Método: Participaram neste estudo 12 professores do 1º ciclo do ensino básico (6 do
A escala GRBAS apresentou valores
ABSTRACT: Objective / theme: The vocal fatigue has been defined as a physiological mechanism
and as a unique human function and also as a symptom or cause of disturbances in the
vocal system. Voice endurance tests are often used to acoustic and audio-perceptual
evaluation, of the voice quality of the individuals, useful in detecting possible signs of
vocal fatigue. The aim of this work is to study if any of the acoustic parameters usually
considered in the evaluation of voice, change after a period of vocal use, linking them
with the audio-perceptual evaluation.
Method: A total of 12 school teachers (6 female and 6 males) with ages between 29
and 49 years participated in our study. It was made an audio-perceptual evaluation of
the voice with the GRBAS. And a acoustical evaluation (Fundamental Frequency,
Jitter, Shimmer and HNR), through the tasks of sustained vowels, reading, phrases and
spontaneous conversation.
Results: It was found that the moment did not prove significant for the 4 acoustic
parameters studied, ie there was no significant change in mean F0, Jitter, Shimmer and
HNR, after a day of classes. The GRBAS values were equal for the two evaluation
times. There was a significant relationship between the G and the R of the GRBAS
scale, and the parameters Fo and HNR for both genders and between the G and the R
and Shimmer in the female gender.
Discussion: The results obtained are in agreement with some results of the literature,
on the audio-perceptual and acoustic and the relationship between them. In future
studies it is advisable to increased the number of the sample, control the type of tasks
used and periods of more extensive voice use
Characterisation of microbial attack on archaeological bone
As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
