    Gender Differences in Clinical Outcomes of Patients with Coronary Artery Disease after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

    With the increasing incidence of coronary artery disease, the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has become one of the most effective treatments for coronary artery disease. After more than 40 years of clinical application, development and research, and continuous improvement, it has been widely used around the world. In recent years, due to the continuous innovation of drug-eluting stents, equipment, drugs, and interventional technology, the indications for treatment have been continuously broadened, many heart centers can deal with complete revascularization for high-risk indicated patient session, and the efficacy has been further improved. However, studies have shown that there are gender differences in the clinical prognosis of patients with coronary artery disease after percutaneous coronary intervention, which are affected by many related risk factors of gender differences, but there is lack of systematic and comprehensive review of relevant factors. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the possible causes of gender differences in the clinical outcomes of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention and to put forward recommendations for primary prevention and secondary prevention

    Causal link between gut microbiota and four types of pancreatitis: a genetic association and bidirectional Mendelian randomization study

    BackgroundA number of recent observational studies have indicated a correlation between the constitution of gut microbiota and the incidence of pancreatitis. Notwithstanding, observational studies are unreliable for inferring causality because of their susceptibility to confounding, bias, and reverse causality, the causal relationship between specific gut microbiota and pancreatitis is still unclear. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between gut microbiota and four types of pancreatitis.MethodsAn investigative undertaking encompassing a genome-wide association study (GWAS) comprising 18,340 participants was undertaken with the aim of discerning genetic instrumental variables that exhibit associations with gut microbiota, The aggregated statistical data pertaining to acute pancreatitis (AP), alcohol-induced AP (AAP), chronic pancreatitis (CP), and alcohol-induced CP (ACP) were acquired from the FinnGen Consortium. The two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) approach was utilized. Utilizing the Inverse-Variance Weighted (IVW) technique as the cornerstone of our primary analysis. The Bonferroni analysis was used to correct for multiple testing, In addition, a number of sensitivity analysis methodologies, comprising the MR-Egger intercept test, the Cochran’s Q test, MR polymorphism residual and outlier (MR-PRESSO) test, and the leave-one-out test, were performed to evaluate the robustness of our findings.ResultsA total of 28 intestinal microflora were ascertained to exhibit significant associations with diverse outcomes of pancreatitis. Among them, Class Melainabacteria (OR = 1.801, 95% CI: 1.288–2.519, p = 0.008) has a strong causality with ACP after the Bonferroni-corrected test, in order to assess potential reverse causation effects, we used four types of pancreatitis as the exposure variable and scrutinized its impact on gut microbiota as the outcome variable, this analysis revealed associations between pancreatitis and 30 distinct types of gut microflora. The implementation of Cochran’s Q test revealed a lack of substantial heterogeneity among the various single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP).ConclusionOur first systematic Mendelian randomization analysis provides evidence that multiple gut microbiota taxa may be causally associated with four types of pancreatitis disease. This discovery may contribute significant biomarkers conducive to the preliminary, non-invasive identification of Pancreatitis. Additionally, it could present viable targets for potential therapeutic interventions in the disease’s treatment

    BACKGROUND: Coffee intake has been shown to modulate both the effect of ethanol on serum GGT activities in some alcohol consumers and the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis in some patients with chronic diseases. This study aimed to analyze the impact of coffee intake and alcohol consumption on advanced liver fibrosis (ALF) in HIV-HCV co-infected patients. METHODS: ANRS CO13-HEPAVIH is a French, nationwide, multicenter cohort of HIV-HCV-co-infected patients. Sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical data including alcohol and coffee consumption were prospectively collected using annual self-administered questionnaires during five years of follow-up. Mixed logistic regression models were performed, relating coffee intake and alcohol consumption to ALF. RESULTS: 1019 patients were included. At the last available visit, 5.8% reported high-risk alcohol consumption, 27.4% reported high coffee intake and 14.5% had ALF. Compared with patients with low coffee intake and high-risk alcohol consumption, patients with low coffee intake and low-risk alcohol consumption had a lower risk of ALF (aOR (95% CI) 0.24 (0.12(-)0.50)). In addition, patients with high coffee intake had a lower risk of ALF than the reference group (0.14 (0.03(-)0.64) in high-risk alcohol drinkers and 0.11 (0.05(-)0.25) in low-risk alcohol drinkers). CONCLUSIONS: High coffee intake was associated with a low risk of liver fibrosis even in HIV-HCV co-infected patients with high-risk alcohol consumption

