Insegnare la Storia con le serie TV. Il medioevo visto con gli occhi de Il trono di spade

Is it really true that young students are not interested in History? The answer is yes, if History is explained in a classroom, either at school or at the university. But this does not happen when History is the theme of TV series, cartoons, videogames, movies and all the products of cultural industry. What happens is that today, in the new media era, institution keep knowledge areas completely separated among themselves and unresponsive to real world scenarios. For example the success of all those multimedia products that represent a superficial symbol of deeper conceptual schemas, reveals a rich imagery about historical storytelling and shows how this is the key of their extraordinary success.Ma è proprio vero che alle nuove generazioni non interessa la Storia? Sembrerebbe di sì quando la Storia è spiegata in aula, sia essa scolastica o universitaria. Ciò non sembra invece accadere quando la Storia è oggetto delle sempre più pervasive narrazioni prodotte dall’industria culturale attraverso serie TV, fumetti, videogame, film o addirittura romanzi. La verità è che, ancora oggi, in piena epoca dell’accesso e delle connessioni, i saperi formalizzati delle istituzioni formative continuano ad essere totalmente impermeabili e indifferenti a ciò che succede all’esterno; ad esempio in quel ribollente mondo degli attuali immaginari multimediali, di cui le serie TV ne sono l’emblema più visibile, che vede proprio nelle ri‐narrazioni della Storia uno degli strumenti del loro straordinario successo

Résumé: Cet article a pour but de présenter comment les apports du modèle psychophysiologique bio-existentialiste élaboré par Vezio Ruggieri et ses collaborateurs peuvent jeter une lumière nouvelle sur les processus sous-jacents le jeu de l'acteur tels que la présence scénique, le processus d'identification avec un personnage et le complexe mécanisme de la prosodie. Cet encadrement théorique, qui voit le rapport corps-esprit dans une relation circulaire, éclairera le lecteur sur les bases physiologiques de la perception et de l'imagination ainsi que sur le rôle fondamental que la structure musculaire joue dans la construction de ces phénomènes

Clinical features and outcomes of elderly hospitalised patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure or both

Background and objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure (HF) mutually increase the risk of being present in the same patient, especially if older. Whether or not this coexistence may be associated with a worse prognosis is debated. Therefore, employing data derived from the REPOSI register, we evaluated the clinical features and outcomes in a population of elderly patients admitted to internal medicine wards and having COPD, HF or COPD + HF. Methods: We measured socio-demographic and anthropometric characteristics, severity and prevalence of comorbidities, clinical and laboratory features during hospitalization, mood disorders, functional independence, drug prescriptions and discharge destination. The primary study outcome was the risk of death. Results: We considered 2,343 elderly hospitalized patients (median age 81 years), of whom 1,154 (49%) had COPD, 813 (35%) HF, and 376 (16%) COPD + HF. Patients with COPD + HF had different characteristics than those with COPD or HF, such as a higher prevalence of previous hospitalizations, comorbidities (especially chronic kidney disease), higher respiratory rate at admission and number of prescribed drugs. Patients with COPD + HF (hazard ratio HR 1.74, 95% confidence intervals CI 1.16-2.61) and patients with dementia (HR 1.75, 95% CI 1.06-2.90) had a higher risk of death at one year. The Kaplan-Meier curves showed a higher mortality risk in the group of patients with COPD + HF for all causes (p = 0.010), respiratory causes (p = 0.006), cardiovascular causes (p = 0.046) and respiratory plus cardiovascular causes (p = 0.009). Conclusion: In this real-life cohort of hospitalized elderly patients, the coexistence of COPD and HF significantly worsened prognosis at one year. This finding may help to better define the care needs of this population

Measurement of ϒ production in pp collisions at √s = 2.76 TeV

The production of ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) mesons decaying into the dimuon final state is studied with the LHCb detector using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.3 pb−1 collected in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 2.76 TeV. The differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching fractions are measured as functions of the ϒ transverse momentum and rapidity, over the ranges pT < 15 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The total cross-sections in this kinematic region, assuming unpolarised production, are measured to be σ (pp → ϒ(1S)X) × B ϒ(1S)→μ+μ− = 1.111 ± 0.043 ± 0.044 nb, σ (pp → ϒ(2S)X) × B ϒ(2S)→μ+μ− = 0.264 ± 0.023 ± 0.011 nb, σ (pp → ϒ(3S)X) × B ϒ(3S)→μ+μ− = 0.159 ± 0.020 ± 0.007 nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic

Potential adoption of GM rapeseed in France, effects on revenues of farmers and upstream companies : an ex ante evaluation

Ce document présente une investigation empirique de l'adoption potentielle de colza génétiquement modifié (OGM) tolérant à un herbicide en France. L'objectif est d'étudier ex ante l'impact potentiel de la diffusion de cette innovation en termes de taux d'adoption, de gains potentiels liés à l'adoption, et de distribution de ces gains potentiels entre agriculteurs et industries d'amont. Les auteurs utilisent des données d'enquête sur les pratiques actuelles de désherbage en France, pour calculer la distribution des coûts en herbicide dans le cas de cultures conventionnelles de colza (c'est-à-dire non OGM). Ensuite, en utilisant les résultats d'études techniques sur les essais OGM en France, ils calculent un coût prévisionnel en herbicide avec une variété OGM. Ils étudient alors les taux d'adoption, les gains et pertes potentiels des agriculteurs (adopteurs et non adopteurs) et des industries d'amont (fournisseurs des herbicides conventionnels, de l'herbicide total auquel la plante OGM est résistante, de la semence OGM), selon le prix de la semence OGM, le taux de marge sur les ventes d'herbicides conventionnels et le prix des herbicides conventionnels

This article aims at presenting how the contributions of the bio-existentialist psychophysiological model conceptualized by Vezio Ruggieri and his collaborators can bring a new light on some core elements underlying acting such as stage presence, identification process with a character and the complex mechanism of prosody. This theoretical mark, which sees the connection body-mind in a circular relation, will enlighten the reader on the physiological basis of perception and imagination as well as on the fundamental role that the muscular structure plays within the construction of these phenomena. Cet article a pour but de présenter comment les apports du modèle psychophysiologique bio-existentialiste élaboré par Vezio Ruggieri et ses collaborateurs peuvent jeter une lumière nouvelle sur les processus sous-jacents le jeu de l’acteur tels que la présence scénique, le processus d’identification avec un personnage et le complexe mécanisme de la prosodie.
