzschild black hole can be recovered by taking Λ→0\Lambda\rightarrow0.Comment: 9 pages, no figur

Superconformal Yang-Mills quantum mechanics and Calogero model with OSp(N|2,R) symmetry

In spacetime dimension two, pure Yang-Mills possesses no physical degrees of freedom, and consequently it admits a supersymmetric extension to couple to an arbitrary number, N say, of Majorana-Weyl gauginos. This results in (N,0) super Yang-Mills. Further, its dimensional reduction to mechanics doubles the number of supersymmetries, from N to N+N, to include conformal supercharges, and leads to a superconformal Yang-Mills quantum mechanics with symmetry group OSp(N|2,R). We comment on its connection to AdS_2 \times S^{N-1} and reduction to a supersymmetric Calogero model.Comment: 1+28 pages, no figure; Refs added. To appear in JHE

Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
A search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu decay channel, where l = e or mu, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC, with the CMS detector, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 inverse femtobarns. No significant excess is observed above the background expectation, and upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section. The presence of the standard model Higgs boson with a mass in the 270-440 GeV range is excluded at 95% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to JHE

Search for New Physics with Jets and Missing Transverse Momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
A search for new physics is presented based on an event signature of at least three jets accompanied by large missing transverse momentum, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns collected in proton--proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. No excess of events is observed above the expected standard model backgrounds, which are all estimated from the data. Exclusion limits are presented for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. Cross section limits are also presented using simplified models with new particles decaying to an undetected particle and one or two jets

Combined search for the quarks of a sequential fourth generation

    Get PDF
Results are presented from a search for a fourth generation of quarks produced singly or in pairs in a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 inverse femtobarns recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011. A novel strategy has been developed for a combined search for quarks of the up and down type in decay channels with at least one isolated muon or electron. Limits on the mass of the fourth-generation quarks and the relevant Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements are derived in the context of a simple extension of the standard model with a sequential fourth generation of fermions. The existence of mass-degenerate fourth-generation quarks with masses below 685 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level for minimal off-diagonal mixing between the third- and the fourth-generation quarks. With a mass difference of 25 GeV between the quark masses, the obtained limit on the masses of the fourth-generation quarks shifts by about +/- 20 GeV. These results significantly reduce the allowed parameter space for a fourth generation of fermions.Comment: Replaced with published version. Added journal reference and DO

Gravitational and Yang-Mills instantons in holographic RG flows

We study various holographic RG flow solutions involving warped asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE) spaces of AN−1A_{N-1} type. A two-dimensional RG flow from a UV (2,0) CFT to a (4,0) CFT in the IR is found in the context of (1,0) six dimensional supergravity, interpolating between AdS3×S3/ZNAdS_3\times S^3/\mathbb{Z}_N and AdS3×S3AdS_3\times S^3 geometries. We also find solutions involving non trivial gauge fields in the form of SU(2) Yang-Mills instantons on ALE spaces. Both flows are of vev type, driven by a vacuum expectation value of a marginal operator. RG flows in four dimensional field theories are studied in the type IIB and type Iâ€Č' context. In type IIB theory, the flow interpolates between AdS5×S5/ZNAdS_5\times S^5/\mathbb{Z}_N and AdS5×S5AdS_5\times S^5 geometries. The field theory interpretation is that of an N=2 SU(n)NSU(n)^N quiver gauge theory flowing to N=4 SU(n) gauge theory. In type Iâ€Č' theory the solution describes an RG flow from N=2 quiver gauge theory with a product gauge group to N=2 gauge theory in the IR, with gauge group USp(n)USp(n). The corresponding geometries are AdS5×S5/(ZN×Z2)AdS_5\times S^5/(\mathbb{Z}_N\times \mathbb{Z}_2) and AdS5×S5/Z2AdS_5\times S^5/\mathbb{Z}_2, respectively. We also explore more general RG flows, in which both the UV and IR CFTs are N=2 quiver gauge theories and the corresponding geometries are AdS5×S5/(ZN×Z2)AdS_5\times S^5/(\mathbb{Z}_N\times \mathbb{Z}_2) and AdS5×S5/(ZM×Z2)AdS_5\times S^5/(\mathbb{Z}_M\times \mathbb{Z}_2). Finally, we discuss the matching between the geometric and field theoretic pictures of the flows.Comment: 32 pages, 3 figures, typoe corrected and a reference adde

Measurement of the t t-bar production cross section in the dilepton channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
The t t-bar production cross section (sigma[t t-bar]) is measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in data collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in events with two leptons (electrons or muons) in the final state, at least two jets identified as jets originating from b quarks, and the presence of an imbalance in transverse momentum. The measured value of sigma[t t-bar] for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV is 161.9 +/- 2.5 (stat.) +5.1/-5.0 (syst.) +/- 3.6(lumi.) pb, consistent with the prediction of the standard model.Comment: Replaced with published version.
