Nucleon electromagnetic form factors from lattice QCD using a nearly physical pion mass
We present lattice QCD calculations of nucleon electromagnetic form factors
using pion masses = 149, 202, and 254 MeV and an action with
clover-improved Wilson quarks coupled to smeared gauge fields, as used by the
Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal collaboration. Particular attention is given to
removal of the effects of excited state contamination by calculation at three
source-sink separations and use of the summation and generalized
pencil-of-function methods. The combination of calculation at the nearly
physical mass = 149 MeV in a large spatial volume ( = 4.2)
and removal of excited state effects yields agreement with experiment for the
electric and magnetic form factors and up to = 0.5

Performance, digestive disorders and the intestinal microbiota in weaning rabbits are affected by a herbal feed additive
[EN] A herbal feed additive (Digestarom(R), containing a mixture of onion, garlic, caraway, fennel, gentian, melissa, peppermint, anise, oak bark and clove) was fed to rabbit does and kits to study its impact on performance, post-weaning digestive disorders and intestinal microbiota. Two groups of 9 doe rabbits and their offspring, after weaning, were fed a standard diet without or with the addition of 300 mg Digestarom(R)/kg diet. Forty kits from each group were weaned at 28 d of age weighing 0.614±0.005 kg. They were caged in groups of four rabbits (10 cages/treatment) and fed the same diet as their mothers for 13 d. Weight gain and feed intake of the kits fed Digestarom(R) was 18 and 14% higher, respectively, than those fed control diet (P<0.001), with no differences in the feed conversion. Rabbits were killed 13 d after weaning and 10 healthy animals from the Digestarom(R) group and 10 healthy and 10 diseased animals from the control group were dissected. Healthy rabbits fed control diet and those fed Digestarom(R) showed closer intestinal digesta dry matter, pH and volatile fatty acid (VFA) profi les, compared to diseased animals. VFA concentration in the small intestine was higher (P=0.030) in the diseased animals of the control group compared with the healthy and Digestarom(R) fed rabbits. However, no differences were observed in VFA concentration in stomach or caecum contents. The fermentation profi le of diseased animals was characterised by a higher proportion of propionic, i- and n-valeric acids in the caecal contents (P<0.001), and an increased i-butyric acid concentration in the stomach and caecum contents (P=0.014), whereas n-butyric acid was reduced (P<0.033) compared with the healthy or Digestarom(R) fed rabbits. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis indicated a higher caecal bacterial diversity in the control rabbits compared with kits fed Digestarom(R) (P=0.008). The reduced evenness factor (P<0.010) also indicated that the bacterial composition included more dominant species in the Digestarom(R) group. Averages of Fourier coefficients of Siegel modular forms and representation of binary quadratic forms by quadratic forms in four variables
Let be a a negative discriminant and let vary over a set of
representatives of the integral equivalence classes of integral binary
quadratic forms of discriminant . We prove an asymptotic formula for for the average over of the number of representations of by an
integral positive definite quaternary quadratic form and obtain results on
averages of Fourier coefficients of linear combinations of Siegel theta series.
We also find an asymptotic bound from below on the number of binary forms of
fixed discriminant which are represented by a given quaternary form. In
particular, we can show that for growing a positive proportion of the
binary quadratic forms of discriminant is represented by the given

Herschel observations of EXtra-Ordinary Sources: The Terahertz spectrum of Orion KL seen at high spectral resolution
We present the first high spectral resolution observations of Orion KL in the
frequency ranges 1573.4 - 1702.8 GHz (band 6b) and 1788.4 - 1906.8 GHz (band
7b) obtained using the HIFI instrument on board the Herschel Space Observatory.
We characterize the main emission lines found in the spectrum, which primarily
arise from a range of components associated with Orion KL including the hot
core, but also see widespread emission from components associated with
molecular outflows traced by H2O, SO2, and OH. We find that the density of
observed emission lines is significantly diminished in these bands compared to
lower frequency Herschel/HIFI bands.Comment: Accepted for publication in the Herschel HIFI special issue of

Herschel observations of extra-ordinary sources: Detection of Hydrogen Fluoride in absorption towards Orion~KL
We report a detection of the fundamental rotational transition of hydrogen
fluoride in absorption towards Orion KL using Herschel/HIFI. After the removal
of contaminating features associated with common molecules ("weeds"), the HF
spectrum shows a P-Cygni profile, with weak redshifted emission and strong
blue-shifted absorption, associated with the low-velocity molecular outflow. We
derive an estimate of 2.9 x 10^13 cm^-2 for the HF column density responsible
for the broad absorption component. Using our best estimate of the H2 column
density within the low-velocity molecular outflow, we obtain a lower limit of
~1.6 x 10^-10 for the HF abundance relative to hydrogen nuclei, corresponding
to 0.6% of the solar abundance of fluorine. This value is close to that
inferred from previous ISO observations of HF J=2--1 absorption towards Sgr B2,
but is in sharp contrast to the lower limit of 6 x 10^-9 derived by Neufeld et
al. (2010) for cold, foreground clouds on the line of sight towards G10.6-0.4.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, paper to be published in the Herschel special

