    Se ha estudiado la erodibilidad de los inceptisoles del término municipal de Badajoz mediante la aplicación de una ecuación de regresión desarrollada por el ICONA, observándose una gran variabilidad entre los distintos suelos estudiados a pesar de pertenecer todos ellos al mismo subgrupo, xerochrept. Esta variabilidad nos viene marcada, fundamentalmente, por la textura de dichos suelos, parámetro que nos indica, en definitiva el riesgo innato de los suelos a ser erosionados.The erodibility of the inceptisols of the township of Badajoz has been studied by means of the application of a regresion equation developed by the ICONA, being observed a great variability among the different soils studied in spite belonging all of them to the same subgroup, xerochrept.     The constant search of strategies that they lead towards the sustainable development makes the environmental indicators exposition more and more frequent. The target of these indicators is to give useful information for the control of the conservation of the environment. The use of formulae that allow quantifying the conservation of the vegetation makes possible the securing of an indicative value of the state of naturalness of the vegetation. Also, the use of natural types of habitat instead of phytosociology associations allows simplifying the proposed formulation, obtaining completely valid results. Finally, the effect of the change of scale in the calculation of the value of the index does not suppose changes in the validity of the obtained value. Nevertheless, we must consider that the values obtained are only comparable in works realized to equal scale

    Analyzing training dependencies and posterior fusion in discriminant classification of apnoea patients based on sustained and connected speech

    We present a novel approach using both sustained vowels and connected speech, to detect obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) cases within a homogeneous group of speakers. The proposed scheme is based on state-of-the-art GMM-based classifiers, and acknowledges specifically the way in which acoustic models are trained on standard databases, as well as the complexity of the resulting models and their adaptation to specific data. Our experimental database contains a suitable number of utterances and sustained speech from healthy (i.e control) and OSA Spanish speakers. Finally, a 25.1% relative reduction in classification error is achieved when fusing continuous and sustained speech classifiers.     An identity framework for providing access to FIWARE OAuth 2.0-based services according to the eIDAS European Regulation

    Secure electronic identification (eID) is one of the key enablers of data protection, privacy, and the prevention of online fraud. However, until now, the lack of common legal basis prevented European Member States from recognizing and accepting eIDs issued in the other Member States. The electronic identification and trust services (eIDAS) regulation provides a solution to these issues by ensuring the cross-border mutual recognition of eIDs. FIWARE is a European initiative that provides a rather simple yet powerful set of application programming interfaces (APIs) that ease the development of smart applications in multiple vertical sectors and oriented to the future internet. In this paper, we propose a model that enables the connection of FIWARE OAuth 2.0-based services with the eID authentication provided by eIDAS reference. Thanks to this model, services already connected with an OAuth 2.0 identity provider can be automatically connected with eIDAS nodes for providing eID authentication to European citizens. For validating the proposed model, we have deployed an instance of the FIWARE identity manager connected to the Spanish eIDAS node. Then, we have registered two services, a private videoconferencing system, and a public smart city deployment, and extended their functionalities for enriching the user experience leveraging the eID authentication. We have evaluated the integration of both services in the eIDAS network with real users from seven different countries. We conclude that the proposed model facilitates the integration of generic and FIWARE-based OAuth 2.0 services to the eIDAS infrastructure, making the connection transparent for developers

    Prognosis Value of Immunoregulatory Molecules in Oral Cancer Microenvironment: An Immunohistochemical Study

    Objectives: To evaluate the relationship of the immune-checkpoint PD-1/PD-L1 with the clinical evolution of OSCC; to assess survival in OSCC based on the characteristics of TME and histologic risk score; to evaluate the clinical and histopathological relationship of OSCC with immunological TME. Material and Methods: A retrospective study was carried out on 65 samples from patients with OSCC on the floor of the mouth or tongue. Clinicopathological variables and the expression of the biomarkers PD-1, PD-L1, FoxP3, CD4, CD8, CSF1R, and p16 were recorded. The relationship of the clinical and histological variables with the expression of the biomarkers and survival was studied. Results: The univariate and multivariate analysis indicated that positive PD-1 expression was an independent protective factor for survival (overall, disease-free, disease-specific survival) and that high PD-L1 also improved survival. Poorly differentiated histological grades and metastasis were associated with a worse prognosis. Conclusions: PD-1 is a protective survival factor that is maintained independently of PD-L1 expression. High values of PD-L1 expression also improve survival. Higher expression of PD-1 is observed in smaller tumors, and higher expression of PD-L1 is more likely in women. No relationship between the tumor microenvironment and histologic risk score was found to influence the survival patterns studied in the OSCC. There is no evidence of a relationship between the histopathological features and the studied markers, although the positive PD-1 and PD-L1 cases have a lower risk of a high WPOI score, and positive PD-1 expression was associated with a lower DOIThis research was funded by the Fundación para la investigación Biomédica Hospital Universitario La Paz with the project number: EC_5474.     Apparent auxetic to non-auxetic crossover driven by Co2+ redistribution in CoFe2O4 thin films