    The global burden of adolescent and young adult cancer in 2019: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

    Background: In estimating the global burden of cancer, adolescents and young adults with cancer are often overlooked, despite being a distinct subgroup with unique epidemiology, clinical care needs, and societal impact. Comprehensive estimates of the global cancer burden in adolescents and young adults (aged 15–39 years) are lacking. To address this gap, we analysed results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019, with a focus on the outcome of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), to inform global cancer control measures in adolescents and young adults. Methods: Using the GBD 2019 methodology, international mortality data were collected from vital registration systems, verbal autopsies, and population-based cancer registry inputs modelled with mortality-to-incidence ratios (MIRs). Incidence was computed with mortality estimates and corresponding MIRs. Prevalence estimates were calculated using modelled survival and multiplied by disability weights to obtain years lived with disability (YLDs). Years of life lost (YLLs) were calculated as age-specific cancer deaths multiplied by the standard life expectancy at the age of death. The main outcome was DALYs (the sum of YLLs and YLDs). Estimates were presented globally and by Socio-demographic Index (SDI) quintiles (countries ranked and divided into five equal SDI groups), and all estimates were presented with corresponding 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs). For this analysis, we used the age range of 15–39 years to define adolescents and young adults. Findings: There were 1·19 million (95% UI 1·11–1·28) incident cancer cases and 396 000 (370 000–425 000) deaths due to cancer among people aged 15–39 years worldwide in 2019. The highest age-standardised incidence rates occurred in high SDI (59·6 [54·5–65·7] per 100 000 person-years) and high-middle SDI countries (53·2 [48·8–57·9] per 100 000 person-years), while the highest age-standardised mortality rates were in low-middle SDI (14·2 [12·9–15·6] per 100 000 person-years) and middle SDI (13·6 [12·6–14·8] per 100 000 person-years) countries. In 2019, adolescent and young adult cancers contributed 23·5 million (21·9–25·2) DALYs to the global burden of disease, of which 2·7% (1·9–3·6) came from YLDs and 97·3% (96·4–98·1) from YLLs. Cancer was the fourth leading cause of death and tenth leading cause of DALYs in adolescents and young adults globally. Interpretation: Adolescent and young adult cancers contributed substantially to the overall adolescent and young adult disease burden globally in 2019. These results provide new insights into the distribution and magnitude of the adolescent and young adult cancer burden around the world. With notable differences observed across SDI settings, these estimates can inform global and country-level cancer control efforts.     Study of the Precipitation Hardening Behaviour and Intergranular Corrosion of Al-Mg-Si Alloys with Differing Si Contents

    The effects of Si addition on the precipitation hardening behaviour and evolution of intergranular corrosion (IGC) of Al-Mg-Si alloys were investigated using hardness tests, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), potentiodynamic polarization measurements, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). With an increase of the Si content, the peak hardness of the Al-Mg-Si alloys considerably increased by enhancing the density of the β″ (Mg5Si6) phase inside the grains. The microstructures affecting the IGC performance consisted of MgSi particles, Si particles, Al-Fe-Mn-Si intermetallics, and the precipitate-free zone (PFZ). The IGC susceptibility of the Al-Mg-Si alloys was mainly attributed to the high electrochemical potential difference between the MgSi particles and solute-depleted zones. Excess Si improved the IGC susceptibility of the alloys, mainly due to an increase of the grain boundary MgSi precipitates. Furthermore, the evolution of the IGC process was discussed in detail

