An 8 year old male Pinto horse (Equus caballus) had a history of chronic exudative nodular balanopostitis complicated by secondary bacterial infection dating back to 4 years. Severe chronic wasting, oliguria, stranguria, polydipsia and lymphoadenomegaly of bubos femurales and pre-scapular areas were noted. Euthanasia was performed. Later necropsy was performed systematically by the techniques described for horses. Tissue sections were taken for histopathological examination and were processed by conventional methods. Fecal samples were taken for parasitological studies. Gross examination revealed severe chronic wasting, and exudative balanoposthitis with severe chronic secondary bacterial infection. Evidenced hydroperitoneum lymphoadenomegaly of mesenteric nodes were also observed. Histological sections showed severe chronic balanoposthitis, with focal cell proliferation of squamous cell with abundant spin cells acanthosis, pleomorphism, nuclear hyperchromasia, anaplasia, typical mitotic figures, and atypical consistant presence of abundant pearls corneas. In some areas, granulomas were observed with parasite forms of the genus Habronema. Parasitological results were consistent with eggs of Habronema muscae. In conclusion, the clinical history, and macroscopic and histological findings demonstrate a syndrome of chronic balanopostitis and metastatic squamous cell carcinoma.

This title, suggestive of the impacts during the Covid 19 situation in the world, and which have unfortunately been very critical in Colombia, allows us to assume the obligatory overcoming of social, political, and economic tensions; but above all scientific and technological. Initially, this supposes the existence of a capacity of Colombian society to recover its initial state after the disturbance to which it was subjected by the catastrophic pandemic has ceased, and to overcome that previous state of affairs since it was found -and still is find - many local problems poorly resolved, moderately resolved, and many unresolved: that is, an existing social resilience test will have to be redesigned and strengthened - product of the prolonged Colombian social conflict partially overcome by a successful peace process - from local technoscience; As Markus Brunnermeier - German economist and professor of economics at Princeton University - indicates in his book The Resilient Society...The question is not to foresee everything but to be able to react...learn to recover quickly.Bogot

The aim of this study was to describe a case of pathology of the testicle after long-term anabolic steroid treatment in a Thoroughbread horse. Were study an equine Thoroughbread with cryptorchidism from Venezuela, male of 5 years old. With history of lameness chronic and subfertility. Necropsy was performed and samples of testicle tissue were collected. The tissue samples were fixed in formalin and processed by conventional H&E techniques. Additionally, the special staining procedure of Tricromico de Gomory and Blue VonKossa were also carried out. Samples of blood and urine were recollected for toxicological by competitive ELISA. The left testicle was diameter testicle 6cm. and cryptorchidism (testicle right). Macroscopic were observed bilateral fibrosis parenchyma testicle and atrophic. The histological study revealed atrophy of seminiferous tubules and interstitial fibrosis increases in collagen fibres in the lamina propria of seminiferous tubules and testicular interstitium. Lamina propria surrounding atrophic tubules was thickened by an increase in collagen type IV and elastic fibres and by proliferation of bizarre myoid cells. Basal lamina was also thickened but had decreased for collagen type IV. Special stain Tricromico de Gomory (+) showed fibrosis interstitium severed and VonKossa(-) no evidence mineral. Toxicological studies allowed the detection of boldenona and dexamethasone generic in blood and urine samples. To conclude, we detected the presence of pathology of the testicle associated a after long-term anabolic steroid treatment in a Thoroughbred horse

On macroscopic examination post mortem, the right testis was normal and the left apparently markedly reduced in size compatible with the diagnosis of unilateral testicular hypoplasia. However, histopathological findings showed the presence of lesions in both testes. There is a marked peritubular fibrosis with atrophy of seminiferous tubules, loss of the germline, spermatogonial with spheroids, eosinophilic granular material is evident intratubular and interstitial mineral type and giant cell response is observed. The aim of this study was to report one case of testicular hypoplasia, found in slaughterhouse, in a buffalo from a Venezuelan herd

Objective. The goal of the present study was to investigate the effect of IL-12 expressed in plasmid on the Th1 cytokine profile in an experimental HPV16-positive murine tumor model and the association with the IL-12’s antitumor effect. Methods. Mice were injected with BMK-16/myc cells to establish HPV16-positive tumor and then pNGVL3-mIL-12 plasmid; pcDNA3 plasmid or PBS was injected directly into tumor site. The antitumor effect of the treatment was evaluated and the cytokines expression profile in each tumor tissue was analyzed. Results. Treatment with pNGVL3-mIL-12 plasmid had a significant antitumor effect, and a Th2-Th3-type cytokines prolife was detected in the murine tumor model with expression of the cytokines IL-10, IL-4, and TGF-β1. However, after the tumor was treated with three intratumoral injections of plasmid containing IL-12 cDNA, it showed a cytokine profile associated with Th1 with expression of IL-2, IL-12, and IFN-γ cytokines and reduced expression of IL-10, IL-4, and TGF-β1. Conclusions. The treatment with the IL-12 gene in the experimental HPV16-positive tumor model promoted the activation of the cellular immune response via expression of a Th1-type cytokine profile and was associated with the inhibition of tumor growth. Thus, IL-12 treatment represents a novel approach for gene therapy against cervical cancer

The genomic history of the Iberian Peninsula over the past 8000 years

We assembled genome-wide data from 271 ancient Iberians, of whom 176 are from the largely unsampled period after 2000 BCE, thereby providing a high-resolution time transect of the Iberian Peninsula. We document high genetic substructure between northwestern and southeastern hunter-gatherers before the spread of farming. We reveal sporadic contacts between Iberia and North Africa by ~2500 BCE and, by ~2000 BCE, the replacement of 40% of Iberia’s ancestry and nearly 100% of its Y-chromosomes by people with Steppe ancestry. We show that, in the Iron Age, Steppe ancestry had spread not only into Indo-European–speaking regions but also into non-Indo-European–speaking ones, and we reveal that present-day Basques are best described as a typical Iron Age population without the admixture events that later affected the rest of Iberia. Additionally, we document how, beginning at least in the Roman period, the ancestry of the peninsula was transformed by gene flow from North Africa and the eastern Mediterranean.J.M.F., F.J.L.-C., J.I.M., F.X.O., J.D., and M.S.B. were supported by HAR2017-86509-P, HAR2017-87695-P, and SGR2017-11 from the Generalitat de Catalunya, AGAUR agency.