    Oxide spinels of general formula AB2O4 (A = Mg2+, Fe2+; B = Al3+, Cr3+, etc.) constitute one of the most abundant crystalline structures in mineralogy. In this structure, cations distribute among octahedral and tetrahedral sites, according to their size and the crystal-field stabilization energy. The cationic arrangement determines the mechanical, magnetic, and transport properties of the spinel and can be influenced by external parameters like temperature, pressure, or epitaxial stress in the case of thin films. Here, we report a progressive change in the sign of the Poisson ratio, ν, in thin films of CoFe2O4, defining a smooth crossover from auxetic (ν 0) behavior in response to epitaxial stress and temperature. Microstructural and magnetization studies, as well as ab initio calculations, demonstrate that such unusual elastic response is actually due to a progressive redistribution of Co2+ among the octahedral and tetrahedral sites of the spinel structure.     Teaching Urology to Undergraduates: A Prospective Survey of What General Practitioners Need to Know

    Background: Higher education training in Medicine has considerably evolved in recent years. One of its main goals has been to ensure the training of students as future adequately qualified general practitioners (GPs). Tools need to be developed to evaluate and improve the teaching of Urology at the undergraduate level. Our objective is to identify the knowledge and skills needed in Urology for the real clinical practice of GPs. Methods: An anonymous self-administered survey was carried out among GPs of Primary Care and Emergencies which sought to evaluate urological knowledge and necessary urological skills. The results of the survey were exported and descriptive statistics were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 19.0. Results and limitations: A total of 127 answers were obtained, in which ‘Urological infections’, ‘Renal colic’, ‘PSA levels and screening for prostate cancer’, ‘Benign prostatic hyperplasia’, ‘Hematuria’, ‘Scrotal pain’, ‘Prostate cancer diagnosis’, ‘Bladder cancer diagnosis’, ‘Urinary incontinence’, and ‘Erectile dysfunction’ were rated as Very high or High formative requirements (>75%). Regarding urological skills, ‘Abdominal examination’, ‘Interpretation of urinalysis’, ‘Digital rectal examination’, ‘Genital examination’, and ‘Transurethral catheterization’ were assessed as needing Very high or High training in more than 80% of the surveys. The relevance of urological pathology in clinical practice was viewed as Very high or High in more than 80% of the responses. Conclusions: This study has shown helpful results to establish a differentiated prioritization of urological knowledge and skills in Primary Care and Emergencies. Efforts should be aimed at optimizing the teaching in Urology within the Degree of Medicine which consistently ensures patients’ proper care by future GPs

    El proyecto “AMIDA. Aventura Multimedia en la Región de Murcia” es una plataforma de enseñanza-aprendizaje que permite al alumno que acce de a dicha plataforma adaptar los materiales, tanto teoría como ejercicios, al perfil particular de éste. El aprendizaje se realiza utilizando como entorno imágenes e información sobre la Región de Murcia de forma que el alumno conozca su región mientras aprende. También se está diseñando un juego consistente en un viaje virtual a través de la Región de Murcia, donde el alumno debe realizar unas pruebas, basadas en la información que tenemos de las distintas asignaturas para encontrar un tesoro. De este modo el alum no podrá conocer la Región de Murcia mientras juega y aprende. Como menciona Lombardo (Lombardo, 1983), hace más de dos mil años, el rey egipcio Ptolomeo I preguntó al sabio griego Euclides si había una forma más corta y menos trabajosa para entender el libro “Los Elementos”, le costaba mucho trabajo seguir los largos y minuciosos razonamientos de Euclides, a lo que éste le contesto que no, que “en matemáticas no hay ca minos reales”. Podemos mostrar las matemáticas de muchas formas, pero no podemos eliminar el esfuerzo y la dedicación que requiere el entendimiento de las mismas. Este proyecto pretende ser un intento más de que dicho trabajo pueda ser más ameno, de trabajar en un entorno más agradable y sobre todo de que el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje sea más efectivo. Hoy asistimos a una reforma constante en la enseñanza en la que se solicita la inclusión de las nuevas tecnologías en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje y se presentan tales tecnologías como la panacea para conse guir mejorar el nivel académico de los alumnos. El proceso de adquisición de nuevos conocimientos conlleva esfuerzo y dedicación, podemos hacer que se trabaje en un entorno más o menos agradable, podemos buscar va rias formas de alcanzar los objetivos que nos planteemos, pero no podemos suprimir el esfuerzo que debe realizar el alumno para ello. Con este proyec to pretendemos mostrar un entorno que haga dicho proceso más agradable y más entretenido para el alumno mientras aprende las distintas asignatu ras. El proyecto que aquí presentamos pretende ser el principio de un proyec to que permita no sólo poner al alcance del alumno información en formato web y al profesor ver el recorrido que ha seguido el alumno, sino conseguir algunos aspectos del proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje que hasta ahora no habíamos podido abarcar: dar a cada alumno, en función de su perfil particular, una ruta distinta por la teoría para estudiar y una evaluación personalizada y particularizada, asistido en todo momento por el profesor (tanto en el estudio de la teoría como en los ejercicios), el poder repasar en cada ejercicio la teoría relacionada con dicho ejercicio

