Study of decays to the final state and evidence for the decay
A study of decays is performed for the first time
using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0
collected by the LHCb experiment in collisions at centre-of-mass energies
of and TeV. Evidence for the decay
is reported with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations, resulting in the
measurement of

be .

New Insights in the Contribution of Voltage-Gated Nav Channels to Rat Aorta Contraction
BACKGROUND: Despite increasing evidence for the presence of voltage-gated Na(+) channels (Na(v)) isoforms and measurements of Na(v) channel currents with the patch-clamp technique in arterial myocytes, no information is available to date as to whether or not Na(v) channels play a functional role in arteries. The aim of the present work was to look for a physiological role of Na(v) channels in the control of rat aortic contraction. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Na(v) channels were detected in the aortic media by Western blot analysis and double immunofluorescence labeling for Na(v) channels and smooth muscle alpha-actin using specific antibodies. In parallel, using real time RT-PCR, we identified three Na(v) transcripts: Na(v)1.2, Na(v)1.3, and Na(v)1.5. Only the Na(v)1.2 isoform was found in the intact media and in freshly isolated myocytes excluding contamination by other cell types. Using the specific Na(v) channel agonist veratridine and antagonist tetrodotoxin (TTX), we unmasked a contribution of these channels in the response to the depolarizing agent KCl on rat aortic isometric tension recorded from endothelium-denuded aortic rings. Experimental conditions excluded a contribution of Na(v) channels from the perivascular sympathetic nerve terminals. Addition of low concentrations of KCl (2-10 mM), which induced moderate membrane depolarization (e.g., from -55.9+/-1.4 mV to -45.9+/-1.2 mV at 10 mmol/L as measured with microelectrodes), triggered a contraction potentiated by veratridine (100 microM) and blocked by TTX (1 microM). KB-R7943, an inhibitor of the reverse mode of the Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchanger, mimicked the effect of TTX and had no additive effect in presence of TTX. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: These results define a new role for Na(v) channels in arterial physiology, and suggest that the TTX-sensitive Na(v)1.2 isoform, together with the Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchanger, contributes to the contractile response of aortic myocytes at physiological range of membrane depolarization
Innate Immune Responses of Drosophila melanogaster Are Altered by Spaceflight
Alterations and impairment of immune responses in humans present a health risk for space exploration missions. The molecular mechanisms underpinning innate immune defense can be confounded by the complexity of the acquired immune system of humans. Drosophila (fruit fly) innate immunity is simpler, and shares many similarities with human innate immunity at the level of molecular and genetic pathways. The goals of this study were to elucidate fundamental immune processes in Drosophila affected by spaceflight and to measure host-pathogen responses post-flight. Five containers, each containing ten female and five male fruit flies, were housed and bred on the space shuttle (average orbit altitude of 330.35 km) for 12 days and 18.5 hours. A new generation of flies was reared in microgravity. In larvae, the immune system was examined by analyzing plasmatocyte number and activity in culture. In adults, the induced immune responses were analyzed by bacterial clearance and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) of selected genes following infection with E. coli. The RNA levels of relevant immune pathway genes were determined in both larvae and adults by microarray analysis. The ability of larval plasmatocytes to phagocytose E. coli in culture was attenuated following spaceflight, and in parallel, the expression of genes involved in cell maturation was downregulated. In addition, the level of constitutive expression of pattern recognition receptors and opsonins that specifically recognize bacteria, and of lysozymes, antimicrobial peptide (AMP) pathway and immune stress genes, hallmarks of humoral immunity, were also reduced in larvae. In adults, the efficiency of bacterial clearance measured in vivo following a systemic infection with E. coli post-flight, remained robust. We show that spaceflight altered both cellular and humoral immune responses in Drosophila and that the disruption occurs at multiple interacting pathways
Observation of Two New Excited Îb0 States Decaying to Îb0 K-Ï+
Two narrow resonant states are observed in the Îb0K-Ï+ mass spectrum using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb-1. The minimal quark content of the Îb0K-Ï+ system indicates that these are excited Îb0 baryons. The masses of the Îb(6327)0 and Îb(6333)0 states are m[Îb(6327)0]=6327.28-0.21+0.23±0.12±0.24 and m[Îb(6333)0]=6332.69-0.18+0.17±0.03±0.22 MeV, respectively, with a mass splitting of Îm=5.41-0.27+0.26±0.12 MeV, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the Îb0 mass measurement. The measured natural widths of these states are consistent with zero, with upper limits of Î[Îb(6327)0]<2.20(2.56) and Î[Îb(6333)0]<1.60(1.92) MeV at a 90% (95%) credibility level. The significance of the two-peak hypothesis is larger than nine (five) Gaussian standard deviations compared to the no-peak (one-peak) hypothesis. The masses, widths, and resonant structure of the new states are in good agreement with the expectations for a doublet of 1D Îb0 resonances
First observation of a doubly charged tetraquark and its neutral partner
A combined amplitude analysis is performed for the decays and , which are
related by isospin symmetry. The analysis is based on data collected by the
LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8
and 13. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated
luminosity of 9. Two new resonant states with masses of
and widths of
are observed, which decay to and
respectively. The former state indicates the first observation of
a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state with minimal quark content
, and the latter state is a neutral tetraquark composed of
quarks. Both states are found to have spin-parity ,
and their resonant parameters are consistent with each other, which suggests

Observation of a resonant structure near the threshold in the decay
An amplitude analysis of the decay is carried out to
study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using
proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass
energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as
, is observed in the invariant-mass spectrum with
significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width and the
quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be MeV,
MeV and , respectively, where the first
uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the
new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state
composed of quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is
found around 4140 MeV in the invariant mass, which might be

Observation of B+c â D0K+ decays
Using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fbâ1, recorded by
the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, the B+
c â D0K+ decay is observed with a
statistical significance of 5.1 standard deviations. By normalizing to B+ â DÂŻ 0Ï+ decays, a measurement of

Measurement of the B_{s}^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} Branching Fraction and Effective Lifetime and Search for B^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} Decays.
A search for the rare decays B_{s}^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} and B^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} is performed at the LHCb experiment using data collected in pp collisions corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 4.4ââfb^{-1}. An excess of B_{s}^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} decays is observed with a significance of 7.8 standard deviations, representing the first observation of this decay in a single experiment. The branching fraction is measured to be B(B_{s}^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-})=(3.0±0.6_{-0.2}^{+0.3})Ă10^{-9}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The first measurement of the B_{s}^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} effective lifetime, Ï(B_{s}^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-})=2.04±0.44±0.05ââps, is reported. No significant excess of B^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-} decays is found, and a 95% confidence level upper limit, B(B^{0}âÎŒ^{+}ÎŒ^{-})<3.4Ă10^{-10}, is determined. All results are in agreement with the standard model expectations
Measurement of the CKM angle using with decays
A model-dependent amplitude analysis of the decay is performed using proton-proton collision data
corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb, recorded at
and by the LHCb experiment. The CP violation observables
and , sensitive to the CKM angle , are measured to

are the most precise measurements of these observables. They correspond to

the magnitude of the ratio of the suppressed and favoured decay amplitudes, in a mass region of around the
mass and for an absolute value of the cosine of the decay
