A survey of clinical nursing skills in intellectual disability nursing
In this study the question asked is: what clinical nursing skills are predominantly used in intellectual disability nursing? A survey of the nursing needs of people with moderate to severe intellectual disability in both residential and community units was undertaken with a questionnaire.The measure was a Likert design scale ranging across: skills used more than once a day, skills used daily, skills used weekly, skills used monthly, skills very rarely used, and skills never used.The results of the study help to identify, plan, and direct the type and level of nursing skills taught to the intellectual disability nursing students and provides an insight into the current nursing skills used in the intellectual disabilities field

Enlarging the European Union: Taxation and Corruption in the New Member States
This paper addresses the run up to the recent European Union enlargement. It considers the accession of 10 Eastern European countries in view of the pre-existing economic conditions. The paper also raises the question how the new member states can tackle their deficit problems. In particular, the paper pays attention to the question at what point the emphasis should be placed on cutting expenditure rather than raising revenues. Furthermore, the paper addresses tax capacity and tax effort in the new member states. Finally, the paper looks at possible negative relationships between corruption and tax effort on the one hand and corruption and foreign direct investments on the other
Magnetoluminescence
Pulsar Wind Nebulae, Blazars, Gamma Ray Bursts and Magnetars all contain
regions where the electromagnetic energy density greatly exceeds the plasma
energy density. These sources exhibit dramatic flaring activity where the
electromagnetic energy distributed over large volumes, appears to be converted
efficiently into high energy particles and gamma-rays. We call this general
process magnetoluminescence. Global requirements on the underlying, extreme
particle acceleration processes are described and the likely importance of
relativistic beaming in enhancing the observed radiation from a flare is
emphasized. Recent research on fluid descriptions of unstable electromagnetic
configurations are summarized and progress on the associated kinetic
simulations that are needed to account for the acceleration and radiation is
discussed. Future observational, simulation and experimental opportunities are

Search for single top quarks in the tau+jets channel using 4.8 fb of collision data
We present the first direct search for single top quark production using tau
leptons. The search is based on 4.8 fb of integrated luminosity
collected in collisions at =1.96 TeV with the D0 detector
at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with a final state
including an isolated tau lepton, missing transverse energy, two or three jets,
one or two of them tagged. We use a multivariate technique to discriminate
signal from background. The number of events observed in data in this final
state is consistent with the signal plus background expectation. We set in the
tau+jets channel an upper limit on the single top quark cross section of
\TauLimObs pb at the 95% C.L. This measurement allows a gain of 4% in expected
sensitivity for the observation of single top production when combining it with
electron+jets and muon+jets channels already published by the D0 collaboration
with 2.3 fb of data. We measure a combined cross section of
\SuperCombineXSall pb, which is the most precise measurement to date.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
A new population pharmacokinetic model for recombinant factor IX‐Fc fusion concentrate including young children with haemophilia B
Aims: Recombinant factor IX Fc fusion protein (rFIX‐Fc) is an extended half‐life factor concentrate administered to haemophilia B patients. So far, a population pharmacokinetic (PK) model has only been published for patients aged ≥12 years. The aim was to externally evaluate the predictive performance of the published rFIX‐Fc population PK model for patients of all ages and develop a model that describes rFIX‐Fc PK using real‐world data. Methods: We collected prospective and retrospective data from patients with haemophilia B treated with rFIX‐Fc and included in the OPTI‐CLOT TARGET study (NTR7523) or United Kindom (UK)‐EHL Outcomes Registry (NCT02938156). Predictive performance was assessed by comparing predicted with observed FIX activity levels. A new population PK model was constructed using nonlinear mixed‐effects modelling. Results: Real‐world data were obtained from 37 patients (median age: 16 years, range 2–71) of whom 14 were aged <12 years. Observed FIX activity levels were significantly higher than levels predicted using the published model, with a median prediction error of −48.8%. The new model showed a lower median prediction error (3.4%) and better described rFIX‐Fc PK, especially for children aged <12 years. In the new model, an increase in age was correlated with a decrease in clearance (P < .01). Conclusions: The published population PK model significantly underpredicted FIX activity levels. The new model better describes rFIX‐Fc PK, especially for children aged <12 years. This study underlines the necessity to strive for representative population PK models, thereby avoiding extrapolation outside the studied population
Quantifying neutralising antibody responses against SARS-CoV-2 in dried blood spots (DBS) and paired sera
The ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic was initially managed by non-pharmaceutical interventions such as diagnostic testing, isolation of positive cases, physical distancing and lockdowns. The advent of vaccines has provided crucial protection against SARS-CoV-2. Neutralising antibody (nAb) responses are a key correlate of protection, and therefore measuring nAb responses is essential for monitoring vaccine efficacy. Fingerstick dried blood spots (DBS) are ideal for use in large-scale sero-surveillance because they are inexpensive, offer the option of self-collection and can be transported and stored at ambient temperatures. Such advantages also make DBS appealing to use in resource-limited settings and in potential future pandemics. In this study, nAb responses in sera, venous blood and fingerstick blood stored on filter paper were measured. Samples were collected from SARS-CoV-2 acutely infected individuals, SARS-CoV-2 convalescent individuals and SARS-CoV-2 vaccinated individuals. Good agreement was observed between the nAb responses measured in eluted DBS and paired sera. Stability of nAb responses was also observed in sera stored on filter paper at room temperature for 28 days. Overall, this study provides support for the use of filter paper as a viable sample collection method to study nAb responses.</p
Search for single top quark production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in the
s-channel and t-channel using neural networks for signal-background separation.
We have analyzed 230 pb of data collected with the D0 detector at the
Fermilab Tevatron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and find no
evidence for a single top quark signal. The resulting 95% confidence level
upper limits on the single top quark production cross sections are 6.4 pb in
the s-channel and 5.0 pb in the t-channel.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
Collider aspects of flavour physics at high Q
This review presents flavour related issues in the production and decays of
heavy states at LHC, both from the experimental side and from the theoretical
side. We review top quark physics and discuss flavour aspects of several
extensions of the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs model or
models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects as well as
measurement of several properties of these heavy states. We also present public

Model-independent measurement of -channel single top quark production in collisions at TeV
We present a model-independent measurement of -channel electroweak
production of single top quarks in \ppbar collisions at . Using of integrated luminosity collected by the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, and selecting events containing an
isolated electron or muon, missing transverse energy and one or two jets
originating from the fragmentation of quarks, we measure a cross section
\sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tqb+X) = 2.90 \pm 0.59\;\rm (stat+syst)\; pb for a
top quark mass of . The probability of the background to
fluctuate and produce a signal as large as the one observed is