    In the double cold rolling process, the emulsion entering the roll gap during the double cold rolling process has the characteristics of high concentration and small flow rate so that the roll surface oil film thickness will affect roll gap oil film thickness, which in turn affects the rolling friction coefficient. This paper analyzes the formation mechanism and evolution process of the roll surface oil film thickness by considering the equipment and process characteristics of the emulsion direct injection application lubrication system. Then, based on the principle of fluid dynamics, the roll surface oil film thickness model in the double cold rolling process is established, and the prediction of the roll surface oil film thickness during the double cold rolling process is realized. Subsequently, the effects of five factors, such as rolling speed, work roll roughness, maximum contact stress between rolls, emulsion initial dynamic viscosity, and emulsion pressure viscosity coefficient, on the roll surface oil film thickness are quantitatively analyzed, and the corresponding influence laws are given. Finally, the relevant model and software that are applied to the 1220 double cold reduction mill have achieved good results

    Livestock can transport seeds long distances by endozoochory due to their large home range and capacity to move among different habitats. However, differences in digestive system and body size between different livestock species may result in variations in the dispersal of domestic livestock. To test such effects, we explore the effects of endozoochorous seed dispersal of Malus sieversii by three livestock: cattle, horse, and sheep in the Ili Botany Garden, northwest of China. We collected seeds of M. sieversii and fed them to cattle, horses and sheep. After feeding, we collected all the seeds from their feces every 24 h for 6 days and determined the seed recovery percent, mean retention time, and germination percent of seeds after the effects of the digestive tracts of those three livestock species. Seed recovery percent in three livestock species feces were cattle (CS) (54.05%) > horse (HS) (4.83%) > sheep (SS) (0.45%). The mean retention time of seeds in the digestive tract of cattle, horses and sheep were 53 h, 57 h, and 45 h. The seed weight and seed coat thickness decreased significantly after the treatment of the digestive tract. After 80 days cold stratification of seeds, the germination percent of CK, CS, and HS were 61%, 69%, and 18%, respectively. The results indicated cattle is an effective seed disperser of M. sieversii, with a recovery and germination percent in endozoochorous seed dispersal by cattle than that of horse and sheep. Our findings may also provide a theoretical basis about regarding seed-centric grazing management decisions and keeping horse and sheep out of pastures during the fruit of M. sieversii shedding period

    BackgroundWhite matter hyperintensities (WMH) are a key imaging feature of cerebral small-vessel disease (CSVD). However, there is a lack of standardized methods for determining WMH volume, and the value of total white matter (WM) volume in the assessment of cognitive impairment in patients with CSVD remains unknown.ObjectiveWe aimed to explore the correlations of WMH volume and WM volume with cognitive dysfunction and its components in patients with CSVD. We also aimed to compare the value of the Fazekas score, WMH volume, and ratio of WMH volume to total WM volume in the assessment of cognitive dysfunction.MethodsThe study included 99 patients with CSVD. Patients were categorized into following groups based on MoCA scores: patients with mild cognitive impairment and those without. Brain magnetic resonance images were processed to investigate differences in WMH and WM volumes between the groups. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine whether these two factors were independent risk factors for cognitive dysfunction. Correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships of WMH and WM volume with different types of cognitive impairment. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to compare the effectiveness of the WMH score, WMH volume, and WMH to WM ratio for evaluating cognitive dysfunction.ResultsThere were significant differences in age, education level, WMH volume, and WM volume between the groups (P &lt; 0.05). After adjusting for age and education, the multivariate logistic analysis indicated that both WMH volume and WM volume were independent risk factors for cognitive dysfunction. Correlation analysis indicated that WMH volume was mainly related to cognition involving the visual space and delayed recall. WM volume was not strongly associated with different types of cognitive dysfunction. The WMH to WM ratio was the strongest predictor, with an area under the curve value of 0.800 and a 95% confidence interval of 0.710–0.891.ConclusionIncreases in WMH volume may aggravate cognitive dysfunction in patients with CSVD, and a higher WM volume may reduce the effect of WMH volume on cognitive function to a certain extent. The ratio of WMH to total WM volume may reduce the impact of brain atrophy, allowing for more accurate evaluation of cognitive dysfunction in older adults with CSVD
