The limits of low-cost cinema in Spain: an analysis of the #Littlesecretfilm movement
This is an Author's Original Manuscript of an Article whose final and definitive form, the Version of Record, has been published in the Creative Industries Journal, 2020, 13:1, available online at: https://doi.org/10.1080/17510694.2019.1652024The self-styled #Littlesecretfilm phenomenon is a low-cost film production and distribution movement that was launched in Spain in 2013. Based on a reconstruction and examination of its development from its foundation (with the publication of a manifesto in the form of ten commandments) through to its products (a full survey of which are presented here), this article offers a meaningful and not entirely uncritical snapshot of a conscious proposal of a low-cost production model in contemporary Spain. In our conclusion, we tie this film movement in with international debates about the viability of a low-cost approach in the context of a national film industry that has been left badly battered by the financial crisis that began in 2008
A Mechanism for Fair Distribution of Resources without Payments
We design a mechanism for Fair and Efficient Distribution of Resources
(FEDoR) in the presence of strategic agents. We consider a multiple-instances,
Bayesian setting, where in each round the preference of an agent over the set
of resources is a private information. We assume that in each of r rounds n
agents are competing for k non-identical indivisible goods, (n > k). In each
round the strategic agents declare how much they value receiving any of the
goods in the specific round. The agent declaring the highest valuation receives
the good with the highest value, the agent with the second highest valuation
receives the second highest valued good, etc. Hence we assume a decision
function that assigns goods to agents based on their valuations. The novelty of
the mechanism is that no payment scheme is required to achieve truthfulness in
a setting with rational/strategic agents. The FEDoR mechanism takes advantage
of the repeated nature of the framework, and through a statistical test is able
to punish the misreporting agents and be fair, truthful, and socially
efficient. FEDoR is fair in the sense that, in expectation over the course of
the rounds, all agents will receive the same good the same amount of times.
FEDoR is an eligible candidate for applications that require fair distribution
of resources over time. For example, equal share of bandwidth for nodes through
the same point of access. But further on, FEDoR can be applied in less trivial
settings like sponsored search, where payment is necessary and can be given in
the form of a flat participation fee. To this extent we perform a comparison
with traditional mechanisms applied to sponsored search, presenting the
advantage of FEDoR
Quid Pro Quo: A Mechanism for Fair Collaboration in Networked Systems
Collaboration may be understood as the execution of coordinated tasks (in the
most general sense) by groups of users, who cooperate for achieving a common
goal. Collaboration is a fundamental assumption and requirement for the correct
operation of many communication systems. The main challenge when creating
collaborative systems in a decentralized manner is dealing with the fact that
users may behave in selfish ways, trying to obtain the benefits of the tasks
but without participating in their execution. In this context, Game Theory has
been instrumental to model collaborative systems and the task allocation
problem, and to design mechanisms for optimal allocation of tasks. In this
paper, we revise the classical assumptions and propose a new approach to this
problem. First, we establish a system model based on heterogenous nodes (users,
players), and propose a basic distributed mechanism so that, when a new task
appears, it is assigned to the most suitable node. The classical technique for
compensating a node that executes a task is the use of payments (which in most
networks are hard or impossible to implement). Instead, we propose a
distributed mechanism for the optimal allocation of tasks without payments. We
prove this mechanism to be robust event in the presence of independent selfish
or rationally limited players. Additionally, our model is based on very weak
assumptions, which makes the proposed mechanisms susceptible to be implemented
in networked systems (e.g., the Internet).Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, 3 algorithm

The invasive species Asparagopsis taxiformis (Bonnemaisoniales, Rhodophyta) on Andalusian coast (Southern Spain): reproductive stages, new records and invaded communities
The invasive species Asparagopsis taxiformis (Bonnemaisoniales, Rhodophyta) on Andalusian coasts (Southern Spain): reproductive stages, new records and invaded communities. The present study provides new records from Andalusian coasts of the exotic invasive seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis (Delile) Trevisan. These records demonstrate that A. taxiformis has rapidly and widely expanded its distribution range in this region, from Almería to Cádiz (Strait of Gibraltar). The latter locality may represent the western geographical limit of the species in the Mediterranean Sea. Spermatangial heads and cystocarps were observed in the collected gametophytes. Additionally, we report the first record of the tetrasporophytic stage, Falkenbergia hillebrandii (Bornet) Falkenberg from the Andalusian coast, although tetraspores were not encountered in these samples. Consequently, information on the affected communities and arguments for considering A. taxiformis as an invasive species in the Andalusian coast are provided.

Functional segmentation of CoQ and cyt c pools by respiratory complex superassembly.
Electron transfer between respiratory complexes is an essential step for the efficiency of the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Until recently, it was stablished that ubiquinone and cytochrome c formed homogenous single pools in the inner mitochondrial membrane which were not influenced by the presence of respiratory supercomplexes. However, this idea was challenged by the fact that bottlenecks in electron transfer appeared after disruption of supercomplexes into their individual complexes. The postulation of the plasticity model embraced all these observations and concluded that complexes and supercomplexes co-exist and are dedicated to a spectrum of metabolic requirements. Here, we review the involvement of superassembly in complex I stability, the role of supercomplexes in ROS production and the segmentation of the CoQ and cyt c pools, together with their involvement in signaling and disease. Taking apparently conflicting literature we have built up a comprehensive model for the segmentation of CoQ and cyt c mediated by supercomplexes, discuss the current limitations and provide a prospect of the current knowledge in the field.S
Transnational gentrification, tourism and the formation of 'foreign only' enclaves in Barcelona
In a context of global-scale inequalities and increased middle-class transnational mobility, this paper explores how the arrival of Western European and North American migrants in Barcelona drives a process of gentrification that coexists and overlaps with the development of tourism in the city. Research has focused increasingly on the role of visitors and Airbnb in driving gentrification. However, our aim is to add another layer to the complexity of neighbourhood change in tourist cities by considering the role of migrants from advanced economies as gentrifiers in these neighbourhoods. We combined socio-demographic analysis with in-depth interviews and, from this, we found that: (1) lifestyle opportunities, rather than work, explain why transnational migrants are attracted to Barcelona, resulting in privileged consumers of housing that then displace long-term residents; (2) migrants have become spatially concentrated in tourist enclaves and interact predominantly with other transnational mobile populations; (3) the result is that centrally located neighbourhoods are appropriated by foreigners - both visitors and migrants - who are better positioned in the unequal division of labour, causing locals to feel increasingly excluded from the place. We illustrate that tourism and transnational gentrification spatially coexist and, accordingly, we provide an analysis that integrates both processes to understand how neighbourhood change occurs in areas impacted by tourism. By doing so, the paper offers a fresh reading of how gentrification takes place in a Southern European destination and, furthermore, it provides new insights into the conceptualisation of tourism and lifestyle migration as drivers of gentrification
Strategies of institutional communication in television information
The Department of Institutional Communication of the European

and the Regional Fund. In recent years, some events (e.g., ones related
to the euro, enlargement, constitution, crisis) have tarnished the image of the EU in the eyes of the public. This article examines the intentions and information strategies of large EU communication campaigns at different levels: continental, national and regional. We analyze the direct relationship between the purpose and the result of these communications by examining information produced by the media. The study period is the year 2013, and the sources used are documentation sent by the EU to journalists and news broadcasts of the large Andalusian media. The discussion is about: the distance between the EU and the media; the dehumanized style of EU
releases; the lack of correlation between information received from the EU and information issued by the media; the preference for broadcasting news of the EU on economic and infrastructure issues; and that the most common visual identity of the EU is its buildings
