Arqueología y patrimonio. Reflexiones desde la práctica

    Get PDF

Fox parasites in pre-Columbian times: Evidence from the past to understand the current helminth assemblages

    Get PDF
This work aims to increase the information on the entero-parasitism in Holocene carnivores, by examining coprolites found in Patagonia. Molecular analysis was conducted following the Authenticity Criteria to Determine Ancient DNA sequences. The nucleotide sequences showed 99% of identity with the Control Region sequences of Lycalopex culpaeus (culpeo fox). Coprolites were positive for gastrointestinal parasites. The presence of Alaria sp. and Clonorchis sp. represents the first record for pre-Columbian America. The parasitological findings suggest the importance of these carnivores for the dissemination of their own parasites and those to their prey in rockshelters, areas with high re-use of space.Fil: Fugassa, Martín Horacio. Dyeability of corona-treated fabrics

    Get PDF
In this study, corona technology is applied in the wet processing of cotton fabrics. The properties of cotton, such as hydrophilicity, ionisation and mechanical properties, are evaluated and compared with previous results of cuticle oxidation and morphological changes. The results of dyeings of coronatreated materials under different conditions are compared with those of raw, bleached and desized cotton. The dyeings are carried out with three different commercial direct dyes. The classical method for the processing of cotton materials and the corona discharge method are discussed and compared in order to analyse the advantages of this innovative process

Reducing Medical Admissions into Hospital through Optimising Medicines (REMAIN HOME) Study: Protocol for a stepped wedge, cluster randomised trial

    Get PDF
Introduction: A model of general practitioner (GP) and pharmacist collaboration in primary care may be an effective strategy to reduce medication-related problems and provide better support to patients after discharge. The aim of this study is to investigate whether a model of structured pharmacist and GP care reduces hospital readmissions in patients at risk of readmission. Methods and analysis: This protocol details a stepped wedge cluster randomised trial that will recruit participants over nine months with a 12 month follow up. There will be 14 clusters each representing a different general practice medical centre. A total of 2240 participants will be recruited from hospital who attend an enrolled medical centre, take five or more long-term medicines or whose reason for admission was related to heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The intervention is a multi-faceted service, involving a pharmacist integrated into a medical centre to assist patients after hospitalisation. Participants will meet with the practice pharmacist and their GP after discharge to review and reconcile their medicines and discuss changes made in hospital. The pharmacist will follow up with the participant and liaise with other health professionals involved in the participant’s care. The control will be usual care, which usually involves a patient self-organising a visit to their GP after hospital discharge. The primary outcome is the rate of unplanned, all-cause hospital readmissions over 12 months which will be analysed using a mixed effects Poisson regression model with a random effect for cluster and a fixed effect to account for any temporal trend. A cost analysis will be undertaken to compare the healthcare costs associated with the intervention to those of usual care

Feminine figures of power in the Roman Empire, from late 4th century to the middle of the 6th century. The empress, the aristocrat, the saint and the « Mother of God » in texts and iconography

During a period considered with inaccuracy as « transitional », between Antiquity and the Middle Ages,we observe the appearance of an increasing number of feminine figures in the highest power spheres, inthe Roman Empire. Empresses, aristocrats, saints, – all three at the same time –, these women possessinstitutional political powers, important patrimonial belongings and great wealth. All these elementsgive them a true independance. Generally reflecting a certain level of education and culture, thesewomen can play a part in the construction of buildings or the funding of the christian architecturallegacy. With the accesssion of the theodosian dynasty during the IVth century, then the Vth, a change is initiated.Women install themselves permanently on the stage where power is decided. In the case of the imperialsphere, empresses are mentionned more often alongside their spouses, bringing forth a new reality : theimperial couple and a bicephalous power. The main hypothesis consists in demonstrating that, from a historical point of view, Late Antiquity is aperiod of true evolution in a civilisation traditionally structured mentally by an obsession for manlinessand institutionally by a masculine political power. This era could be caracterise by the birth of thepolitical woman, to the point where certain authors of antiquity tend to define feminity in power as anew form of masculinity. Far from agreeing with them, this thesis will consist in asking ourselves if afeminine power can exist without being considered as a masculinization

From Sentiment to Fact: How Did the Letter 20 of Ambrose of Milan Shape Empress Justina as a Bad Feminine Figure?

    No full text
International audienceAs a controversial female character of the end of the fourth century AD, Empress Justina suffers a hostile literary tradition, as the sharp quill of Christian authors always deliver her a denigrating portrait. One might wonder how the widow of Valentinian Ist ended up portrayed as the evil Jezebel, willing to fight the rightful bishop Ambrose of Milan? Scrutinising the contemporary sources, this paper aims to demonstrate how a single letter, written by Ambrose himself, was able to shift the entire historical discourse. As an actor in these events, he recounted his feelings to his sister Marcellina in a letter later used by authors as a primary source to describe his opposition to Justina at the end of the fourth-century or between the years 384 and 386. His sentiments swayed his judgement, which soon became a new truth through the quill of late antique authors. Because of the success of such narratives, the person of Justina soon vanished behind a fictional negative character, shaping the archetype of the bad sovereign as a new Jezebel
