The New Strategic Theory and its developments in the communication area

Cuando en el año 2008, con ocasión del Congreso Internacional Brand Trends, organizado por la Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera en Valencia, me comentó el profesor Rafael Alberto Pérez cómo había visto la aplicación de la Nueva Teoría Estratégica en las diferentes conferencias de los profesionales de comunicación comercial y corporativa allí reunidos, tomé conciencia de que efectivamente la NTE se estaba ya aplicando en el campo de la Publicidad y el Marketing, validando así el modelo o paradigma. Y por otro lado me reafirmé en mi consideración de que el proceso tecnológico de digitalización de la comunicación ha sido el magma sobre el cual la NTE ha podido avanzar en su postulado relacional. A partir de entonces seguí su consejo sobre la necesidad de realizar un cambio en “la mirada” de cómo contemplar el mundo y hacerlo rompiendo con la mirada heredada de un mundo fragmentado, con causalidad lineal y estático y pasar a una visión compleja, fluida y caótica (Pérez y Massoini, 2009: 137-142)

Efficient spatial-domain implementation of a multiscale image representation based on Gabor functions

However, the classic Gabor expansion is computationally expensive due to the lack of orthogonality of Gabor functions. Some alternative schemes, based on the application of a bank of Gabor filters, have important advantages such as computational efficiency and robustness, at the cost of redundancy and lack of completeness. In a previous work we proposed a quasicomplete Gabor transform, suitable for fast implementations in either space or frequency domains. Reconstruction was achieved by simply adding together the even Gabor channels. In this work, we develop an optimized spatial-domain implementation, using one-dimensional, 11-tap filter masks, that is faster and more flexible than Fourier implementations. The reconstruction method is improved by applying fixed and independent weights to the Gabor channels before adding them. Finally, we analyze and implement, in the spatial domain, two ways to incorporate a high-pass residual, which permits a visually complete representation of the image.Peer reviewe

Oral supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids and inflammation markers in patients with chronic kidney disease in hemodialysis

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an increasingly common public health problem that increases the risk of death because of cardiovascular complications by 2–3 times compared with the general population. This research concerns a prospective, randomized, double-blind study in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. The participants were assigned to 1 of 2 groups: the study group (group A; 46 patients) received 4 capsules (2.4 g) of omega-3 fatty acids daily during the 12-week intervention, while patients in the control group (group B; 47 patients) received 4 capsules of paraffin oil. The patients’ general characteristics, nutritional indicators, renal disease markers and inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-)) were evaluated. No differences were found between the general characteristics of the patients (P < 0.05), and no differences were shown in the nutritional indicators and markers of kidney disease (P < 0.05). Patients in group A showed significant decreases in levels of C-reactive protein, IL-6, TNF-, and the IL-10/IL-6 ratio after 12 weeks of supplementation (P < 0.05). Patients in group B did not show any significant changes in concentrations of inflammatory markers during the intervention (P < 0.05). In conclusion, oral supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids produces a significant decrease in the concentrations of inflammation markers in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis.La maladie du rein chronique (« CKD ») est un problème de santé publique de plus en plus courant qui augmente de 2 à 3 fois, chez les patients aux prises avec cette maladie, le risque de décès dû aux complications cardiovasculaires comparativement à la population générale. Cette recherche est une étude prospective, randomisée, en double insu chez des patients atteints de CKD subissant une hémodialyse. Les participants sont répartis dans l’un des deux groupes: le groupe d’étude (groupe A, 46 patients) reçoit quatre capsules (2,4 g) d’acides gras oméga-3 par jour au cours de l’intervention de 12 semaines et les patients du groupe témoin (groupe B, 47 patients) reçoivent quatre capsules d’huile de paraffine. Les caractéristiques générales des patients, les indicateurs nutritionnels, les marqueurs des maladies rénales et les marqueurs inflammatoires (protéine C-réactive, interleukine (« IL »-6, IL-10 et facteur de nécrose tumorale alpha (« TNF- ») sont évalués. Aucune différence n’est observée entre les caractéristiques générales des patients (P < 0,05) et aucune différence n’apparait dans les indicateurs nutritionnels et les marqueurs de la maladie rénale (P < 0,05). Après 12 semaines de supplémentation, les patients du groupe A présentent une diminution significative des niveaux de protéine C-réactive, d’IL-6, de TNF- et du ratio IL-10/IL-6 (P < 0,05). Les patients du groupe B ne présentent aucun changement significatif des concentrations de marqueurs inflammatoires pendant l’intervention (P < 0,05). En conclusion, une supplémentation orale en acides gras oméga-3 produit une diminution significative des concentrations de marqueurs de l’inflammation chez les patients atteints d’une maladie du rein chronique et sous hémodialyse.University of Granad

Estudio y Propuesta de intervención de una pintura mural modernista localizada en la casa del poeta Vicent d Anna en Puçol (Valencia).

[ES] Este trabajo desarrolla el estudio de una pintura mural de estilo modernista de finales del siglo XIX, ubicada en una habitación de la primera planta de la casa del poeta Vicent d'Anna en Puçol (Valencia), acompañado de un proceso de documentación sobre el origen de la casa y su propietario. Se describirán las características, propiedades y estado de conservación de dicha pintura mural, basándose en las pruebas y análisis efectuados. A su vez, se plantea una propuesta de intervención y de conservación preventiva en función de los datos recopilados, sobre temperatura y humedad, así como el estudio de la obra. De esta manera se garantiza la durabilidad en el tiempo de la misma.[EN] This research develops the study of a modernist style wall painting from the late nineteenth century, located in a room on the first floor of the house of the poet Vicent D'Anna in Puçol (Valencia), accompanied by a process of documentation on the origin of the house and its owner. The characteristics, properties and state of conservation of said mural painting will be described, based on the tests and analyzes carried out. In addition, a preventive intervention and conservation proposal is proposed based on the data collected, on temperature and humidity, as well as the study of the work.
