The LIGO Open Science Center
The LIGO Open Science Center (LOSC) fulfills LIGO's commitment to release,
archive, and serve LIGO data in a broadly accessible way to the scientific
community and to the public, and to provide the information and tools necessary
to understand and use the data. In August 2014, the LOSC published the full
dataset from Initial LIGO's "S5" run at design sensitivity, the first such
large-scale release and a valuable testbed to explore the use of LIGO data by
non-LIGO researchers and by the public, and to help teach gravitational-wave
data analysis to students across the world. In addition to serving the S5 data,
the LOSC web portal (losc.ligo.org) now offers documentation, data-location and
data-quality queries, tutorials and example code, and more. We review the
mission and plans of the LOSC, focusing on the S5 data release.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, proceedings of the 10th LISA Symposium, University

The Sabbath in Modern Jewish Theology
Nekolicina protestantskih skupina, a najzapaženiji su adventisti, svetkuju šabat sedmog dana tjedna, kao i Židovi. No, zbog toga što većina kršćana svetkuje svoj šabat ili tjedni dan bogoslužja nedjeljom, oni često ne priznaju niti istražuju teološke izvore unutar judaizma za produbljenije kršćansko poštovanje tjednog šabata. Ovo poglavlje ispituje više ovih značajnijih izvora.A few Protestant groups, most notably the Seventh-day Adventists, observe the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week, as do Jews. But because most Christians celebrate their Sabbath, or weekly day of worship, on Sunday, they oft en do not recognize or explore the theological resources within Judaism for deepening Christianity’s appreciation of the weekly Sabbath. The present chapter surveys various of the more signifi cant of these resources
The CMS Integration Grid Testbed
The CMS Integration Grid Testbed (IGT) comprises USCMS Tier-1 and Tier-2
hardware at the following sites: the California Institute of Technology, Fermi
National Accelerator Laboratory, the University of California at San Diego, and
the University of Florida at Gainesville. The IGT runs jobs using the Globus
Toolkit with a DAGMan and Condor-G front end. The virtual organization (VO) is
managed using VO management scripts from the European Data Grid (EDG). Gridwide
monitoring is accomplished using local tools such as Ganglia interfaced into
the Globus Metadata Directory Service (MDS) and the agent based Mona Lisa.
Domain specific software is packaged and installed using the Distrib ution
After Release (DAR) tool of CMS, while middleware under the auspices of the
Virtual Data Toolkit (VDT) is distributed using Pacman. During a continuo us
two month span in Fall of 2002, over 1 million official CMS GEANT based Monte
Carlo events were generated and returned to CERN for analysis while being
demonstrated at SC2002. In this paper, we describe the process that led to one
of the world's first continuously available, functioning grids.Comment: CHEP 2003 MOCT01
Dendritic glycopolymers based on dendritic polyamine scaffolds: view on their synthetic approaches, characteristics and potential for biomedical applications
In this review we highlight the potential for biomedical applications of dendritic glycopolymers based on polyamine scaffolds. The complex interplay of the molecular characteristics of the dendritic architectures and their specific interactions with various (bio)molecules are elucidated with various examples. A special role of the individual sugar units attached to the dendritic scaffolds and their density is identified, which govern ionic and H-bond interactions, and biological targeting, but to a large extent are also responsible for the significantly reduced toxicity of the dendritic glycopolymers compared to their polyamine scaffolds. Thus, the application of dendritic glycopolymers in drug delivery systems for gene transfection but also as therapeutics in neurodegenerative diseases has great promisePublikacja w ramach programu Royal Society of Chemistry "Gold for Gold" 2014 finansowanego przez Uniwersytet Łódzk
Measurement of the B0-anti-B0-Oscillation Frequency with Inclusive Dilepton Events
The - oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of
23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II
asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B
mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the
flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference
distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives ps.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review Letter