    Combined MEK and PI3K/p110β Inhibition as a Novel Targeted Therapy for Malignant Mesothelioma Displaying Sarcomatoid Features

    Among malignant mesotheliomas (MM), the sarcomatoid subtype is associated with higher chemoresistance and worst survival. Due to its low incidence, there has been little progress in the knowledge of the molecular mechanisms associated with sarcomatoid MM, which might help to define novel therapeutic targets. In this work, we show that loss of PTEN expression is frequent in human sarcomatoid MM and PTEN expression levels are lower in sarcomatoid MM than in the biphasic and epithelioid subtypes. Combined Pten and Trp53 deletion in mouse mesothelium led to nonepithelioid MM development. In Pten;Trp53-null mice developing MM, the Gαi2-coupled receptor subunit activated MEK/ERK and PI3K, resulting in aggressive, immune-suppressed tumors. Combined inhibition of MEK and p110β/PI3K reduced mouse tumor cell growth in vitro. Therapeutic inhibition of MEK and p110β/PI3K using selumetinib (AZD6244, ARRY-142886) and AZD8186, two drugs that are currently in clinical trials, increased the survival of Pten;Trp53-null mice without major toxicity. This drug combination effectively reduced the proliferation of primary cultures of human pleural (Pl) MM, implicating nonepithelioid histology and high vimentin, AKT1/2, and Gαi2 expression levels as predictive markers of response to combined MEK and p110β/PI3K inhibition. Our findings provide a rationale for the use of selumetinib and AZD8186 in patients with MM with sarcomatoid features. This constitutes a novel targeted therapy for a poor prognosis and frequently chemoresistant group of patients with MM, for whom therapeutic options are currently lacking.[Significance] Mesothelioma is highly aggressive; its sarcomatoid variants have worse prognosis.     Adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells for the treatment of patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation. A proof of concept study

    Background: Identification of effective treatments in severe cases of COVID-19 requiring mechanical ventilation represents an unmet medical need. Our aim was to determine whether the administration of adipose-tissue derived mesenchymal stromal cells (AT-MSC) is safe and potentially useful in these patients. Methods: Thirteen COVID-19 adult patients under invasive mechanical ventilation who had received previous antiviral and/or anti-inflammatory treatments (including steroids, lopinavir/ritonavir, hydroxychloroquine and/or tocilizumab, among others) were treated with allogeneic AT-MSC. Ten patients received two doses, with the second dose administered a median of 3 days (interquartile range-IQR- 1 day) after the first one. Two patients received a single dose and another patient received 3 doses. Median number of cells per dose was 0.98 × 106 (IQR 0.50 × 106) AT-MSC/kg of recipient's body weight. Potential adverse effects related to cell infusion and clinical outcome were assessed. Additional parameters analyzed included changes in imaging, analytical and inflammatory parameters. Findings: First dose of AT-MSC was administered at a median of 7 days (IQR 12 days) after mechanical ventilation. No adverse events were related to cell therapy. With a median follow-up of 16 days (IQR 9 days) after the first dose, clinical improvement was observed in nine patients (70%). Seven patients were extubated and discharged from ICU while four patients remained intubated (two with an improvement in their ventilatory and radiological parameters and two in stable condition). Two patients died (one due to massive gastrointestinal bleeding unrelated to MSC therapy). Treatment with AT-MSC was followed by a decrease in inflammatory parameters (reduction in C-reactive protein, IL-6, ferritin, LDH and d-dimer) as well as an increase in lymphocytes, particularly in those patients with clinical improvement. Interpretation: Treatment with intravenous administration of AT-MSC in 13 severe COVID-19 pneumonia under mechanical ventilation in a small case series did not induce significant adverse events and was followed by clinical and biological improvement in most subjects.
