Comparative study of human age estimation based on hand-crafted and deep face features

    Get PDF
In the past few years, human facial age estimation has drawn a lot of attention in the computer vision and pattern recognition communities because of its important applications in age-based image retrieval, security control and surveillance, biomet- rics, human-computer interaction (HCI) and social robotics. In connection with these investigations, estimating the age of a person from the numerical analysis of his/her face image is a relatively new topic. Also, in problems such as Image Classification the Deep Neural Networks have given the best results in some areas including age estimation. In this work we use three hand-crafted features as well as five deep features that can be obtained from pre-trained deep convolutional neural networks. We do a comparative study of the obtained age estimation results with these features

Present status of development of damping ring extraction kicker system for CLIC

The CLIC damping rings will produce ultra-low emittance beam, with high bunch charge, necessary for the luminosity performance of the collider. To limit the beam emittance blow-up due to oscillations, the pulse power modulators for the damping ring kickers must provide extremely flat, high-voltage pulses: specifications call for a 160 ns duration and a flattop of 12.5 kV, 250 A, with a combined ripple and droop of not more than \pm0.02 %. The stripline design is also extremely challenging: the field for the damping ring kicker system must be homogenous to within \pm0.01 % over a 1 mm radius, and low beam coupling impedance is required. The solid-state modulator, the inductive adder, is a very promising approach to meeting the demanding specifications for the field pulse ripple and droop. This paper describes the initial design of the inductive adder and the striplines of the kicker system.Comment: Proceedings of LCWS'11, International Workshop on Future Linear Colliders, Granada, Spain 26-30 Sept 201

From Velázquez to Picasso: Proposal of Artistic Mediation Activities for People with Dementia

This paper describes the design of a program of activities of arts education for people with dementia based on visits to the Prado Museum and the Reina Sofia National Art Center Museum (Spanish anagram, MNCARS) of Madrid, and carried out by a team of researchers and artist-teachers. The program, called “Tenemos cita con el arte” (We have a date with art), in addition to the visits, included workshops of artistic activities. The basic aspects taken into account by the team of artist-teachers for the design of the itineraries in the two above-mentioned museums and the design of the artistic activities are specified. The museum itineraries, which included works of Velázquez and Goya (Prado Museum), and of Dalí, Juan Gris, Miró, Lipchitz, and Picasso (MNCARS) are described, as well as the artistic activities carried out by the participants, based on these itineraries. The considerations set out in this work can be extended to other are centers, so that they can be used as contexts for the promotion of the well-being and social inclusion of people with dementia by artist-teachers working in multidisciplinary teams.

Educación intercultural: una alternativa desde fuera de la escuela

    Get PDF
[Resumen] Se presenta una experiencia de educación intercultural realizada desde fuera de la escuela, concretamente desde la O.N.G. "Ecos do Sur".

Evolution and scientific visualization of Machine learning field

[EN] This article provides a retrospective and understanding of the development of automatic learning methods. The beginnings are visualized as a discipline within Computer Sciences in the subcategory of Artificial Intelligence, its development and the current transfer of knowledge to other areas of Engineering and its industrial applications. Based on the publications about machine learning and its application contained in the Web of Science database, records from 1986 to 2017 are downloaded. After a description of the technological profile, a new approach is introduced to the classification of a discipline based on the year of appearance of those terms that define it. Mining of technological texts and network theory has been applied to extract the terms and interpret their evolution. They are the those that define the stages of emergence, development and maturation of the discipline Machine learning. The novelty of this approach lies in the technical nature of applied research in Machine Learning, which aims to be a guide for the development of future engineering applications and to make technology transfer toindustry visible.Río-Belver, R.; Garechana, G.; Bildosola, I.; Zarrabeitia, E.