Lattice QCD at the physical point: Simulation and analysis details
We give details of our precise determination of the light quark masses
m_{ud}=(m_u+m_d)/2 and m_s in 2+1 flavor QCD, with simulated pion masses down
to 120 MeV, at five lattice spacings, and in large volumes. The details concern
the action and algorithm employed, the HMC force with HEX smeared clover
fermions, the choice of the scale setting procedure and of the input masses.
After an overview of the simulation parameters, extensive checks of algorithmic
stability, autocorrelation and (practical) ergodicity are reported. To
corroborate the good scaling properties of our action, explicit tests of the
scaling of hadron masses in N_f=3 QCD are carried out. Details of how we
control finite volume effects through dedicated finite volume scaling runs are
reported. To check consistency with SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory the
behavior of M_\pi^2/m_{ud} and F_\pi as a function of m_{ud} is investigated.
Details of how we use the RI/MOM procedure with a separate continuum limit of
the running of the scalar density R_S(\mu,\mu') are given. This procedure is
shown to reproduce the known value of r_0m_s in quenched QCD. Input from
dispersion theory is used to split our value of m_{ud} into separate values of
m_u and m_d. Finally, our procedure to quantify both systematic and statistical
uncertainties is discussed.Comment: 45 page
Study of 3-prong Hadronic Decays with Charged Kaons
Using a sample of 4.7/fb integrated luminosity accumulated with the CLEO-II
detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR), we have measured the
branching fractions of the tau lepton into and relative to and relative to . The relative branching fractions are: (5.16+-0.20+-0.50)*,
(1.52+-0.14+-0.29)*, (2.54+-0.44+-0.39)* and at 95%
C.L., respectively. Coupled with additional experimental information, we use
our results to extract information on the structure of three-prong tau decays

Herschel observations of extra-ordinary sources: Detecting spiral arm clouds by CH absorption lines
We have observed CH absorption lines ()
against the continuum source Sgr~B2(M) using the \textit{Herschel}/HIFI
instrument. With the high spectral resolution and wide velocity coverage
provided by HIFI, 31 CH absorption features with different radial velocities
and line widths are detected and identified. The narrower line width and lower
column density clouds show `spiral arm' cloud characteristics, while the
absorption component with the broadest line width and highest column density
corresponds to the gas from the Sgr~B2 envelope. The observations show that
each `spiral arm' harbors multiple velocity components, indicating that the
clouds are not uniform and that they have internal structure. This
line-of-sight through almost the entire Galaxy offers unique possibilities to
study the basic chemistry of simple molecules in diffuse clouds, as a variety
of different cloud classes are sampled simultaneously. We find that the linear
relationship between CH and H column densities found at lower by UV
observations does not continue into the range of higher visual extinction.
There, the curve flattens, which probably means that CH is depleted in the

Hadronic Structure in the Decay
We report on a study of the invariant mass spectrum of the hadronic system in
the decay tau- -> pi- pi0 nu_tau. This study was performed with data obtained
with the CLEO II detector operating at the CESR e+ e- collider. We present fits
to phenomenological models in which resonance parameters associated with the
rho(770) and rho(1450) mesons are determined. The pi- pi0 spectral function
inferred from the invariant mass spectrum is compared with data on e+ e- -> pi+
pi- as a test of the Conserved Vector Current theorem. We also discuss the
implications of our data with regard to estimates of the hadronic contribution
to the muon anomalous magnetic moment.Comment: 39 pages postscript, also available through

Observation of Radiative Leptonic Decay of the Tau Lepton
Using 4.68 fb^{-1} of e^+e^- annihilation data collected with the CLEO II
detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) we have studied tau
radiative decays tau -> mu nu nu gamma and tau -> e nu nu gamma. For a 10 MeV
minimum photon energy in the tau rest frame, the branching fraction of
radiative tau decay to a muon or electron is measured to be
(3.61+-0.16+-0.35)*10^{-3} or (1.75+-0.06+-0.17)*10^{-2}, respectively. The
branching fractions are in agreement with the Standard Model theoretical
