Review of Face Detection Systems Based Artificial Neural Networks Algorithms
Face detection is one of the most relevant applications of image processing
and biometric systems. Artificial neural networks (ANN) have been used in the
field of image processing and pattern recognition. There is lack of literature
surveys which give overview about the studies and researches related to the
using of ANN in face detection. Therefore, this research includes a general
review of face detection studies and systems which based on different ANN
approaches and algorithms. The strengths and limitations of these literature
studies and systems were included also.Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures, 1 table, IJMA Journa
Multi-agent evolutionary systems for the generation of complex virtual worlds
Modern films, games and virtual reality applications are dependent on
convincing computer graphics. Highly complex models are a requirement for the
successful delivery of many scenes and environments. While workflows such as
rendering, compositing and animation have been streamlined to accommodate
increasing demands, modelling complex models is still a laborious task. This
paper introduces the computational benefits of an Interactive Genetic Algorithm
(IGA) to computer graphics modelling while compensating the effects of user
fatigue, a common issue with Interactive Evolutionary Computation. An
intelligent agent is used in conjunction with an IGA that offers the potential
to reduce the effects of user fatigue by learning from the choices made by the
human designer and directing the search accordingly. This workflow accelerates
the layout and distribution of basic elements to form complex models. It
captures the designer's intent through interaction, and encourages playful
discovery
Born to learn: The inspiration, progress, and future of evolved plastic artificial neural networks
Biological plastic neural networks are systems of extraordinary computational
capabilities shaped by evolution, development, and lifetime learning. The
interplay of these elements leads to the emergence of adaptive behavior and
intelligence. Inspired by such intricate natural phenomena, Evolved Plastic
Artificial Neural Networks (EPANNs) use simulated evolution in-silico to breed
plastic neural networks with a large variety of dynamics, architectures, and
plasticity rules: these artificial systems are composed of inputs, outputs, and
plastic components that change in response to experiences in an environment.
These systems may autonomously discover novel adaptive algorithms, and lead to
hypotheses on the emergence of biological adaptation. EPANNs have seen
considerable progress over the last two decades. Current scientific and
technological advances in artificial neural networks are now setting the
conditions for radically new approaches and results. In particular, the
limitations of hand-designed networks could be overcome by more flexible and
innovative solutions. This paper brings together a variety of inspiring ideas
that define the field of EPANNs. The main methods and results are reviewed.
Finally, new opportunities and developments are presented
Evaluation of a Tree-based Pipeline Optimization Tool for Automating Data Science
As the field of data science continues to grow, there will be an
ever-increasing demand for tools that make machine learning accessible to
non-experts. In this paper, we introduce the concept of tree-based pipeline
optimization for automating one of the most tedious parts of machine
learning---pipeline design. We implement an open source Tree-based Pipeline
Optimization Tool (TPOT) in Python and demonstrate its effectiveness on a
series of simulated and real-world benchmark data sets. In particular, we show
that TPOT can design machine learning pipelines that provide a significant
improvement over a basic machine learning analysis while requiring little to no
input nor prior knowledge from the user. We also address the tendency for TPOT
to design overly complex pipelines by integrating Pareto optimization, which
produces compact pipelines without sacrificing classification accuracy. As
such, this work represents an important step toward fully automating machine
learning pipeline design.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, preprint to appear in GECCO 2016, edits not yet
